This year's Slow Food UK Week starts in a few days (June 18th - 24th) with a schedule of events to encourage Londoners to think differently about food, with many restaurant menus promoting the cause as well. Provenance, nutrition, sustainability, and locally sourcing are all part of the agenda, without the loss of great taste.

Slow Food UK developed the Chef Alliance in September 2011 in recognition of those chefs who share the vision to champion small scale producers and good quality local and sustainable produce. There are currently 53 leading chefs in England, Scotland and Wales who are members of the Alliance.

Top London chefs Francesco Mazzei (pictured above) of L'Anima Italian restaurant in the City of London, Richard Corrigan of Corrigan's Mayfair restaurant, Angela Hartnett of Murano restaurant in Mayfair, Giorgio Locatelli of Italian restaurant Locanda Locatelli in Marylebone, Cyrus Todiwala of Cafe Spice Namaste Indian restaurant in the City of London, Anna Hansen of The Modern Pantry in Clerkenwell, and double Michelin Star chef Marcus Wareing of The Berkeley and The Gilbert Scott are all Slow Food UK Chef Alliance members and many will be offering special Slow Food UK menus throughout the week.

Here are some of the events taking place during Slow Food UK Week.

Tuesday 19th June, 6pm @ Rivington Grill, Shoreditch: 2062

Food artist Caroline Hobkinson brings “2062", a spectacle of the feast in performance and social commentary, to Rivington Grill, helping to make sense of our world through the way we eat. She will be offering an experience that will make us think about the ritual of eating food, its traditions, and how we prepare it. Click here for tickets

Wednesday 29th June, 6pm @ Commercial Street near Spitalfields: Canape Crawl

The first-ever canapé crawl will begin at Hawksmoor and takes in some of the City's best restaurants and food vans including Alessandro Grano's Androuet cheese shop, Café Spice Namaste and Street Food. At each stop you'll be able to enjoy a drink and some wonderful canapés created using Britain's artisan foods, and ‘crawlers' will meet the Chef Patron at each establishment. Click here for tickets

Thursday 21st June @ L'Anima Italian restaurant: Slow Food Menu

As one of the biggest UK supporters of the Slow Food movement, Francesco Mazzei of L'Anima in the heart of the City of London will be showing how it's done with a deft and contemporary Italian touch to bring out the best of British produce.

A special trio of Slow Food UK themed gelati have been created using Ark of Taste Forgotten Foods. Sample the flavours by ‘donating what you can'. All proceeds go towards Slow Food UK's charitable education work.

Thursday 21st June, 6.30pm, @ Slow Food UK, 6 Neal's Yard, Covent Garden, WC2H 9DP: Highland Park whisky tasting

One of Highland Park's whisky experts will take an audience on a journey through different Highland Park expressions. Click here for tickets

Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th June @ Taste of London: The Slow Food UK Secret Garden

The Slow Food UK Ark of Taste Wheel will be ready for a spin at this year's Taste of London event in Regent's Park. Set the wheel rolling and take a flavour trip to Lyth Valley for a taste of damsons or on a culinary journey to Somerset with artisan Cheddar.
