The Roxy 3-5 Rathbone Place, London, W1P 1DA (Map)

The bar staff here need to learn manners. A group of us went along for a few quiet drinks after work only to be abused by unhappy staff who have serious attitude problems. Colourful language was used by... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

The Windmill, Brixton (Bar)
“Definitely not a place for the more classy, fussy type, it looks like a hole in the wall and most of the regulars are lucky if they still have all their teeth. But the snakebite's extremely good and the people are v. friendly. I love it! Great bands, A nice dog up on the roof and has been known to have a free barbeque in the summer. FREE!”

The Dome, Kentish Town (Bar / Club)
“If you're fourteen, you'll love it. There's a safe bouncer downstairs who'll let you sneak in a six pack of strongbow which you can consume daintily in the bogs. It's a complete shithole, all the girls are off their faces and wearing nothing but a bra and fishnets. If you're pissed, you'll enjoy the music. Not much chance of a pull, and you're more than likely to bump into someone who you didn't want to see. Now and again they'll play a good punk tune. It doesnt usually get more diverse than sometihng like TimeBomb by Rancid though. You'll embarrass yourself by getting really drunk and deciding you actually DO like that Linkin park song afterall. People will give you their fags. Stuff gets nicked. I'm going there tomorrow night”

The Stage Door, Waterloo (Bar)
“This is an excellent little boozer, conveniently situated five minutes walk from Waterloo station and the Southbank. Although the pub has had a 'fashionable' makeover in the last year, the staff are very friendly and down to earth, not patronising and disdaining like the staff in some of the refurbished pubs closeby. It has an wonderful 'local' atomsphere where visitors/Southbank workers are made to feel extremely welcome (especially if you like Cricket and Rugby). There are also free events happening at the Stage Door at weekends such as open-mike nights, jamming sessions and so on. It's one of those pubs you can visit after work on a Friday night and then stagger up to Waterloo and scoff a Burger King for the long train journey home.”

The Calf, Clapham (Bar)
“This is the worst pub in Clapham. Though a good place to go if you want to save money as it takes an age to get served. Was there last week and it took 15 minutes to get served. The food is awful as well. Over priced and takes ages to come. I guess its made its name from somewhere but can't believe why people kepp going there.”

Beach Blanket Babylon, Notting Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“Beautiful place, but less than poor cooking skills make for average food at a more than average price. Cocktails also punchy on the price front. Shame - its the kind of place you really want to fall in love with when you walk in the door. I just felt all round deflated. Probably best to pop in for a coffee just so you can enjoy the venue - but spend the serious money elsewhere”

Union, Marylebone (Bar / Restaurant)
“Best place to spend your weekday evenings around Baker Street if you're not ready to a] venture out to a club or b] your plan is to eat first, and then party - Union is modern enough to have a good beer & premium spirit selection and serves up solid gastro pub style food. Bar staff are friendly, lively and fun. ”

The Herbert Chapman, Holloway (Bar)
“Surprisingly pleasant pub on the dodgy old holloway road. Very clean, comfy seating, the usual fireplace and big screen sports TV - but best of all well trained staff with a wicked sense of humour - which is why the bar stools are the most coveted seats in the house. The new food menu actually delivers, and sizeable portions of classic british dishes keep bums on sofas and spirits high.”

The Longford, Hampton & Teddington (Bar)
“Seems to me this place is trying to be too many things to too many people. There's the posh gastro pub - feel with fancy red wine displays, back-lit italian espresso machine & ornamental mirrors; wacky back bar fish tanks & staff with the occasional 'i'm mad, me' outfits; and multi-coloured disco lights on a wall full with abstract art pieces. It's more confusing than comfortable at first but its also a huge place with an atrium in the back area bringing lots of light into the dining area next to the well-run open plan kitchen. Lots of potential, the imminent refurb should give it the attention it deserves.”

The Oakhill, Bromley (Bar)
“definitely the proverbial oasis in the beckenham decent pub desert. looks lovely, good layout of seating around the bar so even when its busy you can have some privacy. superb sunday roasts and sizeable 'oakhill-style' sandwiches keep bringing back customers for more every weekend. fireplaces give the rooms a welcoming warmth in winter but the real hit is their gorgeous back garden in late spring/early summer - what better way to enjoy your sunday lunch - or BBQ - than sharing a wooden table and a drink with your friends in the sun, surrounded by an abundance of colourful flowers and greenery listening to water slowly spilling from a fountain into their little pond? see you there.”

