Recent bar & restaurant customer reviews in London

Moro 34/36 Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell, London, EC1R 4QE (Map)

This is among my favorite restaurants in the world. Consistently innovative, decidedly offbeat, and with some of the best sourced ingredients in London. Though it still seems odd to say that London could... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“I agree wholeheartedly with the previous comments - a pub which manages to be cool without trying too hard. Sadly this is becoming increasingly uncommon in Islington. Good music, good food, a fun quiz night AND a pool table to boot! Let's hope that they remain chilled out as the popularity of the Mucky Pup grows.”

“If you love karaoke then this is one of the only place in london that does it. The problem is I think that thats why its so bad. They know that they can get people in. But after paying nearly £90 for one hour for 12 people then been told we all have to order one drink each and then being frequently pested to order the right amount of drinks. You may aswell rent/buy a karaoke machine it would be a much better alternative. The staff are so so rude its unbelievable”

“The bar has been completely redecorated returning it to its former glory. Customers on the whole are locals, and a decidedly friendly bunch, as is the management and staff. High numbers of regulars particularly friday and saturday nights when the bar is open til 1am. Both bar and food prices are expensive for the area, but the general atmosphere is some consolation for this.”

“Simon D - you are having a laugh! Do you work here or something? I'll agree with you about the girls, but the staff were slow as hell, the food was crap, and the drinks were nothing a bar of that size shouldn't have.”

“Having received a recommendation from a friend, I recently decided to celebrate my 25th birthday at Henry J beans in Chelsea. Luckily the site didn't disappoint. I was fortunate that we were blessed by rare fantastic weather, which gave us the opportunity to wine and dine in their renowned huge beer garden. With the attractive water fountain centred in the garden and a pleasant mix of people, (the ladies really were the cream of the crop, but hey that’s Kings Road for you), we felt that there was no real need to move on any where else. Branded as a fancy American restaurant and bar, reflected in the artwork advertisements displayed in the bar, it wasn’t surprising that the menu consisted of hamburgers and steaks. The ordering system proved to be surprisingly speedy considering it was a busy day. The food was good on the whole (even the salads), but I personally would have preferred juicy fat chips rather than fries. What really makes Henry J Beans better than the average bar is the range of drinks on offer to suit different tastes and the friendly staff. From wines to lager to cocktails, the quality was top notch, although slightly pricey. The music consisted of a mix from funky house to r’n’b, and although there was no real designated dance floor, there was still some shaking sugar sweeties doing what they do best. The only disappointment was the beer garden having to close at 10.00pm, but you can’t have everything. If you ever happen to find yourself in Kings Road feeling hungry or thirsty, I strongly recommend Henry J Beans. Good food, great drinks and a warm atmosphere. ”

“The front room's friendly with good music, cabaret and fun live acts. Even though I'm not gay I got dragged in on a friday night with some gay friends and found it quite a good laugh. The back room's a different story altogether and I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone who isn't gay. It has a no-nonesense cruisey atmosphere, it's almost exclusively male and very full-on and I found some of the leather guys quite scary! Maybe it's just like that on Fridays.”

“I really like this pub! i often go there in the summer and the main good thing is possibly it's location and it's staff. nobody is fussy if you take your drink outside and sit on the pavement. the crowd is a mixture of youngsters, students, footie lovers and locals. there is also a thai restaurant on the second floor and you can order the food also at the pub downstairs. i only tried the prawn crackers so i wouldn't be able to tell you whether the food is good or bad. if you live around there it's definitely a must visit.”

“ Picked this restaurant out of the blue on a visit to London for a pre-theatre dinner. Menu was varied but we decided that the theatre set menu at £9.95 for two courses and £12.50 for three courses woould suit us best as we had limited time. The Lamb was cooked to perfection and had such a lovely flavour. This was followed by a near perfect warmed Pecan Chocolate Brownie with Chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Altogether, a great experience, soon to be repreated I hope!”

“I have been three times, last night was the worst of a bad bunch. The menu changes by the minute, but at least five groups of people weren't told that their (paid for) meal was no longer available until everyone else at the table was receiving their main courses. Dreadful. After waiting an hour for the main course (mussels) not to arrive I was given the option of a partial refund or cold soup. Dreadful. No matter how good the food might be when it is available it could not make up for such an appalling experience. Avoid this place.”

“I'm not sure when Steve wrote his review but I suggest he returns! Expensive? I think not! With draught beer from £2 you can't really complain. I've not eaten there for a while but I've had the fries and they complement the beer superbly. It's classified on here as a 'bar & nightclub' but I was say it's more a bog standard old fasshioned (almost) pub. Not posey or pretentious, just somewhere to meet with friends and actually be able to hear what they are saying to you. I'm pretty sure they accept cards over the bar now too. Maybe not somewhere you'd go for a special night out but a good spot to meet up with people after work and chill out over a beer or three and bowls of fries!”
