Amber City Point, 1 Ropemaker Street, London, EC2Y 9AW (Map)

It's a Thursday night, a group of 8 lads have been at the pub all night to wet the babies head (a recent Dad amongst our ranks), the pub has closed and we're determined to kick on and find some fun in... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“My go-to spot as soon as I get off the tube at Old Street. The building itself is totally unique and the three large walls of glass are great for people watching and street art contemplation over a flat white coffee and almond croissant. The staff are always super friendly and I like the old NME magazines used for wallpaper upstairs near the toilet.”

“I have mixed feelings about the Clapham Grand. Went to watch the England Italy quarter final there last night and although I like the space and although they have the largest sports screen in Europe and although there was plenty of atmosphere, there were a few issues that dissuade me from going again. Firstly, the security. The perfunctory bag check at the front door did little to persuade me that they had our best interests at heart (the bouncer was more interested in a sexy woman walking passed). Then when I told them we'd reserved a table last week I was told that my name wasn't on the list and that I might find somewhere to stand upstairs (not cool!). And then, when a small group of Italian fans decided to let the world know of their presence rather than asking them to perhaps be a little less obvious or station security nearer to them for their own safety, the security just watched on whilst pints were thrown back and forth and only turned up when it got really nasty and punches were thrown. The abr also ran out of lager so sold everyone cans for £3.50 a pop, Ridiculous! Plus, they only served lager, no ales! How hard can it be?”

“A good selection of ales and bitters on tap, an unusual space with various levels all under a bridge (a secret hideaway if you're looking to hide from someone), and a lovely little alfresco terrace on the Thames. Quick service too.”

“I had a very enjoyable evening at The Argyle with colleagues after work. The sun was out so we had a few drinks on the terrace bar. There are two other floors with a nice looking cellar bar. They had an excellent range of lagers with Peroni, Esrtella and Krombacher. Overall, this is probably the best of the pubs I have seen in the Chancery Lane area and would recommend”

“I won't be going here again. I know this is a dive bar, but comon, the glasses weren't even clean. The urinals in the men's toilet were obviously leaking as there was water on the floor. Plus, I heard this place was known for cocktails. But I asked for an Old Fashioned and they looked at me like I was from another planet. The bar person then had to look up how to make it from their own cocktail menu and spent 10 mins making one of the worst Old Fashioned's I've ever had. And I've had a lot!!! There's so many better bars than this in Angel. Don't waste your time.”

“Not a bad little pub. Went here for a couple of pints and some food before going to the Walkmen gig around the corner at the Village Underground. The burger and chips were tasty, filling & not bad value at just under a tenner. Wait at the bat was long at times. Would recommend as a good meeting place.”

“Probably my favourite London restaurant. They've never let me down. My wife and I went yesterday for our 21st anniversary and enjoyed every bite. Wonderful food, full of flavour and every plate is a balanced experience. The sourdough bread with slightly burnt crust and spongy inside is worth the visit on its own. Our favourite dishes come from the wood oven but everything is great.”

Rada Krishna Bhavan, Tooting (Restaurant)
“This is the best Indian curry house in Tooting, which we all know is the best area of London for this type of cuisine (not Brick Lane, you know it's true!). The fact that the restaurant is ALWAYS full is as indication of the quality of the food. The menu is HUGE too so you will always find what you need. Had a massive meal with beers for 20 quid the other night. Plus, you can eat quite late if you want.”
