Beach Blanket Babylon, Notting Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“If you live in London then you've got to expect a couple of overpriced nights out once in a while right? BBB is taking the p**s - the food was simply dull, it would have been really hard to put any less effort into the cooking. It was the bare minimum to be able to call it a restaurant, steak came cooked either medium-rare or medium-well which is the trades way of saying, we can't cook how you want it so we'll only even try cooking it a little or a little more. The lamb was litterally put in the oven, cooked for the required ammount of time and served. "Balsamic" vinegar was just average redwine vinegar, wine was supermarket bottom shelf, and the salads were just lettuce, tomato and onion, no dressing - i can make that myself thanks! In fact it was so incompetent that they even left half our order off the final bill - it almost made up for the disappointing experience.
Really yet another proof that these sorts of fad places are great if you have money and no taste. For anyone with a bit of class, they certainly wouldn't go twice.”

Kink, Angel & Islington (Bar / Club)
“The review that said it has half of north london queuing to get in cracked me up!! The place is always dead!! ALWAYS!! No atmosphere at all which is prob due to the fact its on scally' road! The only places that do well here are Irish pubs, if we want to go to a good bar there are much much nicer and trendier places 10 mins walk out of the Cally. No one goes on their night out to Cally rd, hence this dive is empty.”

The Pottery, Kingston (Bar / Restaurant)
“Chintzy restaurant/bar for the well-heeled kingstonians -
A bunch of us had the misfortune of eating the most unauthentic tapas ever. The bar prices were rediculous too.
I have been invited back there tonight, which will be it's "last chance" to redeem itself. Will report back.”

RS Lounge, Woodford & Chingford (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“RS Lounge could be an excellent club/bar if they realise what area their bar is in and the main clients they should be attracting.. there are some great bars in Chingford and Woodford which are cheaper and less particular..”

The Triangle Bar & Restaurant, Finsbury Park (Bar / Restaurant)
“Excellent Restaurant for a Main meal, all staff were really friendly and helpful. The menu is suitable for all tastes (absolutely delicious) and pricing was good too! We reserved a table and although we arrived a little late, they were still very accommodating, as we were, when they mentioned that they needed our table for a large party arriving in the next 15 minutes. Everything about our dining out experience was great and I would highly recommend to everyone. All in all we had a fabulous Dinner out and will definitely be going back.”

Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Soho (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Great music, desperately uncomfortable church pew-like seating unless you pay top pricing (£40) for one of the few round tables. On the plus side, acoustically fantastic, great proximity to the artist and extremely attentive waiting staff. Just borders on being pompous and middle aged compared to somewhere funkier like the Jazz Cafe in Camden.”

Moonlighting Club, Soho (Bar)
“Bouncers were a little pushy with us as there was a big group, but once we got in the place it was great! One of the best mixes of music I've experienced in london and, though a small dancefloor, that added to the fun a little as it forced everyone to dance more or less together by the end of the night!
A good night all in all!”

Canteen, Waterloo (Restaurant)
“Ate at The Canteen with a group of 4 on Saturday evening, and all I can say it was a massive disappointment and bad experience. The setting and layout of the room is quite functional, but don't let that fool you. As we waited (for a rather long time) for our food to arrive, it was apparent that there were grumblings of dissatisfaction from 2 tables around us. This was a sign of things to come. We ordered 2 starters, one of which was the pint of shrimps which came with very fishy, anemic shrimps in their casings and not properly cleaned off. Our mains were satisfactory to poor. The 'Steak and Kidney Pie' and the 'Sausage and Mash' were okay, but the 'Fish and Chips' was similar to something you would get from a children's menu (the fish tasted and looked like a flat giant fish finger, the chips mediocre at best), and the Lamb Roast dish was a joke: the cuts of lamb appeared to be leftovers from the carving board, the roast potatoes were starchy and dull, and the "mint sauce" was a bland, runny gravy-like substance. To top it all off the food was overpriced and the service was poor and rude. "Hip" restaurants like this give London a bad culinary reputation and I definitely won't be going there again.”

Margarita Loca, Battersea (Bar / Restaurant)
“I went to margarita loca for my birthday party this weekend. I am so pleased i chose this venue as my friends and i had a blast, great friendly fast service, hilarious barman, funky latin music, cowbells and musical happy birthday song, restaurant was packed and staff still had time to serve our cake - cocktails are reasonable and strong in flavour - the usual umbrellas and fruity decorations, i was actually surprised at quality and taste of food, excellent for meats, we particularly like t-bone steak, chicken & prawn fajita and beef burrito, portions big !!
just go there, i read a review which was not nice and they must be mad or in a different restaurant. ADIOS AMIGOS !!!! 25/01/09”
