Hi I used to love this bar. Sadly when there was an apparent mistake made with my bill on Saturday night when I was wrongly charged for 2 additional cocktails on my bill having left my card behind the... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“I went for a colleagues birthday drinks. The night started poorly- it seems maybe 3 staff cover the entire bar. It was waitress service - good point - but a negative when after an average of half an hour wait per drink you then have to head to the bar yourself and queue to get served and finally get the drink you ordered ages ago! Secondly- the worst attitude of door staff I’ve ever experienced in London, New York or anywhere for that matter! Frumpy, badly spoken and understood English, patronising and weird doesn’t seen sum the three we encountered up. They insist on asking everyone their age and for ID, take ages to find their guest list and tick you off and look you up and down as if you are lying! Outside with a friend for smoke breaks I over heard various customers get into heated conversation with the door staff over their attitude - this with the drink waiting time means we went once- and won't be going back. I'll be amazed if it survives.”

“I came here for my birthday two weeks ago and had a ball. We had a corner table and had the most spectacular japanese meal, our waitress was japanese as well and made a great job of explaining the food and the concept. I loved it and am begging my boyfriend to take me back!”

“Some of my girlfriends and I came here for some drinks and ended up sitting on the central table for dinner, which was absolutley devine. If you've never been there before you'll see they have this huge iceblock on the table, and when they need to use the ice the bartenders politley warn you that they are about to saw the ice and that you should take care not to get wet. They then lay a napkin on the table and pull out this massive SAW!!! They then abruptly saw a piece off the block in about 30seconds and quickly clean up the table and chizzle the ice into a piece big enough for a galss! Drinks and a show indeed!! Besides that the environment is great, the music compliments it well. The drinks and food are mouth-watering and the service outstanding.”

“A louche establishment but nevertheless sates the need in a way few other clubs in Mayfair can. I'd recommend arriving after 10PM to avoid anyone else.”

The Salt House, Maida Vale & St Johns Wood (Bar / Restaurant)
“I visited to the Salt House today. Went to the bar. Ordered a burger and a coke. I said I'd pay up front. When I came to pay I saw on the computer screen that a 12.5% service charge of £1.50 had been added. Even though I had gone to the bar, placed the order myself and offered to pay there and then. I should also mention that this was not something they were going to mention had I not seen it on screen. I politely asked if this could be removed. My request was greeted by the following reply: “I’m a barman. My job is to serve drinks, therefore my bringing you food from the kitchen constitutes service.” I then asked the barman (not waiter you understand) if he seriously considered taking a burger from the kitchen to a seat outside, a distance of no more than 5 metres and a time of less than one minute, to be worth £1.50 he answered: “Deadly serious.” Paying for service is at the discretion of the paying customer, not at the instance of the provider. It is not compulsory and should not be applied as such. For anyone considering going to the Salt House be prepared for poor service with an attitude which you will then have to pay for.”

“Great place definitely a hidden gem. Good quality British food, great beer selection and a good wine list. As others have said the view from the terrace is pretty impressive. I will be back.”

“The bar is a little dark, but that just makes a really intimate setting. The service was really friendly and welcoming, the food fantastic. The wine list is really good. All in all I liked it a lot and will probably go back.”

19:20 Cocktail Pool Bar, City of London (Bar)
“19:20 is very disappointing. It is not 2 minutes from Farringdon Station (more like 5 at least), the burgers are far from the best in town and on a Friday lunchtime when we went the staff had a bad attitutde. The place looks tired and now dated. They say they replace their cushion covers every 6 months - this looked true, unfortunately the seats were not and needed to be replaced!”

“Such a shame the Pilot used to have a damn good chef who left after a year. I remember went out for a roast i chose a roast pork wow what a feast tender loin of middle white pork belly comes with braised spiced red cabbage, honey roasted parsnip and carrots, butternut squash puree, steamed seasonal greens include brocoli, savoy cabbage, green beans, duck fat roast potatoes, apple sauce, redcurrant gravy, scratching long ones. What a proper rare feast you can hardly find with your money. Went down the other day very disappointed. I only wish the chef before was still here. I can never forget that wonderful meal i had.”

“A friend and I went along to Bar Social last night to join them celebrating their first anniversary since opening. The bar has become a regular haunt for us and it was great to see it so busy. As always the Manager and the staff were on top form and the atmosphere was buzzing - the music very good and a friendly party feel. The bar is always welcoming and the nice little touches, like the complimentary choccie with your first drink is unusual. If you haven't already been along to the bar it is a must and somewhere you can hang out with the girls (or guys) all night.”

The Bolingbroke, Clapham (Bar / Restaurant)
“For years I have bemoaned the absence of a decent gastro-pub on Northcote Road and so was excited at the prospect of The Bolingbroke. So far though, it has been a bit of a disappointment. They seem unable to serve their real ales (TT Landlord and Deuchars) in good condition, and our first meal there last night was a real let-down. The attractive menu was promising, with much made of the provenance of the ingredients, but the execution was frankly poor. Stale bread did not augur well. Scallops to start were fine though the pea puree could have been cold mushy peas and the acompanying ham was cooked to a toothbreaking cinder. Belly pork main was flaccid except for the seperate piece of crackling, one end of which was again horribly overcooked. Sea bass somehow contrived to have the appearance and texture of rollmops. The unmentioned dishes were no better than OK. The next table rejected their roast beef with trimmings. Service though was faultless and charming.”

Picture of The Rutland, Hammersmith, London

The Rutland, Hammersmith (Bar)
“We visited the Rutland Arms by the Hammersmith Bridge this evening for Dinner. We ordered three different meals, one of which was at best acceptable, the other two disgusting. The first meal was the Roast which was OK except that it mostly consisted of potatoes. The second meal was the sausages which could not even be cut through with a knife because they were dried out and burnt. The last and third meal was the Beef and Ale Pie which had virtually no beef and only gravy with the pastry like the sausages, dried out. When we raised this with the waiter, he responded that he had asked us earlier if the meals were OK to which we agreed they were. However, that was almost as soon as we had started and we had not been in a position to know if the meals were acceptable or not. At our request, the waiter then asked the someone more senior to see us who immediately took an aggressive stance stating that we had been asked earlier and that as we had already eaten some of the food, she could not give any form of refund. Only with some argument did she agree that they would refund one meal but not any more. Even though we tried to raise this problem in a reasonable manner, we were treated very badly which left us feeling especially bad about this experience. The Rutland Arms is in a great position, the decor is lovely and the drinks were fine. However, we absolutely would NEVER go back or recommend this as a Pub to eat at.”

“Wow, dinner and a show! Sitting at the "Shochu Table" right infront of the ice block, the most unique feature in any bar in London, is by far the best seat in the house. When they do saw the ice you may want to watch out for the "impending snow". The atmosphere here is just great.”
