“Perfect pub.... Relaxed and atmospheric - You forget time and all stresses when you go there (Nice touch with all of the clocks running at different times so you really loose yourself and stop worryinging about what time it is!) People are lovely and so friendly - everyone talks to each other and it is just a really brilliant place... Not many pubs like this left - Go there immediately... Go for the delicious food Go for the drink Go for the atmosphere Go for the relaxed interior... Just be careful because you may never want to leave...”

“The only place in W1 that caters for real music fans, everyone in this club is dancing, there is not standing against the wall looking stoosh here. The drinks are cheap for W1 standards and the atmosphere is a good one. Music to expect on a Friday night: Hip Hop, R N'B, Bashment, a l'il Tupac and Dipset, Funky House, and some retro i.e Cameo - Candy etc. This is the only place I feel in W1 you get your money's worth a lot of the other clubs in Central a prentencious, over priced, and the DJ's do not know what they are doing on the decks!”

Cafe Rouge, Crouch End (Restaurant)
“My Husband and I went to the Cafe Rouge in Highgate for a light Sunday lunch; it was the closest thing to a Faulty Towers experience I can imagine. The waiter whilst nice had a bit of trouble understanding our order, had BO from rushing around and clearly had too many tables to handle as the service was slow from start to finish. Half way through the meal water started dripping on me though a speaker from the ceiling about - when I mentioned it I was told "ah, that’s the 4th time it's happened, sorry about that" - surely the main problem is the risk of electrocution and that the ceiling looked likely to collapse – we were not offered another table or a towel to dry my coat or discount off the bill. I ordered a Bacon, onion and gruyere cheese tart which was overcooked and bland but salty, the dressing on the salad came straight out of a pre-made bottle and at £8.25 I wasn’t impressed. My husband ordered a salad which he really enjoyed so I can't slate the place entirely but needless to say we won’t be back.”

“Have been using this restaurant for many years and it always offers good food and a high standard of service. Recently had a three course meal with 3 beers and one glass of wine and it came to £70. Highly recommended.”

“This is the only place you can hear REAL music in the West End now and not the generic house/rnb crap most other clubs are playing. Drinks are reasonable too. Only draw back is it gets too packed.”

“Went here for Valentines dinner. The food was great and the wine list was clear and impressive with no outrageous over pricing. The service was also really good and three courses with wine for two people at £60 is pretty good going. I'd recommend the Normanby to anyone!!”

“Well, I can say that this pub is one of my local in Camden (and it's me living in the area....). I completely agree with the other reviews, it's sometimes a pain in the ass to get served but it got much better lately..... And I have to say that they have one of the best selection of beer you can find in a normal pub (not a beer emporium like the Rakes in Borough Market) in London.... The Budvar Dark and the Fanziskaner are fantastic..... And the staff is also nice, sometimes overwhelmed by the amount of people coming in (especially in the summer when the beer garden is full). And on top of that, the food is not bad at all, I agree a bit pricey sometimes, but of good quality. All in all, a very nice pub, much better than the usual Camden pub.... :-)”

“I went to the Oktoberfest in Germany for the 6th time last year and after last Saturday night I can honestly say that this is the closest thing to beerfest I have experienced outside of Munich. The beers were HUGE and the food authentic and in MASSIVE portions. Great atmosphere. The German band was a little loud when we were there but the drinking games were fun and it was really worth the effort! I give it a big thumbs up great fun!”

La Bouchee, Kensington (Restaurant)
“We always head for La Bouchee after a visit to the Albert Hall (usually matinee) as it rounds the day nicely. Service is always friendly, although not always the fastest. But with good friends and a great bottle of wine it is never a problem. The specials board is great fun to interpret into English but with the help of the staff it seems to work. The food has always been of a high quality, well cooked, good varied selection and hot when served. Cost works out around £50 per person (for 4) for 3 courses plus at least 2 bottles each of wine and water, with coffee. I find this good value in a good atmosphere.”

“I have been to Oktoberfest in Germany twice and this place was great. We went there to watch the England rugby and they had a live German band after the rugby had finished. It was awesome!! We had some great German food and everyone was singing along with the band and dancing on the tables. One of the best nights out I have had in years.”

“I have eaten here three times since Xmas - every meal has been excellent. Best steak and chips I have had for a long time - hard for me now to choose anything else if it is on the menu. Under 18s ok until 8pm, which thankfully means that Cafe Rouge is no longer our only option....”

“Great new Japanese restaurant near Edgeware Road, owned and cooked in by ex-Nobu chef, but without the Nobu prices. The food here is excellent, in particular the yellow tail sashimi and black cod. The place is very small and very simple in its decor, but the staff are really friendly, if lacking a little in English. AA Gill really slated it in his Times review, but I am just about to go on my third visit and can't relate to his comments. Hopefully his review will mean that the restaurant keeps it's prices reasonable for Japanese food in London, and keeps the hoards away, so it's still possible for ordinary mortals to get a booking!”

“Love this place! Work nearby and we go there every week for lunch, or friday drinks and food. Love the way it's decked out, and the choice of drinks. My favourite is the Aspall Cider. Make sure you go upstairs.... the bar is usually quieter there and it's a comfortable room to sit down in.”

New World, West End (Restaurant)
“Last Chinese New Year (2007), I was introduced to this restaurant by a Chinese friend. The service and food was good. I went again in the year with another Chinese friend and retained my first impression. However, this Chinese New Year (2008), I went with a group of non-Chinese friends whom I had recommended this restaurant to. It was very embarrassing. The waiters ignored us, it took forever to get a bowl of steamed rice and one waiter was even downright rude! The other waiters who had observed this, looked shocked, but tried to excuse his behaviour by saying "he is crazy". I understand that as it was Chinese New Year it was a busy day, but this is no reason to be rude to paying customers. Our complaint about his behaviour was not taken seriously. It seems that you only get good service when you go with Chinese people. Never Again!”

“This is a lovely venue although more chilly than chilled-out due to over-zealous air-conditioning. I was very disappointed with the selection of wines by the glass. In fact, there is only one very basic french red wine offered and a small glass costs the same as the price of the bottle. The service is very poor - the plates are cleared before the meal is finished - and, although only optional, the service charge is conveniently added and, if I understand correctly, further gratuities welcomed. Having said all this, the food is delicious, even if the re-heating of the dishes is a little haphazard. I wasn't sure if today's lamb dish was meant to be served warm, cold or tepid as it was actually a mix of all 3 but it was very tasty.”
