The Lodge Tavern 53 The Mall, Ealing, London, W5 3TA (Map)

I love this place, really nice atmosphere and it is different from everywhere else in ealing...Quite interesting cocktail list, usually in ealing you are given the choice of sex on the beach or blue lagoon...eugh!:( The... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“I agree totally with the last review. Since the Plough has been done up, it's atmosphere-less and the management made a major mistake not correcting the problem soon enough. It has lost huge local custom. Here's a 'Strong' hint. Fire your french chef or get a spine and put on what locals want. Add some TV's for sport to get the punters back in and some background music and take full advantage of the status of cosy country pub you once had when the pub was packed every night!! It may be a posh area, but surely you know us posh folk are scrooges!! As an aside, I still drink here as it's about a foot from my house!!”

“I would like to thank the staff at Dirty Martini for looking after me and my friends, we were celebrating my birthday. No complaints from any of us, will definitely be going again. Cocktail menu is amazing. Was slightly disappointed the DJ would not take any requests, but that was a small thing, on the whole a very nice experience!”

“Drop in this bar for a pint or two, especially over the Summer, usually afternoons ar early evenings. The garden is good, gets a fair bit of sun, and has some plants greenery around (but could do more with it!). Inside it can be a bit dark, but the sofas are comfy. Bar staff are very cheerful and helpful (at the time of writing they were Ibby, Natalie, Barbara and Joe) and the range of beers good (Hoegarden and Leffe being my faves). They're trying to bring in a lot of people earlier in the week by having Mojita Mondays and double cocktail Tuesdays etc, and I hope they succeed. Food is ok, but the fave for food seems to be the nearby White Hart. All in all, probably the best pub to chill in the Palace, and if you see me sitting by the bar there come up and say hi!”

“I work in Corporate Travel in the City of London for one of the largest Japanese banks around and have been to restaurants, good and bad, posh and quirky, all over the world. Please do NOT do this restaurant any favours by lining their pockets with your hard-earned money. The food is absolutely terrible, the waiters completely indifferent. I questioned the bill as it included some drinks we had not had. I was then subjected to a barrage of abuse.”

“A great venue. Main positive were the generous servings. Will definitely be going back when next I'm in North London”

The Grove Bar & Restaurant, Hammersmith (Bar / Restaurant)
“One would be surprised how few good eateries there are Hammersmith. There a lot of offers of sort "meal for two £5.99" and similar. What you get is some sort of stale tortilla toped with a sour cream, guacamole and salsa dip. If you want a decent meal and a decent drink you need to stroll up to Hammersmith Grove where there are a few decent eateries. One of those, in my opinion the best of the lot, is The Grove Bar & Restaurant as they called it. The Grove is in fact typical gastro pub albeit quality one. The food there is always fresh and simply delicious. I particularly like the fact that they change menus twice daily so every time I go for a meal I feel as if I am going to try a different restaurant and yet everybody knows me. Apart from their tender, organic Argentinean steak there is always number of fresh fish dishes on the menu and quite a few have been revelation for me. I also adore their organic house wines. Those are about £12 but the trouble is one is never enough for me and my partner. Staff and regulars are very friendly and I consider the Grove to be my second home. In fact I feel better there since at home I have been hounded lately by ever worsening news about credit crunch and deteriorating economy. Viva the Grove.”

“We had lunch at Flava's today (took our 17 month old). It was fairly quiet & felt nice & spacious; a good place for the baby - he wanted a nose around & didn't get in peoples' way! The food was fine and service excellent; our waiter was Phil. We'll definitely be going back. Apparently there's a family fun day next weekend. Shame most of the staff knew nothing about it / there's no advertising.”

“What can i say?? This is one of the most welcoming bars i've been to in my whole life.... I initially drank in this establishment about 2 years ago and the cocktails were what i expected for the money and the staff were very down to earth... I myself as an East Londoner returned today with 3 of my friends from the same area... I can only speak for myself... i found the clientele friendly... which i can only presume as the regular crowd.... the drinks were amazing.... and i mean truly amazing, i'm not a seasoned cocktail drinker but i can handle my consumption... you can tell that by my stomach.... but the icing on the cake to this venue is truly the friendly bar staff, the customer service skills displayed are honestly second to none... in some venues in London a dj is employed to set the mood but at Be at One in Covent Garden the bar staff excel and i mean absolutely make yu feel at ease like a great barber does in a friendly hairdressers... the team they have behind the bar are truly professional and know how to look after these bar staff... and i think they are headed by a fella called martin....”

Simply Indian, Borough & Southwark (Restaurant)
“I ordered a takeout for delivery. The Waiter was rude on the phone. I was told 45 mins for delivery of our dinner but we waited over an hour! When I called the restaurant, the waiter was very rude, dismissive and arrogant. Food finally arrived and was very dissapointing. Onion bajis were burnt and hard like rocks and portions were small, not good value at all. There are much better Indian take outs than this!”

“In theory, good place to have a drink and a laugh. but the service is appalling - regularly wait 5-10 minutes. Staff appear to have been told its good to let 'em wait. Have decided not to go there by choice, which is a shame.”

“This is the Best Restaurant I've ever been to. I am well traveled and have realized it is hard to find a really good restaurant. The food and ingredients are the finest of the finest. The dessert is to die for. You will feel like your in heaven. The atmosphere is soothing to the soul. All I can say is I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.”

Picture of Christopher's, West End, London

Christopher's, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“I've visited Christopher's about 5 times now and the main draw for me is the consistency of food and service. The brunch menu is fairly priced (unless you overdo the cocktails!) and offers comfort food for 'mornings after', as well as healthier options for a lighter meal. As a creature of habit, I generally go for the two course brunch as I struggle with three courses here. Something like blackened chicken breast, roast tomatoes and mash to start, then blueberry pancakes to finish. Service is friendly and attentive but not intrusive, and the cocktails are awesome. Try the apple snap (?) which has elderflower, muddled mint, apple juice and champagne. I wan't too popular drinking this in front of my pregnant partner but gave her a sip as it was too good to miss. We'll go back to Christopher's every few months for a delicious brunch as long as it maintains this high standard.”

“The idea of pizzas with toppings from different worldwide dishes isn’t very nice; I’d recommend you to stick to the sensible choices. It was a very busy Tuesday night and obviously they were rushing around trying to avoid eye contact with dinners to prevent more work, although they did seem nice whilst serving. However, when it came to paying! I found it VERY CHEEKY that the OPTIONAL service charge of 12.5%! was included in the total without any subtotals to tell you how much it would be without the service charge. And to add to this! Before I was able to ask for this to be removed from my payment, the lady took my card and went off with it to their till without a word (a card should never leave its owner’s sight as you would never know what they would be doing with it, they could be copying down your card details and you would know until you find money missing from your account! And I wasn’t too happy about that). I was expecting it was a chip and pin, but she came back with a receipt I had to sign for my card payment with the optional service charged included without asking! I ask her if the 12.5% service charge was optional and she replied “yes!” and turned away immediately! (I’ve read many other similar reviews where they’ve done this before, one even said they left without having a birthday cake they brought with them because they would’ve been charged for their service to cut and serve the cakes). I was very annoyed with this! And she OBVIOUSLY knew! Giving”
