The Peasant Review

The Peasant is featured in these Guides:

Striding into The Peasant is not for the faint-hearted (or underdressed). Situated on St. John’s Street, no more than five minutes from Clerkenwell and Angel, The Peasant is a beautifully laid-out establishment – and that generally goes double for their professional, business and media clientele.

Firmly located on the bar/restaurant side of the spectrum, this classy joint boasts a good range of European cuisine and a plethora of wines to tickle your fancy. If, however, you are simply looking for a cool beer you may well want to try elsewhere.

Prices are on the slightly expensive side with even the soup of the day coming to £4.20. Mains weigh in at a hefty £10+ with marinated fillet of beef with potato gratin, rosmary & red onion marmalade hitting the top of the scale at £15.

That said, this family-owned business has been running since 1993 and now operates under new management since March last year. Their wine range is impressive and if this is your thing, then you are in the right place.

Upstairs boasts a restaurant holding up to 60 people with a conservatory area for around eight – nice for an intimate gathering.

The music is piped and this is not a venue for a rowdy Saturday night crowd but if you wish to impress your significant other or have a business lunch to host in pleasant surroundings then perhaps The Peasant isn’t such a poor choice after all.

"My Gulascheintopf war perfekt and so was the Weissbier. I was in Kingston Steins. I do have a few suggestions for decor and table. 1. you need a little jar of toothpicks on the table to get meat out from..." Which venue is this?

Hated

"I visited browns alone after work and got convinced to spend an hour in the “VIP” room with Jennifer - which is just a corner of the private dance area - no privacy at all. I essentially paid £500 for..." Which venue is this?
