Gin has made a huge comeback over the last few years and this summer, London's bars and restaurants have jumped onto the Gin bandwagon in their droves. No longer seen simply as Pat Butcher's habitual tipple, Gin has become a stylish drink du jour in London with an abundance of Gin themed cocktails, afternoon teas, masterclasses and much more. We've taken a good look at London's burgeoning Gin scene to see what's out there and here are some of the Gintastic things we've found.
Does a Gin & Tonic Tasting Experience and Overnight Stay in a Luxury London Hotel sound like your idea of heaven? If the answer is yes, then you simply must check out the incredible Gin & Tonic Experience at The Chesterfield Hotel in Mayfair which includes an overnight stay in a luxuriously appointed suite, a full English breakfast and a premium Gin & Tonic experience for two where the resident mixologist provides the opportunity to sample a variety of Gins and Tonic waters. The perfect present for that special Gin obsessed person perhaps?
There's Nothing Quite Like a Gin Garden
We love a good drink al fresco in the summertime and there's nothing better than enjoying a few with your mates in one of London's al fresco bars and restaurants. Cinnamon Kitchen, Vivek Singh's ultra-cool Indian restaurant in the City has put a Gin spin on al fresco drinking this summer with their amazing Bombay Sapphire Gin Garden. Launched back in June, it features a bespoke Gin Bar, luxury gazebos and an outdoor screen showing the summer's best sporting events.
The fabulous summer terrace at St Martin's Lane has been created in partnership with premium gin Tanqueray No. TEN. Divided into two elements, representing the hotel's interior outlets, one part echoes The Den serving Gin & Tonic Afternoon Tea that will satisfy and surprise the most discerning of the tipple's enthusiasts whilst the other will reflect Asia de Cuba providing a selection of exclusive gin pairings.
Over in Battersea, The Four Thieves pub features its very own Gin Yard, a delightful covered terrace serving up 45 different types of gin behind the bar and an array of botanicals and tonics to accompany whilst The Gun in Docklands has transformed its riverside garden into a “Gin Garden" complete with lazy lawn, garden games, picnic baskets and plenty of gin. Open to the public, (weather permitting) Thursdays – Fridays (4pm-11pm) and Weekends (all-day).
Gin & Tonic Pop-Up
Fever Tree (masters of mixers) have teamed up with the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel to offer their ‘Ultimate Gin & Tonic Summer Bar' pop-up. Located in the grand entrance of the hotel, discover new flavours and classic favourites and enjoy the live music backdrop. Open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm-10pm, from 8th June until 26th August.
Mayfair's Very Own Gin
Nestled in a pretty Mayfair courtyard, Hush has always been a popular choice for those in the know. There's even more reason to discover this tucked away bar and restaurant now with Bar Director Pedro Solorzano's very own London distilled gin. Flavours of jasmine lotus, tonic beans and lavender have proved to be a huge hit amongst London's lovers of gin and their incredible Gin & Jam Afternoon Tea is yet another reason to check the place out.
Incredible Gin Collections
The Cavalry Bar at The Rubens at the Palace in Victoria boasts a collection of 30 fabulous gins including Martin Millers, Elephant Gin and City of London Dry Gin. We love their signature gin based cocktail the “Rubens at the Palace Gin" with notes of coriander, cardamom, pink pepper and a very British Yorkshire Tea. Rivington Grill in both Shoreditch and Greenwich go one better and house a very respectable collection of 200 types of gin whilst Graphic in Soho offers a choice of 180 premium and rare gins and boast their very own “Juniper Club" with opportunities for tasting sessions and the chance to question the gin-bassadors on what makes a great gin. Holborn Dining Room wins the award for London's largest collection of gin though, with a bar filled with over 400 different types of gin to discover as well as 27 different types of tonic too. Spoilt for choice you'll most certainly be!
