December 31st 2011: This New Year's Eve, Londoners and foreign guests alike will be booking themselves a night at a London bar and restaurant in the hope that it will be one to remember.
Food, Champagne, music, and a healthy gathering of friends always helps to create the perfect NYE party, but there's one element not everyone seems to remember: fireworks. This is usually because fireworks are considered dangerous when set alight indoors, so most restaurants and bars in London aren't able to provide this NYE function.
The solution: book a table at a restaurant that offers panoramic views across the city. Whether you're looking to party the night away in to the early hours, or just enjoy an intimate meal with loved ones, here are some of London's top firework-viewing restaurants:
Central London & River Thames
This luxury yacht restaurant, built in the 1920s, has three decks, an al fresco terrace, a modern European menu and stunning views of the City and Westminster skyline. This New Year you can experience a fantastic 8-course dinner including half a bottle of wines (selected by the sommelier), a glass of Champagne, and a disco until 2am, all for £195pp. Naturally, being a floating restaurant on the Thames, there will be plenty of top deck opportunity to view London's many river firework displays. A few remaining spots are still available so book your NYE using the booking form to the right.
OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar & Brasserie
This multi-purpose venue provides a stunning location to celebrate the most glittering night of the year. Offering style, glamour, heart stopping views of St Paul's and the Thames with the lights of the embankment twinkling like strings of diamonds. London will be at your feet, dressed in her best.
East London & River Thames
Le Pont De La Tour
This waterfront restaurant is renowned for its setting, modern French food and vast wine list. Oh, and that view. Set in the historical Butlers Wharf area, the vista across Tower Bridge is phenomenal. This New Year's Eve you can snap up 4-courses, Champagne, fireworks AND a boat ride, all for £275 using the booking form to the right. There are more affordable options available (minus the boat); to find these follow this link.
Diners in the City of London can enjoy an easterly view over the gardens, on to the skyline as this classy rooftop Conran restaurant is an ideal location to enjoy NYE fireworks displays across East London. There will be two beautiful menus designed by head chef Mikko with the first sitting at 6pm and the second from 8:30pm onwards.
Fluid London critic, Faye Armstrong, visited this City of London Italian restaurant recently and afterwards confessed: “Refettorio knows how to please, and I know I like Refettorio". Another Fluid London critic, Ben Brill, also visited the restaurant recently and confessed: “What's not to like?" It seems almost a formality, therefore, to mention that this NYE you can enjoy a pre-drink, half a bottle of wine, 4 delicious courses, and views of the fireworks on the Thames for only £109. Use the booking form to the right before it's too late (and before Faye and Ben get there before you)!
West London & River Thames
Babylon at the Roof Gardens
With views spanning from Canary Wharf in the east, all the way round to Richmond Park in the south-west; Babylon at the Roof Gardens offers the perfect platform from which to view displays in Clapham Common, Richmond Park and other private displays. There will also be a glorious fireworks display taking place from the Spanish Garden on the 6th floor, 100ft above London.
An uninterrupted, breathtaking, 360° view of London, stretching for miles, is just one of many unique features to be found at Altitude London. What's more, New Years Eve in the Sky will take place in the Sky Bar, one of London's newest and most exclusive ‘bars in the sky'. Situated at the top of the iconic Millbank Tower, the Sky Bar benefits from sensational panoramic views across the city. The perfect place from which to view the Mayor's fireworks display.
