“Ended up inadvertently at 'The Cod' the other night and contrary to some reviews I’ve seen, I had a perfectly pleasant time (mind you I didn’t eat so can’t comment on that except that the menu looked enticing). Arrived by taxi for some reason and never quite got my bearings as the place seemed to be on a back street next to the rear entrances of some of South Ken’s finer department stalls. Have to say I’ve a soft spot for back alley ‘finds’ and even more so when it’s in parts of London you wouldn’t think they’d reach. Some people I met there have been going intermittently for years and claimed that Fergie used to hang out here. Not sure if that’s a good sign or not but anyway, it makes for good pub tittle-tattle. Edward Codrington, by the way was a sea Captain during the Battle of Trafalgar and the place is appropriately decked out with nautical and British sporting paraphernalia.”

The Arab Boy, Putney (Bar)
“Firstly, the beers were good. Next, and almost as important, the atmosphere created by the clientele was very relaxed and friendly. No music or one armed bandits in the Arab, just conversation with what is a very mixed crowd. As a Scotsman in London for the weekend that was very important.”

“About time Morden had a decent place to eat and drink! The menu was huge and the food was amazing. I loved the trendy décor and the place had a really great atmosphere. My only disappointment is that I hadn’t found it sooner.”

“The quality of food and drink is not bad, but the staff, in particular the grey-haired woman that works here, is incredibly ill-mannered and rude, that's why I'll never come back to this place when I'll find myself in London!!! The worst staff I've ever met!”

The Riverside, Vauxhall & Oval (Bar)
“Nice decor, good atmosphere especially on a Sunday with the live music, great views, slow to very-slow (!!) service, food is bad (but I mean really bad, don't even try the beef or veel burgers, it may kill your tastebuds for ever, the side salat was a week old), prices are high. In short - nice for quick drinks, for everything else you'll be better off going somewhere else! What a miss...”

Owl & The Pussycat, Shoreditch (Bar)
“Nice to find a traditional boozer in shoreditch, but the grumpy bar staff add a bit too much authenticity. The Landlord looks so miserable you have to pray he won't cry as he pours your beer, and that's assuming you can get served by him, as he only seems to serve you if you are within 3 feet of him...”

The Glasshouse, Richmond & Kew (Bar / Restaurant)
“Food was average for the price - the quality having gone down in the last couple of years. When we last went the delays in service meant that we were 5 minutes over our "first sitting" time. The manageress rudely asked us to leave the table "now". I couldn't believe it. I won't go back.”

Cafe Koha, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“Encouraged by the reviews on this site and my own two brief visits there, I called and booked the downstairs area for my boyfriend's 40th. 4 weeks later i called back to confirm numbers. I was told that my booking had not been considered 'genuine' as I hadn't sent in a cheque. The problem was, no-one had asked me to. I was also told that no one felt it necessary to call me and ask me where my cheque was or query my booking. I was also told another lady wanted the room, and had promised to bring 60 people. As they couldn't accomodate my party as well as hers, unless I could up my numbers, I would loose the booking. I was told, very politely, 'madam, business is business'. I have been completely screwed by this venue. I am currently frantically searching for another venue to have my boyfriend's 40th party, complete with a confirmed and paid for belly dancer. my experience of Cafe Koha is that they are untrustworthy and not very customer friendly! i was promised a call from the manager to 'sort out' the mess. As yet no one has called....”

Picture of Wolfe's Bar & Grill, West End, London

Wolfe's Bar & Grill, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“This is a restaurant definitely geared towards tourists and work nights out. My steak was overcooked, salad was not fresh, salad dressing was tasteless, no-one asked if the food was okay, croquet potatoes were like something from a school dinner, the decor is as old and tacky as the menu, and they have the cheek to automatically add 12.5% service charge to the bill. Please do yourself a favour and avoid this relic of the 1970s. The chef clearly does not care about the food he's sending out of the kitchen, and the staff are obviously not interested.”

“Recently re-furbished into a mainly locals bar. Everyone welcome from all walks of life. Excellent well-kept ales. All major credit cards taken. Pub style home made food during the week, special steak night. A very popular sunday carvery. Live music entertainment every Friday.”

“Worst pub i've ever been to. Service is SO bad. Staff always look stoned out of their brains. It's a great location and a great atmosphere inside, but the punters are never coming back a second time because it's so poorly run and by people with zero intelligence. Pity.”

Picture of Souk Medina, West End, London

Souk Medina, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“I visited Souk Medina in June with a large group and had a fantastic experience. However, when returning recently was really let down by the service. We had the set menu, which was a little disappointing. And then at the same time as the sweets and tea being brought to the table we were also brought the bill without requesting it. The waitress then addressed us twice to pay the bill - even though we had plenty of food and drink left and had only been in the restaurant a little over the hour. When making the booking we were not alerted to the fact we would only have a set time on the table - so found this behaviour very rude and for this reason would not return. It is unfortunate though, since the atmosphere is great and the food is decent.”

“Awesome bar. Absolutely amazing cocktails, and not badly priced considering they're served in almost pint sized glasses... The staff are friendly, and really know what they're doing. Even if a cocktail is not on the board, they will be able to prepare it for you, to perfection. I had a fantastic night when I came here, and will be returning to Freud on many occasions...”
