The Water Margin at the O2 Unit 23, Entertainment Avenue, Greeenwich, London, SE10 0DY (Map)

I was lucky enough to get tickets for the ATP Roddick and Nadal match last night at the O2 so popped into Water Margin for a quick bite on the way with mates (glad we did, the 3rd set started after 10pm!!). The... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“This used to be an old man's pub but it's just been bought out by a trendy gastropub brand and the crowd and atmosphere has noticeably changed. Much better now than it used to be. At least everyone now has their own teeth.”

“The brand new refurbishment has made this legendary live music bar in Soho much more appealing. Nothing wrong with being clean and tidy whilst you rock and roll.”

“Not only is this one of the best hidden gem pubs in the whole of London it must also be one of the best beer gardens in London. Fantastic beer garden, loads of room, varying seating arrangements, great food, and an excellent array of beers. I'm happy!”

“Went in here for the first time last night and although this bar gets marked down for not having any ales or bitters (even though they have about 16 types of lager), the vibe is certainly pretty cool. Part punk, part Americana, part nouveau-riche, this bar will appeal to the rockers and the rollers of Shoreditch. Especially with the new live band club downstairs. The burgers and pizzas are quite decent too.”

“There are two reasons why myself and my mates like coming here. (a) Top, top tunes. (b) Hot, hot girls. If you like either (a) or (b) to be just a little bit indie and very very cool, then this is the pub for you. Easily the best pub in Shoreditch.”

“Another brilliant cocktail bar idea to hit Shoreditch. Will this trend never end?! The mixture of Prohibition speakeasy cocktails and live music make this one of my new favourite bars. Not particularly easy to find, but worth it nonetheless.”

“Walking past on Wednesday night we took the chance on a meal out - not generally choosing hotel restaurants - however we were really glad we did, a fantastic find! The staff were lovely and friendly and the food was great, had a nice g+t in the bar afterwards as well :)”

“I had a great time at the Brickyard Bar and Grill. We had a meal, cocktails at the bar and went down to the Cellar bar. We had starters, mains and dessert, and our food was very good indeed. We had fresh seafood from the Oyster bar for starters then the special Lamb Shank for mains and it was very tasty, just fell off the bone. The home made cheese cake for dessert was amazing!!! Our waitress was very good with plenty of knowledge about the food and wines. She was very friendly and she made our experience very enjoyable. After desserts and coffee, she recommended cocktails and shots. We had shots then she managed to find us a table in the bar area where we had cocktails made by the lovely tall dark haired bartender. After about 5 cocktails, all recommended and lovely we went down to the Cellar bar till 1.30am, danced on 80's style flashing dance floor to the Motown and funky house tunes. Over all we had a very enjoyable evening and will be going back again, very soon. Have told many of our friends about it and they will all be visiting too.”

“The most awful meal out I've ever experienced. We saw the menu in advance and knew the food was pricey - but thought it would be worth a visit after a 50% off coupon landed on our doormat. In all honesty the menu was not that appealing - lamb with burnt leeks and picked carrots, £26 8oz steak, shephards pie, fish and chips....Pretty standard pub food at double the price. But we figured it must be wrong we were! I had the cod chowder. It arrived in its own little casserol pot and was an impressive start. The lid was lifted and although it was a very small portion, I was more surprised at the lack of sauce. I was basically faced with a small portion of cod, sitting on half a slice of bread and a bit of sauce with carrots and celery. But unfotunately worse was to come, the little sauce that was there, was completely inedibele and incredibly acidic - almost like pickling vinegar!!! After a chat with the chef, the saff claimed there was no vinegar in the sauce, only wine and lemon. I had to suggest that maybe, just maybe the wine was corked, or the dash of lemon they claim to have added may have reacted with the wine?!. Either way it was truely awful and in hindsight I should have sent it back immediately, instead I managed to eat one grainy mussel(of five) and part of the fish that was not sitting in the sauce. I filled up on slices of bread and butter instead and watched my friend eat his food. They eventually offered me another dish, but I felt so quesy at this stage that I couldn't face anything else. At £16.50, it wasn't only the acidity that made me quesy. My friend ordered the lamb shoulder, which at £17 was also a very small portion and was served with two tiny pickled carrots. A side of potatoes had to be ordered once the dish arrived, only this was served at the end of the meal. At this point we both felt very embarrased and so did the poor, young waitress who in all honesty showed her awkwardness even approaching our table - despite us being friendly and apologetic! Basically, overpriced food, a poor menu, a chef who clearly doesn't always taste their food whilst cooking and most definitely not worth a second visit.”

“i love garlic and shots and always have great service, food and drinks here. this may be because my best friend is the waitress and i use to work here. However every person i have spoken to eating or drink here say they are thoroughly enjoying it. If you dont like garlic you are very silly to go here (gives it away in the name) and if you dont like rock, metal, music then you wont like it either, so just go somewhere else. This is a well known and well respected restaurant which make all food from scratch with the very best ingredients, so if you enjoy garlic, honest good food, shots and rock and roll your love it :)”

“My experience in the Brickyard was really great!! I was on a first date. The service was excellent we had a really wonderful meal and time. From the moment we stepped foot in the premises we were greeted by a friendly host and hostess. The host let us have a drink at the bar first before he sat us down at our table. The bartender made us a lovely royal mojito. It was a saturday night and it was really busy and the music was approriate to the embiance. We ordered the best steaks and our special duck starters was fantastic. And we were checked back by the manager who is really helpful and professional. The server of our table was professional and she tended to our needs she sounded like a liverpudlian. Afterwards we stayed for the live music the sax player was fantastic!! Overall its a wonderful evening and i will be coming back and will be recommending this restaurant to my clients!!”

“I absolutely love Villiers Terrace and would eat there every day if life and work didn't get in the way! They serve really tasty grub - way too good for a gastro pub! It is by far the nicest gastro pub in Crouch End with nice decor and the garden is really nice too especially in the summer. The service is worth mentioning as the staff are a nice bunch and look like they enjoy being at work and seem to be well versed in customer service and it makes a big difference.”

“It wasn't the Atmosphere, Value of Money or Quality I went there for. My ancestor owned the 'Blue Angel' sometime in the late 1800s. I was on a flight from Athens to London and I was telling the woman next to me the story and she said, "Oh my god, I used to sing the blues there, I'm taking you there for beers." So I met her at the angel station, and I commented on the name of the station and she said, "The station is named after the Blue Angel." It was a touch stone to the past for my family and so glad I got the chance to go there, even though it has moved from it's original location.”

“I simply loved Angelus!! The food was some of the best I've ever eaten and it is by far my favourite restaurant in Bayswater! I'm a bit of a wine buff too so Angelus' extensive wine list made my night! Will be back again and again. Perfect place to take a date you want to impress!”
