“This place is Elephant & Castle's best kept secret. Amazing Vietnamese, Thai and other Asian dishes, and really good value. Try the Thai calamari.”

“The restaurant's menu has an extensive list of options, every way you could think of cooking a fish, they've got it. The lobster is amazing and reasonable priced. It has a calming decor complete with fish tanks and white walls. The staff are extra friendly and happy to tell you all about how the numbers in the piranha are on the decline. hint: they're not leaving of their accord.”

“Myself and 3 friends ate here last night. It was a Monday. This is a key piece of information because the restaurant has a 50% off deal on Monday nights. We ended up having loads of starters, two beers each, plus mains with rice and prawn crackers to start and we paid less than a tenner each! Unbelievably amazing value for money. And the Vietnamese food that is served here is top notch. Apparently the chef is ex Wagamama and Busabi Eathai so the pan-Asian parts of the menu will be next on my order list (next monday?).”

SW9 Bar Cafe, Brixton (Bar)
“I opt for a little kitsch and comfort called ‘SW9’ which lounges at one end of a dubious looking Dorrell Place. It is lovely. It is purple, welcoming, has mirror balls, paisley wallpaper, and best of all – cake stands – complete with cake of course. It’s camp as Christmas albeit a purple one and I love it. Oh! And did I mention that their blackboard reads: ‘Ever tasted Pussy?’ It appears to be a new energy drink – more stylish than its counterparts - but how fantastic! I‘ve parked myself beside the very welcoming floor-to-ceiling radiator; from here I can see both the bar and the outside world. The real world. To step inside ‘SW9’ is to step into a different, more surreal dimension. The owner, Alan, looks like that guy, the one from the films, with the floppy hair – but kitted out in ‘Diet Coke Chic’; a tight white t-shirt and washed out denim jeans. Not nearly as attractive as their French burlesque waitress who served us yesterday. If I had the patience to apply make-up daily I might recreate the look (I can’t do this due to the fact that I’m just so inconsolably lazy). While I’m thinking about this I can hear one side of a conversation being held behind the bar (up through the dumbwaiter shaft to be precise): “Blue cheese” “cheddar” “parmesan” “big block” “smooth” “smooth, smooth” “yeah, with big lumps in!” “carbonara”…It’s anyone’s guess… The very well spoken women to my left have just ordered crumpets; I’m jealous. I might have a chocolate muffin. The French girl is outside enjoying the tail end of her cigarette; before starting work I presume. I’d like to think it’s a Marlborough Red or, even better…Gauloise or Gitanes (although I doubt the possibility of the latter two, even if she does happen to be French). Her hair and make-up is, once again, perfectly sculpted. She is wearing a red headscarf, Nora Batty style, held in place with Kirby grips. She has dark hair, piercings, and tattoos.”

“Barrio Central is my favourite bar in London. I had my birthday drinks there last summer and we also held our engagement drinks there in March this year. Both nights were lots of fun and the Barrio staff couldn't have been more helpful - they gave us tips as to which part of the bar would suit us best, and, for our engagement drinks, they even very kindly threw in a bottle of bubbles to help us celebrate our news. I'm sure we'll be back again soon!”

“Took my girlfriend to The Alma on saturday night (28th april), we had such a lovely relaxing evening. It took me by surprise, keep it simple and well executed. Lovely food, try the homemade Chocolate Fondant, it's delicious. The vibe is relaxed, friendly and homely. Just right, not pretentious. Will definiately be back.”

