“This venue shows that you can get great Australian Cuisine. With a charming atmosphere and a touch of class, without the pretentiousness especially on Australia Day. Oh and great beers to compliment!”

“this is a truly awful pub. this is a vibrant capital city, yet this pub should be situated in the back hills of some bleak northern outback such is the lack of atmosphere. a conservatory and a sky screen does not maketh a pub and the manager is a stroppy miserable sullen man who delights that his pub caters for one man and his dog! ....it boasts the usual range of lagers that could be served in any pub across the land. squalid toilets that seem to be constantly flooded by water or some other fluid! ...whatever you do, do not enter this pub, there are far better ones on the same road, you have been warned!”

La Maja, Notting Hill (Restaurant)
“I went out to eat with a friend of mine at La Maja yesterday. I'll never go there again. On entering, we were met with a rough "Smoking or non-smoking?!" by a short woman with absolutely no manners. When we replied "smoking" she just said "over there!" And pointed to the tables near the door where we'd come in. No, "hello". Nothing. Not even a smile. I was a bit miffed but, we'd come a long way to eat there. So we sat and waited about 5 minutes before the waitress came over and asked if we were ready to order. Again, no "hello", no friendly smile. In hindsight I should have just got up and left. I wish I had. We ordered 2 beers to start with. The waitress returned with 2 warm beers. As we were drinking, the short woman came and locked the door next to our table. The regulars (all from the spanish community) that came in for a quick coffee were treated warmly. And although I speak spanish fluently, I only asked for the check in spanish at the end to let them know that "Yes I do understand Spanish!" The food was not that great, the only thing I could say was good was the chorizo, and 'Leaving the Restaurant'! I'll never go to La Maja. Gong out for Spanish food has, up until now, always been a good experience for me as certain places remind me of my time living in Spain. I've never been so poorly treated in any restaurant, anywhere. It wasn't that busy in there and I can understand why. We never received a smile the whole time we were there. Never again.”

“An excellent after work drink location. I took my staff here for Christmas drinks and the place was buzzing. Really cool decor, good staff who knew what they were talking about and even better drinks. As it was a celebration we had cocktails - all made with fresh fruit, no preserves or juices here - that were lush. Champagne is very reasonable here too for a Covent Garden bar so we had some of that before trying the deadly retox programmes. All in all I had a perfect night, and have already been back - this time to treat the missus! A real find in Covent Garden.”

“If you have a problem, well, don't try to speak with the manager. You'll will wait at least 15 minutes. If you touch him on the shoulder because it's noisy, you'll have the privilege to hear "don't F***ING touch me" when you're trying to explain your problem. Nice, nice, nice. In one night I had 2 DISPUTES. Sorry but no more. He asked me to call the police to solve my problem and ran away.”

Rupert Street, Soho (Bar)
“As a local regular (lunching there with friends at least a couple of times a week) I reckon Rupert Street is a great bar! The staff are friendly and the service is good... However, the Rupert is a little unpredictable in terms of its opening times. Lately, when meeting friends I have got into the habit of telling them 'meet you for lunch at the Rupert at 12.15. If they are late opening, I'll probably be over at Balans, rather than waiting out in the cold for them to open...' So all in all, a great performance (when they are open). But probably best not to rely too much on their advertised opening times...”

The Harringay Arms, Crouch End (Bar)
“The Harringay Arms has to be my favourite pub in Crouch End and probably even London. As Maxi rightly mentions the décor is simply out of this world, and from an era well before my time. The beer is always of the highest quality and the service is consistent. Most of the locals are in day in, day out (Not sure how I know that) which simply ensures there’s always fresh beer in the taps. There’s no music but the key sports games are often on a small TV in the background. There are plenty of canines in the pub to help you finish the last of your pork scratchings or Scampi Fries. Well worth a visit to one of the last bastions of the traditional English boozer.”

“If you have not been here you are missing out. This has to be the best pub in North London, the interior is 70’s medieval revival and a lot of the clientele have probably been there since then too, but that merely adds character to what is in the small minority these days, a proper pub. You’ll always receive a warm welcome and a great pint, which also seems to be a rarity these days. For the hungry among you the bar stocks all the old favourites; Pepperami, pork scratchings etc, and for the more adventurous diner there is always a choice of finger rolls. Music is not played, which adds the extra dimension of being able to talk to more than one person at a time. In the summer it boasts a bijou beer garden. It is affectionately known by the cognoscenti as “the office”.”

“Very unfriendly place. Went to check the band out with friends whom are frequent drinkers, and we were served by the most stuck up bar people and the management was an abusive foul mouth woman, my friends were apologetic as we now live in the area and never drink there again. Please take this matter seriously.”

“I had lunch here today and thought that the food was absolutely diabollical. I asked for my rump stake (to call it a rump stake was being more than generous - more like the soles of my shoes) to be cooked rare. It came burn't and quite frankly i have had easeir times slicing trees apart with spoons. To add insult to injury my pint of lager was warm and the chips wre cold.”

“Friday nights are great and we have been going for about 3 years off ond on. Staff are great and always friendly. The rock music does get too much and that last dj really plays for himself not the crowd. Roxy gets a great crowd in and I have never seen any touble and there is always a relaxed feel.”

Pause, City of London (Bar)
“Nice enough bar, although a bit on the small side. We reserved an area only to find on arrival that it was overrun with other people ... the waitresses did a very good job of clearing the area for us though, and their service throughout the evening was great. HOWEVER ... one of the main reasons we went to Pause was the Happy Hour until 7pm. Only when I received the bill did I realise the exclusions to this policy ... house champagne and beers are NOT in happy hour. The waitress failed to tell me this even though I specifically asked her if we were indeed in Happy Hour. VERY DISAPPOINTED, considering the number of bottles of champagne and beers we had, this made a significant difference to the bill. We did have a fantastic party but this has been marred somewhat by the Happy Hour incident! (and this bar is not cheap anyway...)”

“Freud's is my dream. The most delicious cocktails and a huge selection enabling even my changeable moods to be fulfilled. The atmosphere is very artistic and it’s like a hidden underground secret (however, always busy). I recommend Freud’s to all my international friends who are visiting for just 2/3 days; it’s worth it.”