Northumberland Arms, Fitzrovia (Bar)
“once past the initial impulse of avoiding tottenham court road at all costs there are much worse places you could end up in than the 'arms. everything here is straightforward & unpretentious: service is fast, food is substantial and good looking cocktails & liqueur coffees keep the girls happy. can't fault it.”

Metro, Holloway (Bar)
“Metro 'bar & canteen'is a good looking, spacious venue offering top quality, uncomplicated modern british food during the daytime and cocktail fuelled DJ parties on special evenings. The fact that its located in between a college and 2 Uni's guarantees reasonable prices, fresh faces & good attitudes all round. all areas of the bar including the back room are available for hire - as are the decks for all aspiring bedroom DJ'on certain weekdays. Sophisticated, friendly and unintimidating.”

Long Room, Ladbroke Grove & Kensal (Bar)
“This bar seems somehow misplaced in the queens park area. Put it anywhere east and people would kill - or at least queue - to get into this warehouse sized, bright, beautifully designed space. Recent noticable changes are a shorter, snazzier italo menu, DJ's on selected nights and later opening hours [0:30am]. Unchanged are the well made cocktails, pizza specials, friendly staff & reasonable prices.”

The King William IV, Hampstead (Bar)
“If you think about how much ka-ching walks by the king's door every day [hampstead high street, darling] it is surprising how unspoilt this pub still is - not a fusiony nibble, sauteed prawn or chocolate souffle in sight. Instead the atmosphere is relaxed, and it sometimes gets a bit noisy with the many different nights they host [hula party in february - genius] great place to drink & not be rushed.”

Babel, Clapham (Bar)
“So glad i found this laid-back bar that's trendy enough to attract interesting people; fun, fast, attentive barstaff devoid of attitude [so important - it really annoys me when I get served by someone sour-faced, ignorant & deliberately slow] and ever changing pages of fresh fruit cocktails great for my kind of vitamin intake. Highly recommended.”

Picture of Nordic Bar, Fitzrovia, London

Nordic Bar, Fitzrovia (Bar / Restaurant)
“I went to Nordic twice in about 6 months. The first time I went there, I was very excited to try the assortment of drinks, especially since a well-situated sign on the bar indicates a policy of making all drinks with double portions of alcohol unless specifically asked for. Unfortunately, on the particular weeknight that I went, my brother and I seemed to be the only guests. The next time I went with a group of people and hardly recognized it as the same bar. It was full with a fun crowd of good looking people and cool music. We proceeded to try pretty much every drink that they had available and set the foundation for a great night. Fun barstaff; at one point the bartender invited the guys in the group behind the bar to watch the ladies down a specially made shot. All said and done, great bar!”

Souk Medina, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“This restuarant seems to think its a nightclub. The music so loud I couldn't hear anyone at my table without shouting. The staff were unhelpful and only interested in getting people in and out as quick as possible. 3 course dinner was over in less than an hour and the bill brought to the table in a not so subtle gesture to get us to leave, which we were only happy to do. As for food don't expect anything too special. The set menu is basic and rather stingy in proportion and quality! Cocktails are poor and most of our glasses were dirty. ”

Catcher in The Rye, Finchley (Bar)
“A lovely experience at the Catcher in the Rye, the Staff are warm and friendly, the decor well matched. Noticed that there is a sign saying over 21's only, with a great mix of people. Food was very tasty. I had the chicken Fajitas great portion sizes. A must for anyone with taste.”

Picture of The Crown Tavern, Clerkenwell, London

The Crown Tavern, Clerkenwell (Bar)
“Meeting friends at The Crown is always a delight on a rainy Saturday afternoon, even more so than on hot summer days. The range of Belgian and fruit beers delight the palate, and should you find their alcohol content leaves you lightheaded, the range of bar snack and meals are toothsome and satisfying. The staff are extremely friendly and the place has the atmosphere of a country village pub - albeit with and urban upmarket bohemianism that reminds you you are just around the corner from Fabric and Turnmills superclubs, seated right in the heart of the media/design/IP/advertising hub that is Farringdon. Highly recommended for its unique blend of old world charm, public house relaxed ethos, absence of pretentious fittings and creative crowd. ”

"Found myself in the city just as the rush hour was starting, so decided to kill a bit of time until the trains began to empty. As one of the remaining pound-in-the-pot pubs in the area, this is the classiest..." Which venue is this?

"Girls were rude demanding tips for a poor show. If this is the best club London has to offer don't bother going anywhere else in the city." Which venue is this?
