The Postbox Bistro 195 Waldegrave Road, Middlesex, London, TW11 8LX (Map)

Food fantastic - especially the desserts - Cheese trolly very smelly, but according to the men 'out of this world' - restaurant hard to find with unimpressive facade. Jane More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

Dominique's In Hampstead Heath, Hampstead (Restaurant)
“I'm a Dominique's fan, we go for Saturday or Sunday brunch. The food is fine and reasonably priced, you can have full English, smoked salmon and scrambled, or just a very large amond croissant. There's also the usual baked spuds, sandwiches, pasta etc all nicely prepared. It's prettily decorated, light and airy, possible to sit out front and watch the dog/child walkers go to and from the Heath. And really nice, friendly people running it. I used to be a Polly's (up the road) person, but I've switched.”

Kwai Chi Asiatic Kitchen & Bar, Maida Vale & St Johns Wood (Bar / Restaurant)
“Kwai Chi is a lovely restaurant. Great tasting food, good service and very, very reasonably priced. We will be returning with some frequency as it is so good and the type of restaurant we'd like to see more frequently in this area of town.”

“Had a great meal at Loco Mensa last week. Proper Italian cuisine, not the chain stuff. Pasta with meatballs was excellent and my wife had the sea bass. Good cooking!”

“Best jukebox in the whole of London - quality, quality tunes with a good selection of ales. No wonder the celebs are starting to come here. Wish they would stay away though - may make it too cool if you know what i mean....”

The Dog and Fox, Wimbledon (Bar)
“The Dog and Fox has been re-rubbished. If you want an 'All Bar One' type experience, go to All Bar One, they do it better than this cheap imitation. Young's have taken a good traditional pub with long history and ripped the heart out of it. It's noisy and full of screaming kids.”

06 St Chad's Place, Kings Cross (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“I had a great business lunch at St Chads, the atmosphere was buzzy and the service was firendly and relaxed. The interior of this small warehouse is quite cool I heard that it's owned by a firm of architects nearby. Great food in Kings Cross I highly recommend it.”

Shaw's Booksellers, City of London (Bar)
“In case you're confused this isn't a bookshop, it used to be, but now Shaw's Booksellers offers pints and food instead of books - much better i say, as you can still read a book if you want but with a pint in your hand as well.”

Grapes, Canary Wharf (Bar)
“For all you literary boths out there, The Grapes played a leading role in Charles Dickens's novel 'Our Mutual Friend' although in the book he called it the Six Jolly Fellowship Porters. Views on the Thames are great and seafood is delicious.”

The Edgar Wallace, City of London (Bar)
“This pub is named after the mysterious author - Edgar Wallace - who had more books made into films than any other 20th century writer. It was also a meeting place for dictionary inventor Dr Samuel Johnson. Enough of the history lesson, the pub has quality ales and not bad pub fodder either.”

William IV, Ladbroke Grove & Kensal (Bar / Restaurant)
“Quality place for a night out! I was at William IV last weekend and the place was rocking. The dj (some fit blond) had the place bumping and grinding and there was plenty of eye candy to keep the lads occupied! Service was great - one of the bartenders was educating me on the merits of their extensive tequila selection. Highly recommended.”

If you like good house and electro grooves played to perfection with an EDGE, go to Revolution... There is a top vibe in there once it gets going from 10pm onwards. Good bar team..polite and smile a an 89 vibe!”

The Havelock Tavern, Hammersmith (Bar)
“This is my favourite pub in all the world. The food is really seriously good for a pub. It is worth the extra that you do pay. They nearly always have mussels on the menu (either to start or for a main), which I share as a starter nearly every time I go. Yes, the Havelock does get busy. What the others may have neglected to point out, is that it's busy because everyone who knows it thinks it's that good. I have never had to wait more than five minutes to get a table. But don't all come at once or that'll change.”

Thirst, Soho (Bar)
“Perfect place for afterwork drinks, or later in the evening. The cocktails are superbly made, by some of the friendliest, most attentive bar staff I've encountered in London. Thirst is easily one of my top bars in London.”

The Cut Bar & Restaurant, Waterloo (Bar / Restaurant)
“On the strength of the other reviews myself and a couple of mates chose The Cut Bar and Restaurant for a New Year catch-up and started the evening relatively early to avoid the crowds of drinkers that would inevitably descend on the place on a Saturday night. It IS an impressive space - bars on ground and mezzanine levels, high ceilings, big windows, lots of wood, plenty of trendy-looking furniture, so far so good. We headed upstairs so we could survey the masses of eclectic-looking drinkers and settled down with bottles of Corona (only bottled beer on offer, draft beer only available downstairs). 8pm, Saturday night and the place was virtually empty. We moved downstairs to soak up what little atmosphere radiated from the dozen or so other drinkers and took an Ikea-wobbly table complete with wobbly chairs. At this point it may be worth reminding you that this is a theatre bar. That explains the popcorn machine which, despite its compact size, managed to fill half the downstairs bar with the smell of popcorn. We had thought of having some food, a handful of the other punters were eating, but the popcorn ruined our appetite. At 8.30 the place was absolutely heaving. It was unbelievable. Kids everywhere. Jumping on the trendy furniture, fighting over the popcorn, within 5 minutes we were completely surrounded and could barely hear ourselves think. As I said, this is a theatre bar. And if you're looking for atmosphere it may be worth checking the production and when”

“The best chill out bar in London south of the river. The staff are very pleasant, willing and pleased to serve. The wine, beer and food is more than decent. Yes this is the place to be.”
