I took my wife and daughter to celebrate our 26yrs of marriage. Wife is vegetarian. The food was excellent and I just could not let go of the lamb chops starter. It was finger licking good. The king Prawn... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“This is an historic pub (part of the building, anyway), which should be a bit of a treasure. We have been going there for years, but I have to say that the current state of the toilets is beyond belief: they look clean, but the smell knocks your socks off! Also, the last time we went (on Sunday 22nd Feb 2009) the end bar was being used by a group who were barring the entrance from the street by putting their chairs in front of it and being abusive to people who tried to enter: we told the staff but they did nothing to stop this. The staff here work hard and are pleasant: they need better management here, and cleaners who know how to clean a toilet properly!”

“What a shame the superb makeover didn't extend to the food. My visit last week was a huge disappointment. My pate starter was almost frozen while the main was dry and overcooked. My partner had more success with the steak which was very good, though nearly 20 quid. Other diners agreed that even the relatively simple dishes like the sunday roast were not great - not bad but just not the quality you'd expect for the price. There are plenty of nearby restaurants where you can get much better food and pay the same or less . The staff are largely friendly and the bar seemed like the kind of place i'd pop back to for a pint or two - I'll just make sure to eat elsewhere first. Three more niggles, if you're printing dated, daily menus why include 'specials' which aren't available. Flabby frozen chips are rarely 'hand cut'. Finally, if you're thinking of booking please note the rather strange policy of not accepting reservations between 1pm and 3pm on sunday- that's lunchtime for most of us.”

The Plough, Barnes & Sheen (Bar / Restaurant / Hotel)
“The Plough has always been our destination of choice for a friendly relaxed atmosphere and a good choice of food. Recently it has been tastefully refurbished and gastro-pubbed. But Sadly it has lost much of its unique atmosphere. Under new management it seems to have also lost its way and gone from an always full and happy venue summer and winter, to on the occasions we have visited to a rather sad ghost of its former self. We love this pub and have tried to support its reincarnation. On a recent visit [week day and not half term], we waited three quarters of an hour for a lunchtime sandwich, a bowl of luke-warm soup and some soggy chips. No-one came to explain the delay and when asked said there was one chef on and orders had built up, concern appeared to us minimal to say the least. Regretfully as this is not the first time we have had problems it may have been our last visit. PLUS POINTS dogs and children are welcomed, a good selection of beers and there are daily newspapers. We still believe the owners/management have underlying good intentions, but need to get it right, right now. In the current recession the Plough is a would-be gold mine, so whoever owns it needs to get mining. Janet Street-Porter recently remarked that venues need to listen to what customers want and give to them. Can't agree more.”

Club 49, Soho (Bar / Club)
“Upon entering the club I was very impressed, the music and atmosphere was brilliant. The drinks were slightly expensive but worth every penny, well made and well presented. However some of the staff, bouncers especially, were very unpleasant when I needed their help and for that reason I will not be returning to this club.”

Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecote, Marylebone (Restaurant)
“If I could score minus 10 out of 5 then I would for this disgraceful restaurant. I can safely say this is the worst experience I have ever had of customer service in a restaurant. The waitress was sullen with a moody pout. When we asked if one steak could be cooked well done the answer was ‘no’ without any attempt to elaborate or explain the logic. When we asked for butter to eat with our bread the answer was ‘we don’t do butter’. So much for the concept of the customer always being right and ordering food they actually want to eat. This is the most pretentious and self-absorbed place I have ever eaten in where the chef and staff choose to follow a pathetic line that the French only cook their steak medium or rare when in France itself they will happily cook a steak anyway you would like it. In fact this restaurant does a disservice to the French. There is no menu and no choice of food you are just told what to eat. Do not go here no matter what people tell you!”

“Not many places you go to inspire like Lounge Lover. Its always full lovely furniture with the kind of people who appreciate it. The atmosphere is great and lively. Its certainly a class above the rest and the drinks and service are up there with the best. In this credit crunch i go out less but i chose special places like Lounge Lover to spend my money. Why spend it at those ghastly bars when you soak up the glamour here.”

The Rose & Crown, Crouch End (Bar / Restaurant)
“Three of us popped to the Rose & Crown for Sunday lunch and only one of us left satisfied. The choice for non-meat eaters was awful, the only vegetarian main resembled a starter (literally six bits of pasta with 3 cherry tomatoes cut in half), the service was poor and the manner in which the venue has been refurbished isn't particularly appealing. All in all, no great value for money as we ended up paying £70 for a rather forgettable meal with no wine or starters.”

“Attentive service - the owner/manager on hand throughout the evening. Larger than average portions of food. Interesting dishes, not the run-of-the-mill type of food. Other customers said they were local regulars who returned because of the quality.”

Christopher's, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“Took advantage of the great pre-theatre offer and ate at Christophers for the first time. The food was delicious and fantastic value for money. We were very impressed by the service, which was always one step ahead - our glasses were never empty and toothpicks came just as I was about to ask! The atmosphere is great and despite the restaurant having so many windows and such high ceilings it was comfortably warm. I will definitely be returning and would not hesitate to recommend this place.”

Kink, Angel & Islington (Bar / Club)
“Last rater obviously wasn't there last friday night!! Place was busy and had a great atmosphere, all kinds of people and a really nice vibe. Dj was brilliant but he had a bit of a job on his hands with requests all night! lol A round of 3 double vodkas and lemonade and 2 beers comes to £21. We were very surprised thats cheap for a decent bar around here. Ive been in before and it was quite empty but still had a nice atmosphere and the barmen are really friendly and its gorgeous inside so still worth the visit.”
