This is mixed. The best thing here are the Staff and the cocktails - all excellent although don't even think about eating here - luke warm and tastless food. The website & pics conjure thoughts of an... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“Pretentious, over priced, rude staff and once inside just a very average club you could find anywhere. £25 to get in, £22.60 for 2 x bacardi & cokes and they weren't even doubles. Total rubbish, spend your money somewhere its appreciated.”

“Advice to people considering this place- no no no! Went here after watching a film at the odion next door. Waited half an hour for our food (and it wasnt that busy), had to ask several times for it. They clearly had forgotten about us but didnt even get an apology. And waitress v rude!! Food wasn't great either.”

Crazy Bear, Fitzrovia (Bar / Restaurant)
“Visited on Sat 08/03/09. A mixed and disappointed experience. We were a group of 12 celebrating a birthday. They were very accommodating in providing us a table. The decor is fantastic. The drinks were good, although for the same price we've had better at numerous venues. The waitress we had was the real downfall. The service was slow and we had to chase them on drinks after waiting 15-20 mins after the order was taken. This resulted in one drink being brought over twice. The waitress then decided to have a go at us for their mistake. After which we received no service at all. When we'd had enough and wanted the bill she seemed to intentionally ignore our looks and gestures and even when I walked over to speak to her she turned and walked away and I had to ask another waiter to bring the bill. Definitely not one that I'll go back to.”

Bombay Spice, Wood Green & Palmers Green (Restaurant)
“I am really surprised by the previous review but each to their own. Perhaps you shouldnt come if you want a standard takeaway rather than a bit of a meal out treat, but at least it means that I will be able to get a table! This restaurant absolutely head and shoulders above your normal local and its amazing to find it in Palmers Green. If it were more central it would be getting rave reviews. The starters are particularly wonderful, dosas, crunchy things in yoghurt. The service is good. They could probably improve the decor I will admit - its all a bit beige and brown but dont let that put you off. Music is an interest of the owners, so is quite interesting too. Anyway, up to you.....”

Lyric Tavern, Soho (Bar)
“I have given 5 stars to all categories as I was fortunate to work as a barman at the Lyric in 1967/68 - best era to be in London. I lived on the premises which was run by the Hitchen family. Great roast dinners every day and met alot of the cast performing at the nearby theatres. Back then, the Windmill Cinema (which was opposite) was screening In The Heat of the Night and my wife of 37 years was the cashier there. We didn't meet though until early 1969. I must add I was on a working holiday in the UK and so was my wife and have been back to London 4 times since departing there in 1973 for Sydney. Things have changed quite alot, but still love the city and the people. Both our daughters worked in London and visited this great little pub, but I am sure they didn't experience the atmosphere that I did back in the great era of Swinging London.”

“Lovely decor - the restaurant is fabulous with huge chandeleirs and understated elegance. We loved the food too in the bar area and the service from the waiter was faultless. A very enjoyable night out and great to have a stylish gastro pub in Clapham South.”

“Went to East Village on a Friday night for food and a boogie. Ate some lovely tapas (great for lining the stomach!) and then went downstairs for some excellent house music. The staff were really friendly and although the drinks weren't cheap they did the trick! After looking at the great lineup for March we definitely plan to go again!”

“I took my wife and daughter to celebrate our 26yrs of marriage. Wife is vegetarian. The food was excellent and I just could not let go of the lamb chops starter. It was finger licking good. The king Prawn Karahi was also brilliant. For dessert the rasmalai was lovely and we could not stop talking about this find on the way home. Notified work mates and we plan to all visit very soon. The food is spicy but not too hot chilli wise but you should not go for a late meal as the spices need time to settle before sleeping on a full stomach. It is vital to book your table at least a week in advance or you will be queuing for at least half an hour. The service is prompt and polite and the food comes to you very quickly. The place is very popular and the atmosphere is buzzing and loud as all around you people are simply enjoying the food and chatting. No alcohol is sold but you can bring your own, no charge. Might struggle to find a parking place if you come at peak times like Friday or sat.”

“This is an historic pub (part of the building, anyway), which should be a bit of a treasure. We have been going there for years, but I have to say that the current state of the toilets is beyond belief: they look clean, but the smell knocks your socks off! Also, the last time we went (on Sunday 22nd Feb 2009) the end bar was being used by a group who were barring the entrance from the street by putting their chairs in front of it and being abusive to people who tried to enter: we told the staff but they did nothing to stop this. The staff here work hard and are pleasant: they need better management here, and cleaners who know how to clean a toilet properly!”

“What a shame the superb makeover didn't extend to the food. My visit last week was a huge disappointment. My pate starter was almost frozen while the main was dry and overcooked. My partner had more success with the steak which was very good, though nearly 20 quid. Other diners agreed that even the relatively simple dishes like the sunday roast were not great - not bad but just not the quality you'd expect for the price. There are plenty of nearby restaurants where you can get much better food and pay the same or less . The staff are largely friendly and the bar seemed like the kind of place i'd pop back to for a pint or two - I'll just make sure to eat elsewhere first. Three more niggles, if you're printing dated, daily menus why include 'specials' which aren't available. Flabby frozen chips are rarely 'hand cut'. Finally, if you're thinking of booking please note the rather strange policy of not accepting reservations between 1pm and 3pm on sunday- that's lunchtime for most of us.”

Picture of The Plough, Barnes & Sheen, London

The Plough, Barnes & Sheen (Bar / Restaurant / Hotel)
“The Plough has always been our destination of choice for a friendly relaxed atmosphere and a good choice of food. Recently it has been tastefully refurbished and gastro-pubbed. But Sadly it has lost much of its unique atmosphere. Under new management it seems to have also lost its way and gone from an always full and happy venue summer and winter, to on the occasions we have visited to a rather sad ghost of its former self. We love this pub and have tried to support its reincarnation. On a recent visit [week day and not half term], we waited three quarters of an hour for a lunchtime sandwich, a bowl of luke-warm soup and some soggy chips. No-one came to explain the delay and when asked said there was one chef on and orders had built up, concern appeared to us minimal to say the least. Regretfully as this is not the first time we have had problems it may have been our last visit. PLUS POINTS dogs and children are welcomed, a good selection of beers and there are daily newspapers. We still believe the owners/management have underlying good intentions, but need to get it right, right now. In the current recession the Plough is a would-be gold mine, so whoever owns it needs to get mining. Janet Street-Porter recently remarked that venues need to listen to what customers want and give to them. Can't agree more.”
