“This place was so dire. It tok forever to receive our first drinks and then when our snacks arrived (lamb kofta) it was so raw we had to send them back. Then the waitress took away our drinks before we were finished. Our experience, combined with the complaints coming from the surrounding tables, means I will never go back. ”

“The best pub in Holborn by a mile! A real jem of a place. Tucked behind Holborn tube station the Ship Tavern was like a breath of fresh air after a hard slog at the office. I also went there for lunch and had probably the best burger I have tasted to date. Not only that to top it all the service was friendly! (something which is hard to find these days) I should also point out I was very impressed with the music, not your usual juke box rubbish. Top marks from me and well worth a visit.”

“Just like to put Ron straight. At Thirst we never over fill the venue and suggesting we do implies we break the law and put our customers safety at risk. Thirst does not have fights. To busy and to loud seems to suggest Ron may in fact be too old. Stay in the suburbs and put your feet up! Look forward to seeing all our happy customers soon. Al Thompson”

“I had my birthday party at Mishmash last weekend and had the best time! We reserved an area and all my friends were put on the guestlist so the late-comers got in no problem. This place is great if you want to have a good old party. The funky wallpaper, funky staff, delicious coocktails and classic party music make this the ulitmate place for weekend fun!”

The Church, Brixton (Bar / Club)
“The church is a really horrible place and I'd highly recommend that you stay away. I went with a group of friends to say goodbye to a friend who was returning to Australia and we've never had a worse afternoon out - ever. The drinks system when you can only buy three cans at once, which you then have to carry round in a plastic bag, is ridiculous. The venue was filthy and hard to get to. The music was rubbish. The 'entertainment' was a scrubby old stripper who got so graphic we were all embarrassed and a fat compère shouting 'we want tits' on stage. The crowd is made up of a load of louts trying to grope you and vomiting over themselves. If you view this kind of thing as good unpretentious fun and a real laugh then by all means go - if you want anything more from your afternoon than the lowest, nastiest, misogynistic setup imaginable, then stay the hell away.”

“I know I'm going to get shouted down like poor Williams further down the page, but here goes anyway. On the occasion that I went to the Church, there were some medics from St Guy's there raising some cash for the hospital. They got up on the stage and were generally having a good time, joining in the drinking games and raising money for a good cause. One of the female medics was asked to remove her top by the compère, and when she refused she was loudly booed by the whole crowd. That's right, they booed a doctor who was raising money for charity because she refused to flash them. So if spending time with the fine specimens of humanity who made up the crowd sounds good to you then by all means go, but don't say you weren't warned.”

“What can I say? We first encountered this place more than 15 years ago. We were looking for some decent food at a reasonable price. A glance at the menu promised both and we weren't disappointed! From smoked salmon in a cheesy cream sauce over pasta to trota Cleopatra and heaven knows what else over three or four visits in '91, plus a repeat visit in '97, the thought of this place, even with its somewhat quirky atmosphere, still makes me salivate in anticipation!”

“Arrived at Sunday afternoon thinking food finished, oh no. What a delightful meal we had. Poached smoked haddock, spinach with garlic and chillies, topped off with a boiled egg, truly tasty. Me lady had cous cous with grilled aubergine, that too was a taste sensation. A couple of Leffe's later ding dong. I can't fault this place.”

“Went there last night (24/2/2006). Quite nice inside but pretty dead about 9pm. Draft beer is available but it's only Kronenberg. £3.30 is just about palatable. But charging £5.50 for a bicardi and coke is ridiculous. Tasted like a single as well. The place we were at before we got there was charging £2.50 for A DOUBLE! Maybe it picks up later but i wont be going back until they price their drinks sensibly (which will never happen unfortunately).”

“A cosy Dutch / Belgium Bar / Cafe with a great atmosphere. The staff are kind and understanding of the mildly inebriated. Their beer menu has a good range with a drink for everyone’s tastes, and though it's not the most extensive in the area. You'd probably pass out long before you could work your way through it (especially if you start with a bottle Scaldis). The food is also top notch; I’d definitely recommend a side order of the double Dutch fries. There is a major down side though; there's a waiter service. This means you aren't buying drinks individually but putting drinks on a tab all night. So watch your orders or, despite the prices being quite reasonable, you will find your bank balance in a sorry state in the morning.”

“The bar staff here need to learn manners. A group of us went along for a few quiet drinks after work only to be abused by unhappy staff who have serious attitude problems. Colourful language was used by the staff which was completetly out of order. Until management realise their staff need to lessons in hospitality I would steer clear of this place!”

“Definitely not a place for the more classy, fussy type, it looks like a hole in the wall and most of the regulars are lucky if they still have all their teeth. But the snakebite's extremely good and the people are v. friendly. I love it! Great bands, A nice dog up on the roof and has been known to have a free barbeque in the summer. FREE!”

“If you're fourteen, you'll love it. There's a safe bouncer downstairs who'll let you sneak in a six pack of strongbow which you can consume daintily in the bogs. It's a complete shithole, all the girls are off their faces and wearing nothing but a bra and fishnets. If you're pissed, you'll enjoy the music. Not much chance of a pull, and you're more than likely to bump into someone who you didn't want to see. Now and again they'll play a good punk tune. It doesnt usually get more diverse than sometihng like TimeBomb by Rancid though. You'll embarrass yourself by getting really drunk and deciding you actually DO like that Linkin park song afterall. People will give you their fags. Stuff gets nicked. I'm going there tomorrow night”
