Monkey Chews 2 Queen's Crescent, Chalk Farm, London, NW5 4EP (Map)

Love this place. Awesome for a Sunday roast and to kick back and read the papers. Bar staff, especially on Sundays, a little dopey! More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“One word ā€“ dire. Having traipsed some way to get here, we were in need of a hearty Sunday lunch. The first shocker was the prices ā€“ £11 for a pub roast is plain cheeky. Food was cold and sent back. It returned after a long wait, cold again. Roast was ok but nothing special and certainly not worth the hefty price. A goat's cheese canneloni at £9 should have been great but was actually disgusting. Some of the staff were a bit snotty when we said the food was cold. Manager redeemed things but he could hardly argue when we refused to pay. It is a nice pub to look at but they desperately need to sort the food out. Not worth a special journey - pop in (for a drink) if you're local.”

“Always loved Beach Blanket Babylon but since they refurbished it - must have been a couple of months ago - it's even better! Food is excellent and the design of the bar is simply gorgeous. You must try it.”

One Paradise Road, Richmond & Kew (Bar / Restaurant)
“Paradise one is an awful bar. Its crowded, noisy, the staff are rude, and the service is terrible. Richmond has many better bars than this.”

“This used to be a top East End Gay Bar. The quality acts used to all perform here, the music was good and the customers and staff very friendly. Successive renovations have made the pub/club far to open and noisy, when acts are booked they seem to lack enthusiam for the venue and it's management, often knocking the pub management from the stage. The pub management also seem to have forgotten that this is a Gay Venue and the place seems over run with straights kissing and simulating sex and treating the gay customers like an exhibit in a zoo! ”

“I couldn't believe the previous reviews; I mean how can you charge £16 for a main course, £9 for a vegetarian pasta and it be awful. So I went and the food was no better than school dinners or you could expect, from a cafe (with no accent). Can my tastebuds really be too sophisticated for chelsea at such a young age? Music was great though .”

“if you enjoy being gawked at by the locals and having bar staff ask you what sort of bourbon you would like (they only carry jack daniels, technically a sour mash and not a bourbon at all), this is the place for you. ”

Baroque, Ealing (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Once a brilliant bar, Baroque has gone downhill of late. It once served the most fantastic cocktails but now due to staff incompetence, cheaper ingredients and plastic glasses the cocktails are now substandard. However at around £8 each they are no cheaper. Preferential treatment is given to diners of the Kiwi Kitchen. As a drinker I find the staff downright rude and unpleasant and the surroundings cramped and uncomfortable. As a long term customer of Baroque I am thoroughly disgusted by the way this once exceptional bar has been run into the ground by the new owners.”

Picture of Lowlander, West End, London

Lowlander, West End (Bar)
“A wonderful Belgian / Dutch styled restaurant / bar with a wide variety of speciality beers including the usual suspects of hoegaarden, chimay, leffe blonde / brun, but also has an extensive collection of obscure bottled beers, my peronal fav being the fruilli banana beer or Kwak. (for the glass its served in and its amazing potencey and origianl taste). The food is good value and always presented beautifully, consisting of a good selection of belgian fare as well as a traditional styled menu for the less adventurous. The 'Lowlander' gets extremely busy in the evenings so i advise you either get there late afternoon and start your beer experimenting early or book a table in advance, personally i feel there's nothing better than to arrive around 3pm and work my way through their beer menu after a hard day in the office, before you know it the place is packed out, very atmospheric and the whole experience comes to life. The staff are usually very friendly, although at busy periods i have found it somewhat difficult to attract their attention, but this never a huge problem. Overall i highly recommend the 'Lowlander' for a fun, lively evening of good food and great drink, if you do prefer something a little more low key and traditional try the 'Dovetail' in Clerkenwell. Or if like myself you become hooked on the whole Belgian experience, do them both in the same night. Ahhh, the best of both worlds!”

The Sun Inn, Barnes & Sheen (Bar)
“Oh dear, this place looks fantastic when you walk in, all the charm of an old fashion pub. But there is a problem, no matter how great the place looks it's spoilt by rude bar staff, a manager lacking in ability to provide quality service and the glass of beer I purchased was expensive and served in a dirty glass! Unfortunately on this basis I would not recommend until they clean up their act.”

“What a dining treat! Wonderful food, and supurb attention from the staff. It was so enjoyable that we were drawn back there to feast three nights in a row in spite of other dining options. The meal tastes better in pleasant surroundings and Bizzaro succeeded in providing these. Hats off to Bizzaro and the wonderful Italians who greet, serve and prepare food there. I look forward to returning the next time I see London.”
