Fox & Pheasant 1 Billing Road, Fulham Road, Chelsea, London, SW10 9UJ (Map)

This is a cracking traditional London pub! Only minutes away from Chelsea football ground but tucked down a private residential street the pub oozes a great pub atmosphere. There's a lovely beer garden... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“Not a bad bar to get some late night drinking in on High Street Ken. Gets busy and the music is loud enough to make talking impossible but it's alright. Cocktails are made well, but could be a tad stronger...”

“The WORST service in London and overpriced food that is badly prepared. I've lived here for 10 years and trust me, it doesn't get worse than this. I spent £23 on a fillet steak that I asked to be medium rare. It was somewhere between medium and well done. I should have sent it back but the service sucked so badly that by that time I just wanted to leave. I always tip and I tip well, but not at The Archduke. The looks of horror after we asked for the 12.5% service charge to be removed were priceless. Stay well clear of this place if you want to avoid disappointment.”

“What a disappointment. My king prawns looked very lonely on their plate, no green gazpacho as described on the menu. The monk fish at £15 should have been tasty but sadly tasted of nothing. Yes the fish was clearly fresh and of good quality but lacked flavour. The grilled artichokes were miniature and dissolved on contact. The spinach was watery. The dessert was a disaster: lemon tart with a meringue topping. The pastry was rock hard requiring chisel motions to cut through it, the lemon filling was good, the meringue was not a meringue rather a layer of sugary slop. The wine was good and the fried potatoes were yummy. At no point did any of the waiters ask if we enjoyed our meal.”

“Excellent food! Tried the restaurant for lunch and they had two courses for £7.50. Great Thai food and the service was lovely - very sweet waitress whose English wasn't the best, but we forgave her!”

“Worst thai meal I've ever had. Rubbery, inedible tofu in pad thai. Dirty floor, tables and toilets in desperate need of refurbishment all made for an awful meal”

“This seems like a great pub for drinking and is handily located on one of London's coolest streets. Unfortunately the food was not amazing. OK as a gut-filler but overpriced if that's all it is. As the other reviewer mentions, there are so many great restaurants around here, I wouldn't bother coming to the Woolpack for a meal. As a pub though, it's tops!”

“Just fantastic, I went with my husband and it's now my new favourite restaurant. The atmosphere is very relaxing and very romantic, the food is affordable, not the cheapest but you wouldn't expect that for the quality of food you're getting, the menu offers a range of different foods, it's not a lot but again, you wouldn't expect a take-away style menu for a high class restaurant and they have quite a nice selection for vegetarians. They have just refurbished the downstairs and I must say it looks very nice and modern, the two floors are now very different but I think the lower part is used more for functions and events. I must recommend having the Black Cod and the Beef with the red wine sauce, according to my husband it is to die for and the mock chicken is superb for all you vegetarians out there. A big two thumbs up.”

Galvin La Chapelle, City of London (Restaurant)
“I had been following the opening of the Galvin brothers first venture into the City of London ever since I had a fantastic lunch at their Windows restaurant earlier this year. I didn’t think that that experience could have been beaten, what with the fantastic views and fabulous food. However, I was pleasantly surprised. La Chapelle is the fine dining option of two restaurants, the other being Café de Luxe, both being joined together by a super cool bar. The first impression is one of ‘wow’! The dining room has been expertly converted, retaining the wooden beams in the ceiling as well as exposed woodwork. A mezzanine area makes good use of the space and the overall feeling is one of luxury and style. At last, a true destination restaurant in the hyper trendy Shoreditch area of London. Whilst there were understandably not many diners, all staff were attentive and helpful. All of this showed the personal touch and a real wanting to understand what his customers liked through hands-on feedback. The menu is typically French Bistro style, along the lines of the Galvins. Needless to say, each one was spot on and at prices to suit our budget. The overall experience was an excellent one, all the more impressive as this was only the second day of opening. This restaurant looks like a winner and I am sure will become extremely popular with both the city suits and local residents like ourselves. We will be back! Thanks for a great evening M&M”

The Exhibit, Balham (Bar / Restaurant)
“I saw the (rather amusing) review on this site by Christian Rose-Day, and thought it was worth adding a review as a local and frequent customer in the Exhibit. I've been in Balham for 7 or 8 years now and this is now my favourite place in SW London. Main attraction is the bar - great atmosphere, and there's a happy hour until 11pm Thursday and Fridays (including cocktails - bargain). The music is spot on, which in turn attracts a great crowd of no-niggle SW Londoners all having fun (single mates have a pretty good track record here...!). A few years back when it was dance/house music here it was a bit of a chavvy crowd, but they've all moved on now, thankfully, and it's mainly local young professionals... and their mates realising South West London beats being north of the river! My new discovery about this place has been the restaurant - the 393 menu is just top value... you're getting really good food at the price it would cost you to go to pizza express or a curry house. It's become a weekly staple for my girlfriend and I, and the restaurant is always busy - pretty obvious endorsement to me. A good bit of credit-crunch busting. I haven't been to the cinema yet, but at £3 for some cool films, looks pretty good. Bit of a raving endorsement really... this place has come on leaps and bounds. Try it on a Friday or Saturday night and you'll see why people keep going back. Well done, guys.”

“We came here for a friend's birthday and it was a lovely pub. Only gripe is that even though the tiny dining room was half full, and we only had a party of six the food took so long with no explanation or apology. When it arrived it was great food though but the menu wasn't great for veggies”

“Popped in here last Friday night having been in last year for a works function upstairs. Nice Pub, Friendly staff, toilets were Ok I suppose given it was busy, but the food was probably the best value and highest standard in that mid market London offer. Their house burger was really good and I recommend it highly. 3 Real ales which were impressive. Nice Pub”
