The Islington Description

The Islington is featured in these Guides:

The Islington is London's most beautiful and intimate café bar venue. Here, you will find a relaxed, cozy atmosphere, nice people and a friendly clientele. The interior draws on it’s Scandinavian cozy design to create an intimate place which is favoured by designers & artists as well as folks who live in the neighbourhood.

A Freehouse with a very large selection of draught world beers, cocktails and whiskies, we also serve the most delicious Pizzas in Islington!

As well as private rooms available for for private parties (which we can cater for), International Profile Touring Musicians perform here regularly. This may become a "secret" show, or just a small little show on a "day off" during the tour. All events are free so just turn up on the evening and you may get a big surprise!

“I made my first visit to The Islington this week, and the overall experience was fabulous. The space -- modern meets cosy. Nice fresh white walls with shabby chic touches on the walls and lovely chesterfield couches. Not too packed with tables. They thought about the details. Great service -- Craft beers is the order of the day here. Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, attentive. The food was good-- the Pizza is the best I've had in Islington. Beautiful presentation I'll definitely go back to The Islington soon. Highly Recommended.”

“LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Perfect venue to upgrade your regular drink scene. Candles light up the room in old fashioned candelabras and beautiful plush maroon curtains divides the back bar area from a private music area (I think I saw a private concert going on the last time I was there). Great beers spirits and cocktails and better than average whiskey collection. It's romantic and sophisticated, yet casual and accommodating. I will definitely be back soon and will continue to plan events here as well!!! Thank you for making our birthday night a great celebration!”

“We booked here for our daughters communion party in feb to be held on the 5th of may. However when we arrived at 11am to drop off the food they were not open ,come 12.30 they were stil not open, however the bar staff were waiting outside for the bar to open so we left the food with them..We arrived for the party only to be told we couldnt have the room. After repeatedly ringing the manager he could not be bothered to return our calls or tell us we couldnt have the room. However he put us in another room which a different party of people had booked for their special day, without informing or asking them.Needless to say the day was ruined. We had to stand like sardines there was not enough tables and chairs.I definitely would not reccommend anyone to have their venue here. And to add to that the prices of the drinks were way above the average you would expect to pay in Islington.”

“My first time at The Islington yesterday. Brooklyn Brewery on draught is a nice touch along with the other Craft brews such as Harviestoun and Goose Island. Bartenders are friendly and informal, Leather couches make me want to curl up with a good book and drink the afternoon away! The best part? This place is only improving as the owners are prepping for a large outdoor seated area come the summer months. If things go according to plan, this place will be competing with the established favourites quicker than you can ask for a Erdinger Weissbrau. A new and welcome addition.”

“A hidden gem of sorts; bang in the centre of Angel whilst still managing to slip away from the hustle and bustle of the high street, The Islington manages to strike a perfect balance between homely comfort and chic. Music is the order of the day; a beautiful stage occupies a corner of the room without invading the place - you can get up close to the performers at the candlelit tables, or stand by the bar, or sit further back whilst enjoying the selection of food on offer. A fine range of wines, drafts and ciders are available at competitive prices. The music usually consists of a solo acoustic performer or stripped back band line ups, which means you can hear yourself think and still enjoy some quality entertainment. I've seen the place packed and you can hear a pin drop. The staff are friendly, attentive and willing to go the extra mile, so it ticks all of the boxes on service. All in all a fantastic place if you're looking for something central and a little different and special without having to spend the earth. Highly recommended.”

“The Islington is a gem and one of my favourite places in Angel. The bar has a very pleasant décor and is very comfortable with a good selection of drinks. I recently had a party at the venue for which the manager kindly reserved an area and we were very well looked after by his friendly staff. Go check it out, it's well worth a visit.”

“My boyfriend and I loved the atmosphere of The Islington immediately when we walked in the first time in January to see if it would be a suitable venue for my birthday bash. Well, it ticked all the right boxes for us. You have created a clean, comfortable and warm environment, where one feels welcome and has time to chill, greeted by friendly and efficient service. The night of my party was fantastic in the running of it, led by Tim and I had many compliments by my guest about the great venue, which I am happy to pass on to you. (Well, I know that you already had some further bookings from some of our guests). We had great fun, good food and wine and the fact that three generations felt welcome and hit the dancefloor, speaks volumes for how successful the evening was. Many thanks to you all.”

“It is a real shame that the poetic description of this bar simply doesn't match the reality. Well situated, with a good range of world beers, with eclectic decor it is; inviting however it is not. Prices fluctuate at this establishment depending on who serves you, or whether they are serving you what was ordered. The service you get is poor. When in Angel go elsewhere because you'll be disappointed.”
