The Sun & Doves 61-63 Coldharbour Lane, Camberwell, London, SE5 9NS (Map)

Still one of the best gardens around but I have to say the quality of food has recently been pretty terrible and I don't eat here any more. Quite expensive. More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

The Good Mixer, Camden (Bar)
“A vaguely trendy spit-and-sawdust kind of bar, famed for being the one-time hang out for the stars of Brit Pop. Consequently you will find the clientele are mainly a bohemian / musician bunch, falling over the 2 pool tables and occasionally being violently ejected by the slightly unstable bar man. On the whole, a good atmosphere and a 'good mix' of drunkards and indie kids. ”

Cafe Sol, Clapham (Bar / Restaurant)
“First time I went to Cafe Sol was great, it wasn't busy, the food was amazing- huge portions that came out quickly. I went last night again, and unfortunately it was the total opposite, the place was packed, the staff stressed, the food took over 35 minutes to arrive, and when we got it, it was half the size of the previous time (same meals ordered). The meal was a huge disappointment, as we were really looking forward to going back. I think that they try to turn over tables far too quickly, so it seems that they are trying to rush you. Another negative point was that both myself and my partner were left with very "dodgy" tummy's that night and the next day!”

Ego, Crystal Palace & Norwood (Bar)
“This is a great place if you are looking for something without mirrors and prancing show ponnies!. The Bar staff are friendly, and very helpful. The crowd is mixed and has a good lesbian turn out on a friday night. Apart from the young notsosurewhatIwanttobewhenIgropup's, Ego is a great place to visit, oh yeah and the £5 cover charge is a little steep, but you don't get many options this far out.......”

Flask, Crouch End (Bar)
“Nice local pub, but gets far too busy on hot sunny days, resulting in service being slow and poor. Good selection of wines and beers, in my opinion Flask is a much better winter drinking hole as you get a more local vibe and can take refugee in some cozy little areas inside. In the summer it is over run by youngsters on their summer term break. Lovely location, but I am a bias Highgater!”

The Brown Dog, Barnes & Sheen (Bar / Restaurant)
“The food is now up and running and very nice too, its a limited menu but the quality is excelent, there is also a decent range of beers and largers on offer, a happy relaxed atmosphere where you can bring your mother for a glass of wine from the extensive wine list or watch the rugby with your mates. a great little pub!”

Fishworks, Marylebone (Bar / Restaurant)
“I've been to Fishworks in Marylebone a few times. The food is just ok. At that price, I would rather walk that few minutes to the Golden Hinde for their grilled fish or scampi and chips. Fishworks in Marylebone does good shellfish, but inconsistently. The first time I ate there, I felt it was rather pricey but good. The subsequent time I dined there, I had mussels in white wine. It was so full of garlic, I could not taste the mussels. I had a terrible bellyache after. Could be the garlic, could be the mussels. Why else would a chef drench mussels in so much garlic? Buy fresh fish and seafood from Fishworks, but dine there if you're loaded and curious. On busy weekends, expect them to run out of most of the menu, although they do try to substitute other types of seafood.”

The Bull's Head, Barnes & Sheen (Bar)
“I completely disagree with the other user who thought the service at the Bull's Head was unfriendly. My husband and I have been for dinner twice and found them extremely helpful and friendly. On one occasion we made a mistake and ordered the wrong meal. It was our fault, but they replaced it with the meal that we really wanted free of charge. Most of the dishes are gorgeous and good value. Loved the spicy vermicelli salad with chicken & prawns and the squid stuffed with vermicelli; the prawns in a garlic and pepper sauce were really fresh and flavoursome. Some of the meals are a little salty though or have too many flavours at once.”

Picture of The Eagle, Shepherds Bush, London

The Eagle, Shepherds Bush (Bar / Restaurant)
“Used be a great garden - until it turned into a giant ashtray. This is our local and, at first, the new management were a big improvement. Now the staff have become distinctly hostile, particularly to families who used to enjoy the garden until their allotted kicking-out time of 7pm. There is a noise problem for local residents caused by the revamping of the garden (this used to be very much an old gits' pub and they never ventured further than the bar) but it is generally caused by the large, rowdy groups who gather late in the evening. The rather frightening landlady clearly hates kids but she has badly misjudged her clientele - most locals are of the young family variety and there are precious few pubs around with a garden to patronise, hence the disappearance of the species from 'her' pub. As for the picnic rugs and games - they disappeared long ago, to be replaced by as many tables as they could cram in above the carpet of fag butts that covers what was once a lawn.”

Founders Arms, South Bank & Bankside (Bar)
“The most amazing view in town, away from noisy traffic, and with easy access via the Millennium bridge. When you combine this with good food and the splendid ales of the Young's range, you have one of my favourite pubs in London. Note that children are not welcome in the bar, but they can sit outside, and, presumably, in the restaurant. Sure, the Founders gets very busy at times, but the staff are able to cope.”

“This place is fantastic. Last Saturday, there were 15 of us for a birthday dinner in their private room. The food was excellent, everyone was served together, glasses of wine were never empty and all the staff were attentive, flexible and made it a really enjoyable evening. Great atmosphere and open until late. We'll definately be going again. Thanks!”

Le QuecumBar & Brasserie, Battersea (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“I can only say how disappointed in this venue I was . I had heard great things about Le Quecumbar and was really looking forward to celebrating my friends birthday here. As a pregnant women, bars and pubs aren't really my thing at the moment, so I was anticipating good food and good music/ entertainment at a cool venue. Well, the venue was great - but the band didn't turn up, the food was appalling and over-priced and the owner was so rude. I do hope this was a one-off bad night for them, but judging by the attitude of the owner once we complained and in her dealing with subsequent complaints I'm not confident that this is the case. I certainly won't be giving them a second chance. ”

Picture of Cubana, Waterloo, London

Cubana, Waterloo (Bar / Restaurant)
“I was very disappointed by Cubana. The staff have little or no concept of customer service and appear far more willing to serve the off-duty staff drinks than the customers who have been patiently waiting. When we went to Cubana we had a nearly-new pitcher taken away and binned without a word. Upon querying this we were met with rudeness and blank stares. It is fair to say I will never be going back to Cubana.”

Village Soho, Soho (Bar)
“The village is the hottest place in Soho. Yes the staff are arrogant, but it's the best place to meet new people, have fun, great for people watching, great strip shows, happy hour until eight... if you go to only one place in London, that's the one to go to!”

Jewel, West End (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Was a great fan of "The Spot" so my sister and i were a bit unsure about returning since the re-design and name change. We went last night and had a great time. Same Dj as before and Daves still bouncing about but long gone are the tight arses who would never offer to buy a drink. All in all i would say Jewel is now a classy place. We can't wait to go back.”
