Fact: The UK is Europe's leading BBQ nation (we BBQ even more than the Germans!). Fact: the overall alfresco BBQ and entertaining market is worth more than £7 billion. Fact: London is currently not only in the midst of the hottest period of weather in 2012 (so far, fingers crossed) but we are now officially in National Barbecue Week.

Consider that we are only days away from a double whammy Diamond Jubilee bank holiday weekend and then ask where to find the best beer gardens in London, the best hidden alfresco restaurants in London, the best roof gardens and terraces in London, or the best restaurants along the Thames. London has many amazing alfresco dining spots but as this is National BBQ Week, the best thing to do is find your best local BBQ and settle in for an evening of feasting.

Best BBQ in West London

For National Barbeque Week, The Jam Tree in Chelsea will be serving its famous Jam Street burger alongside pulled pork, marinated swordfish and range of BBQ'd skewers of sambal rump steak, tiger prawns and tandoori chicken. There's also specials such as whole spatchcock Poussin and legs of lamb to look out for. National BBQ week at The Jam Tree culminates with a Diamond Jubilee BBQ featuring beef wellington sandwiches and coronation chicken burgers and "pimms o'clock" 2-4-1 on Pimm's every hour, on the hour.

Also, don't forget to enter the competition which could see you and your mates enjoying a £500 day out at The Jam Tree. And here's what you can look forward to.

Best BBQ in Central London

The Courtyard at 51 (pictured above) in Westminster will be firing up its tranquil summer BBQ, stocked with the finest grills, plus an exotic range of flavoured shisha pipes. The á la carte BBQ lunch and dinner menu includes light and exotic dishes such as Seekh kebab wraps, Djaj Shaw (chicken marinated in onions, garlic and saffron), and Lokoz Meshwi (fillet of seabass with almond chermoula). The Courtyard at 51 also offers alfresco Afternoon Tea and, for four nights only during the summer months, live opera with alfresco dining.

Best BBQ in North London

The 19th century pub, The Garden Gate in Hampstead, not only offers five real ales on draught and a dog-friendly policy for Hampstead Heath walkers, but it is celebrating National BBQ Week with the return of its fully functioning garden. The Garden Gate is hosting the fabulous slow cooked hog roast this weekend (the first Friday of every month with live music in the garden) with regular BBQs starting next weekend on Saturdays and Sundays. The menu for what is undoubtely north London's most beautiful beer garden includes steak in ciabatta, foil-baked fish, chicken breast.

Best BBQ in South London

The Ship, Wandsworth's famous grill, fired up in March and will be kept running throughout the summer all the way through to October. Every day between 12pm and 10pm you can get stuck into their juicy 100% beef burgers, huge racks of sizzling Coca-Cola pork ribs and succulent sirloin steaks. The Ship is situated right next to Wandsworth Bridge with a vast beer garden and unrivalled views of the Thames, so expect a truly unique experience, particularly on Sundays when the decking is packed from wall to wall with happy revellers and live evening music kicks in. The Ship is south London's most popular summertime pub, and their fantastic barbecue is the main reason why so many people flock there.

Best BBQ in East London

London's most anticipated alfresco grill, A Grelha at The Gun will bring an authentic taste of the Algarve to the Docklands when it re-opens for the summer on Thursday 31st May. Choose your catch of fresh fish (including whole sea bass, dourado or Portuguese sardines in sea salt) then nibble on salt cod croquettes with aioli whilst it chars to perfection on the huge charcoal barbeque. For the carnivores, the hanging skewer of marinated lamb espetada or spicy chicken piri piri is sure to hit the spot. Weather permitting, opening hours Wednesday-Friday are 6pm-10pm; Saturday noon-10pm; and Sunday noon-9pm.
