Salvador & Amanda 8 Great Newport Street, Leicester Square, London, WC2H 7JA (Map)

Great restaurant, very swanky, candlelit for us as a couple. Slightly keen to get your food out to you quickly for my liking, but overall a great place. Quite loud but its a nice atmosphere. More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“Went there with a friend when I was visiting London. Thought the food was pretty good (especially the meatballs) and the smoothies were excellent. One of the waitresses was a bit stroppy though. And it does look a bit small from the outside, so I was relieved when we got in and saw all the space behind the kitchen.”

Blue Moon Thai Cafe, Kentish Town (Restaurant)
“The biggest problem with the Blue Moon Cafe is that it is actually *too* good. I would recommend their Drunken Noodles or Pad Thai; as both noodle arrangements are amazingly addictive. You can't really go wrong with ordering just about anything on the menu. I've only got delivery; but the atmosphere doesn't look too bad when you past by it. Seems like it could be a very intimate and sincere place to go for a little get-away from the stresses of work and other problems. Delivery has always been on-time; sometimes even earlier. Everything I've got from Blue Moon has been spectacular. You can't go wrong with getting a little something for takeaway (or sit down) from here. The delivery staff has been quite sincere; both for time and personal kindness. I would highly recommend this place for friends, families, and just people who have a hankering for Thai food..”

“Great bar! Strange it's not better known really but at least I can always get a seat. Good range of bottled ales and they import their own wine. Lovely owners too.”

Le Rendezvous, Clerkenwell (Restaurant)
“I love this place. With an authentic french feel about the decor, the staff are all happy and friendly, and the food is wonderful. The more said about the Cote de Boeuf (for two) and a bottle of Cotes de Rhone combination for lunch, the better. And topped off by the dessert of the day made by the hardest working Pastry chef in London :) Very easy to spend the whole afternoon in there with friends.”

“I totally disagree with Sophie, she must have gone to a different pub! I've been going here on and off for the last few years and have never experienced anything like she has. Regarding the music was she expecting the Apollo? That's round the corner. This is a local pub that caters for the those that work and live nearby fantastically. It's generally full most days of the week - does that not speak volumes. Very disappointed with her opinion, would have thought better of Fluid.”

“rude, didn't get to try the food, wouldn't give the staff the satisfaction of even serving me! Picked up my bags and spent my £40 down the road.”

“One of those places that looks nice than it is - and it looks really nice! The atmosphere is so casual you don't expect that high a standard of food or service. Well done Moomba. See you soon!”

“I went there last week to watch the goodness what a change a few months can make... The atmosphere was excellent and the bar staff very professional and friendly. I liked it so much that i have booked a table for all England world cup games..on doing so the Manager informed that I will recieve full table service on each event!!!! It cant get any better than that!!!”

The Globe, West End (Bar / Restaurant)
“The Globe is recently under new management and has had a bit of a transformation into a bistro style diner upstairs, while retaining its English bar roots on the ground floor. Decent, if not wildly exciting pub fare, spacious, clean and nice - and (when I visited) not too crowded for Covent Garden, which was huge bonus!”

Canteen, Waterloo (Restaurant)
“I've been to the other Canteens a few times but a few days ago came here for the first time. It's a very convenient location when you're in the centre doing the tourist thing, and the menu is full of crowd pleasers - there was something for my fussy parents, and fussier children. I had the potted duck which was savoury and well-seasoned, followed by a crispy chicken and chips with garlic mayonnaise - v indulgent but i was worn out from being tourist guide. it certainly did the trick! the kids were happy with the chicken too, and my parents loved the old fashioned puddings. I've not had a bad meal at any of the Canteens and this one is definitely among the better of the Southbank offerings.”

Lisboa Grill, Brixton (Restaurant)
“Formerly The Gallery, not sure anything other than the name has changed - which is a good thing. Great for takeaway, but head through the door and there's a whole restaurant tucked away. The grills are delicious and the chicken puts Nandos to shame. Excellent dining on a budget.”

Gallipoli Cafe & Bistro, Angel & Islington (Restaurant)
“I love Gallipoli! One of my favourite restaurants in London. Great tasting food and plenty of it. Sweet charming staff. Yes the tables are tight together but the draw of the food probably accounts for that. Last time my brother was there, David Schwimmer aka Ross Geller was turned away. Best to get there early or book for room in the inn.”

Kensington Square Kitchen, Kensington (Restaurant)
“A beautiful little cafe/bar hidden away in a fantastic square in Kensington. I came here with a friend when we were out shopping in the area and spent about a hour and half nattering, eating yummy homemade food and supping from the excellent wine list. Keep this one a secret though, it's not big enough for everyone to know about.”

The Blue Lion, Kings Cross (Bar)
“Really tasty and good quality food - but honestly, 7 quid for a sandwich is a bit over the top!! Free wifi and comfy, deep leather sofas make this a good working spot (especially since it's pretty dead between the lunch and dinner rush) - and staff don't seem to mind you hanging about for hours - even on one or two coffees alone.”

Wagamama, Soho (Restaurant)
“A nifty space hidden away in a basement off a side street off a back street off the main drag of Piccadilly. Even though it is a Wagamama, it’s still one of those need to know places, just because it’s not too easy to find. The portions were enormous, which gave my friend and I all the fuel we needed to get over our Carnaby Street shopping trawl. Great, colourful selection on the menu too.”

The Albert, Kingston (Bar)
“Popped in here one week night with a couple of lovely ladies I know who live locally and ended up taking part in the quiz. I cant vouch for the food but the drinks range is fairly decent; a sign of a good Young’s pub these days. It has an intriguing split level affair which needs to be seen. The pub quiz was quite difficult, but I’d still go back for more.”

The Loose Box, Westminster (Bar / Restaurant)
“A bar that i hadn't noticed pop up, until I ended up going there for afterwork refreshment nearly every week. A great addition to the bars of Westminster - it offers a relaxed and unprentious atmosphere and is always packed of an evening. Great for a cooling 6pm beer now the summer has hit.”
