First of all I loved the food and many many congratulations to the Chef! Satisfied portions, great presentation of the dishes and the staff was very polite too. The restaurant area was quite big and modern... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“The atmosphere in the restaurant is great very friendly, cosy and very welcoming! The service is as good as some of the top restaurants I have dined in, very attentive, friendly and helpful staff. The best part was the food! Amazing menu and every course was just out of this world!!!!! They also have a great selection of wines...just all round perfection! My friends and I have had the best time at The Penny Black. Will be visiting soon for my b'day!”

“It is a real shame that the poetic description of this bar simply doesn't match the reality. Well situated, with a good range of world beers, with eclectic decor it is; inviting however it is not. Prices fluctuate at this establishment depending on who serves you, or whether they are serving you what was ordered. The service you get is poor. When in Angel go elsewhere because you'll be disappointed.”

“Sensational pub experience. I am a bit of a cricket lover myself so i visited Lord's for a tour of the ground- which was excellent. I then noticed they offered a discount in the Lord's Tavern for those who were visiting the ground for a tour. I sat down to a late lunch with some friends and the staff couldn't have been more friendly. With the snowy weather outside i wanted something quite hearty and there was plenty of choice and some lovely ales to choose from. I will definitely be revisiting - not just for cricket!!”

“I go to La Brasserie often. Have done since I was a child. It's a place to go for cocktails at the bar or great food. I love going for breakfast or brunch at the weekend. I also go pre a nightclub with groups of friends for late dinner. The perfect place to people watch and a celebrity haunt. Good prices and the staff are like family. Love it!”

“I ate at La Brasserie last night with a few girlfriends. It's our favourite place. The waiters always give us a warm welcome and the service is great. The food is always excellent. I usually have the plat du jour's. last night I has their wonderful French onion soup then rabbit stew and lemon tart to finish- delicious! The wine list is good and reasonably priced. They also have a great bar for pre-drinks. I highly recommend it.”

Gordon Ramsay Petrus, Belgravia (Restaurant)
“Petrus is Gordon Ramsey's reclamation of the previous Marcus Waering-run establishment in the Berkeley Hotel. Petrus is a beautiful restaurant with a glorious central wine storage pillar that shows off probably the world's most extensive collection of Petrus wine. The dining room is luxurious, thickly carpeted, heavyweight cutler, crystal glassware and offers a real sense of decadence. It is such a shame then that the food doesn't quite match up to thie tactile experience. The flavours in general were a tad insipid - the majority of the dishes didn't really offer a true wow factor in the mouth. Yes, the plates are glorious to look at and it is like art, but eating with only the eyes is a little empty as an experience. Although in saying all of that, the best end of Devon lamb with sweetbreads was sensationalr. However, and this may just be my rose-tinted spectacles talking, but Marcus Waering did it better when he ran Petrus at the Berkley. There was something even more special about Marcus' cooking, an almost ethereal lightness of touch that in no way detracted from the fullness of flavour on the plate. Make no mistake, Petrus is pretty good, but doesn't always live up to the hype. It isn't all that expensive at £60 for three courses so is actually quite good value in relative terms! I'll be back eventually, but I think I'll go and visit Marcus first to compare!”

“SUCH a great restaurant, from the front of house welcome with the friendliest of staff to the knowledgable service and caring attitude of our waiter. Food was exceptional - truly. Only two Michelin stars? Could do with three such is the quality and clarity of each ingredient and the resultant magical combination of flavours. Rabbit lasagne - oh my goodness. Incredible. And the pave of chocolate is in a league of its own. Lunch is great value for the quality. Dinner at £80 is a bit steep for three courses, but then again it is so good I think it's worth it. I am torn between the Ledbury and Marcus Waering as to which is my favourite restaurant - I think more trials and tasting evenings are needed!”

Picture of Goodman, Mayfair, London

Goodman, Mayfair (Bar / Restaurant)
“There are many great steak restaurants in London now, with Hawksmoor and Goodman being near the top of the tree. Goodman has a great reputation and having visited a number of times now I can only agree that the steaks are fabulous, full of flavour, perfectly cooked and available in any size you want. The Porterhouse I had on one of my first visits sticks in my mind as a truly fantastic lump of meat. The chips were a bit disappointing in comparison, not being as crispy as they could be, but that's a small thing. What is a little annoying is the sometimes overbearing service, or in contrast non-existent service, depending on your luck! Perhaps it was a new team of staff or some other reason, but as long as one's expectations of service isn't Claridges standard, then you'll have a wonderful evening.”

Medlar, Chelsea (Restaurant)
“Chelsea is lucky now that it has two excellent restaurants, Medlar and Penny Black. Medlar is the newest kid on the block having been around for nine months or so, and it's cooking is Mediterranean, simple, full of flavour and delightful. Quality of produce is evident and the chef's delicate touch allows each product to display its full array of flavours. Service is a bit hit and miss and could be friendlier but don't let that detract you from the food. The roast duck breast with confit leg and potato terrine is a particular delight. £39.50 for three courses isn't a bad deal either.”

“The best tapas in London. You can't ever get a table, it's noisy, busy and you often don't have enough space for elbows, but who cares when the food is this good and the atmosphere so electric. Favourite place in London? Almost certainly...”

Picture of Fino Restaurant, Fitzrovia, London

Fino Restaurant, Fitzrovia (Bar / Restaurant)
“I absolutely ADORE this restaurant, which I think is second only to its sister Barrafina for the sheer quality of its tapas. The fennel and tomato salad is unbelievably good, all down to an incredible dressing. The ham croquetas are divine, being light and fluffy yet full of flavour and zero oiliness. But the best was the tortilla with chorizo - so much better than the best I've had in my visits to Barcelona! Needless to say, I bought the Fino cookbook on leaving to see if the recipe was inside. A note on the staff - Sebastien, our waiter and I believe the Manager, was the epitome of professionalism, but melded that skill with a deftness of touch and conviviality. It is fortunate this was the case, as the restaurant itself has a bit of a feel of an airport lounge, in that it's very open and not all that cosy. Atmosphere therefore is a little perfunctory and I think it could do with a bit of an update...”
