The Old Queens Head 44 Essex Road, Islington, London, N1 8LN (Map)
I absolutely love this place. The food isn't bad and there's a fairly decent, if a little bit pricey, range of drinks, and the downstairs part is full of good looking chaps and lasses. But the main reason... More

The Grenadier, Knightsbridge (Bar)
“What a little gem of a pub! Very traditional still and hidden down Wilton Row. When you eventually find the right road and go around the corner the pub has such an inviting look about it. Inside is small, cosy and beautifully kept. Staff are friendly and efficient and the food is good, although a little expensive. £9 for a burger with nothing else. But would still recommend it!”

“Solid boozer for watching the footy. It almost has a walkabout fee to it but better and the German theme is very authentic with the beer excellent!”

Carluccio's, Wimbledon (Restaurant)
“My prosecci was flat and taken from open bottle. Garlic bread was cold and soggy. Ravioli had no taste. Very average meal and felt ill after. Atmosphere dull. My husband complained his pancetta salad had too much cheese. Will not be returning. Staff were friendly and service good though. And I forgot to mention mains came before we finished starters!”

“The bar staff at this pub are have a particular issue with serving women which i and my female friends have encountered on many occassions. I have stood at the bar for 15/20 mins and the female bar tender asked the man to my left what he wanted. Thank goodness he said; "she's been waiting ages" to me, because I was able to buy a drink.”

Circus, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“Went to Circus last weekend to check out all the Hype... And have decided it is definitely worthy of it. Not only did I have a great meal but we got dancers and trapeze acts the lot it was fantastic. We tried a number of the cocktails which were amazing to start and the food was truly melt in your mouth. I went for the Steak but would have happily engulfed the whole menu. The staff are lovely the atmosphere was alive and we ended up spending the whole evening there. On top of it all I thought it was all very reasonably priced. I will of course be returning to Circus as soon as I can get me and all my friends booked in next. I would definitely recommend it.”

Circus, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“Went to Circus at the weekend. Loved the attentive staff right from the moment of stepping over the threshold. Loved the venue. Thought the menu was a nice refreshing change. I had the langoustine which were delicious, and the schnitzl for main which was really disappointing. Burnt in some places and soggy in others it just wasn't cooked very well.
The floor show, which is obviously the main attraction for people to go here was also a bit lack lustre. Good when it happened but 3 short 5 minutes performances in nearly 3 hours in being there is scant to say the least. Felt a bit like we were being encouraged to stay longer and spend more money in the hope that there would be more entertainment. Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend it. Sorry.”

The Latchmere, Battersea (Bar)
“If you like football and ale, then downstairs is a fairly decent place to hang out (food's not too shabby either). The real draw here though is the theatre upstairs. True immerse theatre in a small environment. Much more value for money that any West End pieces. And it's only a bus ride home (or to Clapham Junction - worth the trek). Great plays, cheap drinks and loads of really nice, culturally interesting, beautiful young ladies (the Irish redhead with the glasses, especially. She was a stunner!)”

The Mitre, Notting Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“The review above is dead right. It's more a restaurant than a pub. The food here is amazing and easily puts anything in the West End to shame. It might seems expensive when you look at the menu (which is HUGE) but then you are buying into high class. Beautifully decorated too. Only a 30 seconds from Holland park station so no excuse for not giving it a go.”

The Kings Arms, Waterloo (Bar)
“A true hidden gem of a pub. It's like a old maze in there. Especially on a Friday night after work. Loads of nooks and crannies and open fire greatness. Plus, even though it's mega busy, you get served very quickly (staff are great). Would like to go back on a Sunday to see the difference. Better than The White Hart round the corner, just. God selection of ales too.”

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK), Clapham (Restaurant)
“These burger are not cheap but my goodness they are hearty! And they have a MASSIVE range so it should keep everyone happy. You have to try the Kiwi burger with beetroot and egg in it, a true New Zealand treat, especially when combined with a Mac's Gold NZ beer. These guys always have special offers on too so keep an eye open for those. Goes well with a trip to The Clapham Picturehouse up the road. The atmosphere is a bit sterile though. Makes for quick eating.”

“Always a pleasure to visit this restaurant out of the many times, the taste is different to your normal east end restaurant and that is therefore the reason in which i credit this establishment, the chicken tikka masala always hits the spot on the taste buds”

The Bridge Pub & Dining Room, Hammersmith (Bar / Restaurant)
“Just had a terrible experience in the Bridge. It's a lovely space but the service was appalling. First the manager didn't show us to our table; just waved in the general direction of where he wanted us to sit. After waiting for 45 minutes following ordering my partner asked for an update on when our food was coming. After ten minutes no one had bothered coming to speak to us; so I enquired again. Finally we were told our waitress had forgotten to give our order to the chef. What annoyed us was not that the waitress had forgotten - these things do happen; it was that no one had bothered to communicate with us and we had to chase and chase them. Finally to add insult to injury we were not even offered a complimentary meal or even a complimentary drink! I have rarely encountered such poor service and it's a shame because it is a lovely pub to be inside. Very disappointed.”