The RIBA, Fitzrovia (Restaurant)
“I had lunch at RIBA, in March this year (2012) whilst visiting London, with my brother, who is London based and a very good friend of long standing who also lives in London. We went to the restaurant on a recommendation from a reliable 'foodie' source so arrived with high hopes and expectations! On arrival in the foyer of the imposing RIBA building it seemed an unlikely venue for a fine dining restaurant. Up a flight of stairs to the dining room and I must admit to feeling a little apprehension. We were warmly greeted but the dining room is very large and at first impression a bit cold and barn like. We were shown to our table by the Maitre de who was very attentive and quickly ensured that any apprehension was dispelled. We were seated on one side of the restaurant with plenty of natural light from the tall, floor to ceiling windows and were immediately put at ease by our waiter. The lunch menu was interesting and varied with both 'Table D'hote' and 'A la Carte' options and the wine list is comprehensive. We sampled widely from the 'A la Carte' menu; scallops and wild rabbit starters; beef and fish for main courses and delicious desserts featuring exotic chocolate concoctions. The courses were punctuated by 'amuses bouches' from the chef which were a lovely touch and we shared a plate of excellent cheeses before finishing the lunch with coffee and 'petit fours'. The wines which accompanied the meal were very enjoyable although I must confess that I cannot remember any of them to name! The service throughout our lunch was impeccable; attentive without being in anyway intrusive and our party all felt we had enjoyed an excellent lunch and eqally importantly an enjoyable experience. My early apprehension on arrival was quickly dispelled and I know I can speak for my lunch companions in saying that we were delighted with our experience at RIBA. A very big thankyou to all the RIBA restaurant staff!”

“I came to the adventure bar on Saturday to celebrate my birthday with another of my friends. We hired an area which was all set up for us when we arrived. The staff were really friendly and one of them got me doing the macarena at 8.30pm, I was impressed by how much energy all the staff had! The barmen and ladies really made the experience and the cocktails were really great. It was also good that the staff were recommending things to try and encouraging you to drink and dance but without being pushy. Thought it pulled a nice crowd as well because of that. Thanks Adventure Bar Clapham Junction for an excellent night!”

Ronnie's Bar at Ronnie Scott's, Soho (Bar / Club)
“This is what I imagine the Moulin Rouge used to be like. A variety of the city's music lovers crammed into a tiny space, sweaty and intoxicated, enjoying every minute of the performances set before them. What a cool bar. Plush seating, loads of history, as cosy as a warm blanket, table service, and with London's full range of live music appreciation hedonists smiling ear to ear. Love it.”

The Riverfront, South Bank & Bankside (Bar / Restaurant)
“This is a little slice of east London's cool Shoreditch district transplanted to south London's South Bank. Everyone hanging out in this bar last night looked like they could live in Dalston: the girls were all beautiful, dressed is floral pattern dresses, thick rimmed glasses, often sporting a funky haircut; the chaps all had facial hair, top button done up, and thick rimmed glasses. A very cool bunch indeed. Most likely because (a) it's part of the British Film Institute's building so feeds into that culture vulture vibe, and (b) because it is right on the South Bank under one of the many bridges. A tres cool spot if ever there was one. Most people were drinking wine or beers (the Palm Amber Ale was rather tasty). I haven't eaten here yet but will make sure to do so very soon. My only gripe: the price. 3 pints for £15!! Ouch. Still, it's worth it. My new favourite bar.”

Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar, Waterloo (Bar / Restaurant / Hotel)
“This venue's transformation from fine dining restaurant to casual British restaurant will no doubt suit the tourist-heavy foot traffic (especially during the Olympics this year) who will be looking for hearty British fayre. The steaks are decent, and there is a decent variety of cuts too, in a variety of sizes to cater for all appetites. The service was very good: knowledgeable; eager to please; chatty; smiling. The portions are large enough to keep our American cousins happy too. The decor is subdued but as modern as it can be in such surroundings. Good to see English wines on the drinks list too. Overall: a very enjoyable, if somewhat expensive evening.”

“Scoring the atmosphere, Value for money and Quality doesn't do this place justice – it's the sum of all the parts. I know London clubs, but this place has something special the others just can't reach. Maybe I got lucky with the company but that's my point, each time I go I feel lucky – blew my evening/night away, again. So much so, I found this page and wrote a review for them. Go check it out”

“Visited The Lamb Tavern on St George's Day... lunch in the dining room was fantastic, the steak and kidney pudding was perfect, must be one of the best in the city. great atmosphere, every seat taken. we even took place in a world record attempt for the most people to toast st george and then boris appeared outside for one of his election rallies. a few more pints of youngs outside on the cobble stones topped off a brilliant afternoon. well worth a visit for the market itself”
