It's worth popping into this pub at the weekends when there is a DJ and a late licence. More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

Apostrophe, Hampstead (Restaurant)
“Apostrophe is more than a place to eat. It's a lively place of discussion, of colour, of thought and of inspiration, where you can concieve ideas over a coffee or a smoothie. And even if you've only been there once, this cafe will remain in your memory for a long time.”

Massala, Epsom & Cobham (Restaurant)
“This is a great neighbourhood restaurant. Food is a much higher quality than most Indian restaurants, and the ingredients are obviously very fresh. The chef at Massala is obviously passionate and enthusiastic about making really good, genuine Indian food. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere on a Wednesday evening was fun and convivial. I had a great time here and will definitely go back.”

The Bald Faced Stag, Finchley (Bar)
“I really want to start with the positives because this pub could be so good. The food was on the whole very good - we had starters, the fish & chips and roast beef and some desserts and were pleased with all. Unfortunately the service was absolutely shocking. It was 30 minutes after sitting down before our order was taken and some of the drinks were forgotten. The main course didn't arrive for another 45 minutes, which we polished off in 10 mins. Perhaps foolishly we opted for dessert and although this arrived within 15-20 minutes, we did not manage to pay until 2 and a half hours after arrival. We were constantly ignored, had our orders forgotten and our waiter seemed to be left to manage most of the restaurant by himself while others stood around. Our complaint to the manager about the service was fobbed off by poor excuses. Now, I've been in restaurants where they've been busy and things have gone wrong - things happen - but the best places always keep you informed on progress and try to lighten the mood a little. Sadly, the bald faced stag failed miserably in this area. Terribly disappointed.”

The Windmill, Clapham (Bar / Hotel)
“This Clapham Common pub must have had a refurbishment in recent months because the decor is much more stylish and artistic. Good to see Youngs making an effort with their pubs. Being Clapham, the crowd is quite young, but mainly on the benches outside. Inside, it’s more of a kid-friendly, family atnosphere, especially on weekends. The prices are quite expensive though, £3.40 for a pint of bitter ain’t cheap.”

The Book Club, Shoreditch (Bar)
“This east London bar and club has many different guises. During the day it’s a great place to grab some wifi and breakfast whilst conducting a business meeting (clearly very popular with the media companies that inhabit this Shoreditch area). In the evening, it’s an eccentric gathering place for people interested in all manner of things - books, music, art, discussion. Fridays and Saturdays it really goes for the clubbing crowd and gets quite busy. In recent months there seems to have been a big surge from Essex as the out-of-towners get the fun train into London.”

Bel Canto, Paddington (Restaurant)
“My wife and I love to eat at high quality restaurants. We also enjoy going to the opera. This Hyde Park restaurant brings two of favourite things together for an incredibly reasonable price. All the favourite opera songs are sung by the waiters and waiteresses who are all clearly stars in the making, such is their talent. I recommend Bel Canto to anyone who enjoys the drama of music and the taste of good meal.”

EV Restaurant & Bar, Borough & Southwark (Bar / Restaurant)
“Southwark’s tiny little Isabella Street has to the best place in London for alfresco drinking, dining and dancing. EV is the biggest of the three venues that share the street, and EV itself is split into three very different areas: a cafe/brasserie, a proper restaurant, and a bar. All three have huge spaces under the railway arches but all three also have beautiful outdoor spaces which have been blessed with loads of potted foliage. The turkish food isn’t particularly cheap but the variety and quality are second to none. A real hidden gem.”

The Troubadour, Kensington (Bar / Restaurant)
“This is one of my favourite bars in all of London. And possibly my favourite club too. It’s easily the best alfresco garden in west London. If you have romance on the mind and the summer sun is shining, get yourself to the Troubadour because you’re bound to succeed in your quest to woo your significant other. The food is pretty bog standard but that doesn’t really matter because there aren’t many bars in London as cool as this one. I recommend checking out the downstairs club once you’ve finished dinner (and a bottle of wine) in the garden. It’ll really seal the deal. Folk and funk tastic.”

