Christopher's 18 Wellington Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 7DD (Map)

Classy decor, excellent martinis, very chilled out atmosphere - especially for central London. A great find. More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

The Plough, Barnes & Sheen (Bar / Restaurant / Hotel)
“The Plough has been transformed from a warm and welcoming pub with great food - to an overpriced cold non child friendly gastro pub. The prices are West End/Mayfair standard. The new owners simply have a listening problem - The Plough could be packed if only the owners listened to what the community really wanted. With 3 managers in less than 9 months- service is Fawlty Towers like - although very adept at ringing up a bill for diner a deux with a bottle of wine for £150+ ”

Dirty Martini Covent Garden, West End (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Have to say this has got to be one of my favourite bars in London. The atmosphere is excellent whether you come nearer the weekend when it is packed or the quieter times during the week. Service is always excellent and the cocktails are superb. Some of the best cocktails I have ever tasted. Don't believe me? Try their chocolate and breakfast martinis. Great happy hours give excellent value for money. Service always good with friendly bar staff, excellent table service and human bouncers. Would highly advocate a trip to Dirty Martini and would not hesitate to bring friends / dates / clients here. Superb.”

The Grove, Balham (Bar)
“Recently spent a week in London and had the oportunity to visit the Grove numerous times. We found the pub very charming. The manager went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He even managed to find someone who knew how to make a Tootsie Roll for me. That is a drink left over from the 1970's that no one seems to know how to make anymore. We are looking forward to traveling to London again and will surely make the Grove a top spot. The Sunday Dinner was the best we have ever had. Kudos to Chef. The BBQ was also fabulous.”

The Blue Anchor, Hammersmith (Bar)
“The pub has been done up, but not sure if it's any better. To be honest i think it's trying too hard. Still better than the Rutland and the views in the evening are some of the best on the Thames (was there on Friday night and the sunset was spectacular). But that traditional pub wholesomeness that the Blue Anchor had has gone a bit with the re-furb. (And the prices have increased...) Why are people allowed to rip out the inside of traditional old pubs? Surely there must be some preservation law in place? Would give 5 stars for the view. Service is good.”

The Pottery, Kingston (Bar / Restaurant)
“The owners have converted this old bar into a rustic yet modern tapas restaurant. We enjoyed good quiality tapas to start plus 2 mains meals and wine plus a couple of off the tap Guniess for 50 Quid. My main of Lamb skewers served with seasonal vegetables was so big I reculantly had to decline the chalk board desserts which all sounded homemade and delious. One of the highlight was the freshly baked bread which was made onsite. Overall this is a great little local and we will definately go back.”

Murphis Karaoke Bar & Restaurant, City of London (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“This club was absoloutly awful. We went as a large group, getting in was awful the bouncers drooled over us and wouldn't let us pass for a good five minutes trying to make small talk, leaving us standing in the cold, the club itself has a dirty interior nothing to show for itself but a tiny dancefloor that one of my friends fell over as the lino was coming up at the edge, we spent about half an hour trying to get a drink but the bar man was too busy trying to talk to a women at the other end of the bar leaving us drinkless and bored. The same songs played countless times. When we did finally get served the drinks were expensive and watered down - sambucca was sippable. The toilets were horrible broken and dirty with no locks and one of my friends was approached quite fourcefully out side when coming out. Over all i would not recommend this club at all, if anything stay well away and if you do decide to go for the "chique filth with a hint of dancehall kareoke" take some latex gloves, and a friend to go to the toilet with.”

“Waited a long time at the bar to get served, felt I was being deliberately ignored. Finally managed to order a bottle of wine to share with friends and settled at a free table. Half way through our evening we were told by a female? manager that we had to leave our table because it had been reserved. There was no reserved notice on the table and no one in our party had been told when we sat down that the table was reserved. What's going on? We were told that another table would be found for us and we were shown to less congenial table in the beer garden. The "manager " offered us free drinks for the inconvenience but by that time the conviviality of my evening had evaporated and I left. Who were these special people who were so important that we had to be removed from our table? Couldn't the "manager" have given these people the table she eventually offered us instead of spoiling our evening? This is our local pub and it's an appalling way to treat regular customers. I do not recommend this pub.”

The Tapestry, Barnes & Sheen (Bar / Restaurant)
“This is probably one of the most “good value” for money restaurants in South West London. The Owners and Staff are always ready to welcome you with a warm and genuine smile and even when very busy they are always very helpful and friendly and will do their best to find you a table. Food is always of a first class standard and one of the few restaurants where if you ask for your meat to be rare it is cooked correctly. Good size portions and innovative menu which changes daily. Highly recommended and well worth a visit.”

The Barracuda, Ealing (Bar / Club)
“Shut this place down please. They have changed the name and done some cheap decorating, its a shame they couldn't get rid of the management/owner of the place. Random prices, watered down drinks, rubbish staff in the bar and on the door, JOKE.”

Savoir Faire, Bloomsbury (Restaurant)
“I have been booking lunches for myself and a group of retired work colleagues (meeting about once a month) at Savoir Faire for around eight years. Our numbers have varied from around 5 to 20 depending on our availability. We have enjoyed consistently good and well-presented French cuisine at an extremely reasonable set price for two courses and have always been made very welcome.”