Citrus, Mayfair (Restaurant)
“My girlfriend and I found this restaurant totally by accident whilst we were walking to the Shepherd’s Market area of Mayfair. And what a find! Quite the hidden gem. The atmosphere was slightly lacking but the food (mostly Italian) was really top notch, and fairly cheap considering its location right on Piccadilly (and the quality). The service was also excellent, all the staff there were really chatty, but overly so. And the wallpaper; how unusual! Worth a visit for that alone.”

Potions Cocktail Bar & Lounge, Hammersmith (Bar)
“My friend paid to hire the VIP section of this bar on Saturday night. As soon as we walked in we were hit by an over powering and intoxicating smell of floor varnish which stayed with us for the entire night. Drinks were hugely over priced with double measures sold as standard but without asking the customer first. As for cocktails ‘made to your specification’, I asked for a mere slice of lemon and was told they didn’t have any and when ordering Champagne there were only 3 glasses available. Both the men’s and women’s toilets were blocked and had to be mopped out on a regular basis. The £300 my friend had paid did not secure exclusive use of the VIP area and another party were booked into the same space. I would never recommend this bar to anyone and would dispute the claim that that it is a sophisticated stylish setting!”

The Clay Oven, Ealing (Restaurant)
“We went to the Clayoven in Ealing last night We sat near the bar area next to it is a cupboard. There were a lot of waiters They started bringing large sacks of food in on a trolley opened the cupboard and were wheeling sacks in and loading sacks into cubboards for about fifteen minutes The smell from the cupboard was not pleasant smelt like a bad toilet ...When they had finished that they then got the hoover out and started hoovering ! We had had our starter amid the smell, loading and ring of the hoover My onion bhajis were very salty, warm white house wine We asked for the bill as we decided against prolonging the ordeal and moved on to a restaurant down the road for our main meal They brought the bill no reduction and no apology Advice.......Give it a miss”

Picture of Cargo, Shoreditch, London

Cargo, Shoreditch (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Very disappointed with the managers decision. We've been coming to Cargo after work for a few weeks now - always returning as we have been allowed in with our Westie (office dog, so part of the work team really). We did ask if we could come in the first time and it's never been a problem. Suddenly tonight the manager (who couldn't be asked to get off his ... and speak to us himself) sent a bouncer over who could only give the answer "because the manager said guide dogs only". Upon approaching the manager about this "new" decision - told it's because of a licenSe - Totally false - It's ALWAYS at the managers discretion. Our dog is very well behaved and while at Cargo have been approached many times for photo's / to pet etc. (ps - we have NEVER taken her inside the bar - we've always kept her outside in the garden).”

“Quite frankly the best Indian restaurant hands down ever visited. Beats the likes of major michelin starred heavy weights in London with refined spicing and generous portion control. If you live anywhere near this place, i strongly recommend a visit! (Or takeaway!).”

Massala, Epsom & Cobham (Restaurant)
“We had a the most wonderful evening at Massala, despite a large party of fifteen dominating the restaurant the staff were attentive and went out of their way to ensure my wife and I received the very best service and were totally un-daunted, our courses arriving with impeccable timing- the standard of service clearly didn't waver at all. The Monk Fish Malabar as a main was worth a revisit in its own right with an impeccable flavour and melt in the moth consistency, truly unlike any seafood dish I’ve experienced in an Indian restaurant. The selection of naan breads were hot, fresh and deliciously soft and our waiter informed us that they are all cooked fresh to order in the kitchen- and the quality here was evident! Great too was the pan fried Okra ordered as a side with a remarkably smoky flavour, and the Kulfi which came as a delicious surprise at the end of the meal as compliments of the chef thanking us for with-standing any noise and distraction from the party- totally unnecessary as there was no need! But such a gesture completely exemplifies the character of the restaurant. I shall most definitely be returning and recommending Massala to friends and family.”

“I went to Massala for the first time last Friday and must say that I really enjoyed my time. The staff was attentive, the restaurant very beautifully decorated but what's most important, the food was absolutely delicious. I will definitely recommend the restaurant to all my friends and curry lovers.”

Loved

"Very rude management. Asked to leave the table when there were no queues. Then the manager was very arrogant and told us that if we wanted to leave a negative review we could do so. Poor customer service..." Which venue is this?
