Wagamama 4 Park Lane, Croydon, London, CR0 1JA (Map)

Have been to Wagamamas all over greater London over the years, and for the first time ventured into the Wagamamas in Croydon with a friend. What can I say it was the "worst" example of the franchise. I... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

Three Crowns, Stoke Newington (Bar)
“Not only is the food overpriced and below average, but the management of the pub itself leaves a lot to be desired. Ate there with friends a few weeks ago, and had roast pork that was more fat than meat, and not of the crackling kind. Decided to meet friends for a drink there this weekend as the pub seemed to be better. The barman refused to serve my friend because he had turned his back on him to speak to one of us while waiting at the bar! Obviously this was not intended to be rude as the aim was to get served, however the barman took offence, terse words were exchanged and the barman ended up throwing a pint of water over my friend and some of us too! And then had the cheek to ask us to leave as we were leaving. I asked for the manager and it turned out to be him - so no joy there. Luckily the bouncer was gratious on our departure and seemed embarrassed by the entire affair, but we certainly won't be going back.”

La Figa, Whitechapel & Wapping (Restaurant)
“Went to La Figa on a Friday night. What a disappointing experience. Food - It seems necessary to cover everything in a sea of olive oil. I ordered the seafood salad to start. Poor quality seafood with lettuce all sitting in half an inch of olive oil which I had to pour out into a side plate. Value for Money - Very poor. £6 for a glass of wine, £4 for an orange juice. What a rip off. They give you large portions of food to justify the very high prices on the menu. Service - Is fine but there is an over the top friendliness at first. If you spend lots of money and are fake in return you are fine. If you ask to share a dish with another diner in your partner you are met with frowns and scowls. Overall it is a poor place to eat or drink. I woke up this morning feeling I had been mugged. Particularly as 30 yards down the road is a Gordon Ramsey gastropub (The Narrow) which is cheaper and such a better standard. Have 2 average meals anywhere else rather than one poor one here.”

Camden Arts Centre Cafe, Hampstead (Restaurant)
“It's weird to find that a cafe in an art gallery has personality and atmosphere. The Camden Arts Centre starts at the cafe door and is a hub of the local area with people meeting and doing business in the cafe which is now very crowded at lunchtime. The coffee is fantastic and the food is good and wholesome with fantastic cakes to finish. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but it's always worth it.”

Cape, City of London (Bar)
“The food is vile. My compagnon had fish and chips which looked like they had been taken from a frozen dish and microwaved, fish was completely dry. My lamb burger (normally a good option!) was similarly inedible, even the potato wedges looked shrivelled and unappetising. Place was half empty, which says a lot. Avoid the food, but drinks are reasonably priced for the City. Staff are unresponsive - I think that's down to a language barrier. If all the other places closed in the area, and there is little choice at the moment, I would go back but not until then!”

“The Monk family make the pub what it is! Plus her fella is wicked cool! Craig looks a bit wierd but is great fun! I love the room upstairs and look forward to seeing Carlie and her fellow down my way in a little country pub! Best landpeople ever! Rich”

“Went here a few days ago for a big birthday dinner. What an awesome place! The manager and staff were friendly and attentive and even provided a personalised burger for the birthday boy! They put the burger on their menu for the night and it tasted fantastic! They probably need a little more practice at massive parties of people like ours but as the food came out slightly slow but to be fair it was worth the wait. Everything on the menu is fairly priced and looks amazing. Apart from the food this place has a great atmosphere and a lovely decor, perfect for drinks after work or at the weekend. I'm really glad i don't live far away from this pub as i will definitely be going back again and again!”

GAY Bar, Soho (Bar / Club)
“Great bar, the atmosphere is lively and the staff is (more often than not) very polite. Dance floor upstairs could be bigger. One important flaw must be that they only play music videos, ie if an artist has released a song without a video, they won't/can't play it. Or so I've seen, I've only gone there on Saturdays. Other than that, I highly recommend the place as a "starter" for a good-gay night out!”

Lyric Tavern, Soho (Bar)
“The Lyric was the best pub in London, when I lived there many's a 'lost weekend' was spent having the craic, talking to Ritchie and the other staff. Getting back from the toilet was like scaling the Eiger (after several pints). All sorts mixing, from young lads to tuxedo and black dress wearing theatre goers. A great loss to the city!!”

“The wife and I stumbled upon this gem while looking to kill time before a show at the Peacock Theatre nearby. We have not had a more wonderful time in a pub in a long time. The governor was kind and witty, a far cry from what the previous reviewer had seen. The way pubs change hands these days, the ownership likely changed since then. The governor allowed me to sample a few of the nice selection of bitters, and I settled for a pint of Woodforde's Wherry, which was absolutely delightful. We returned after the show, mostly so I could get a pint of Tim Taylor Landlord and enjoy a bit more banter with the landlord and other locals. 6 out of 5... can't wait to go back!!!”

“Truly poor service (exceptionally slow service & argumentative manager) mixed with very average food has thankfully become a bit of a rare thing... but hey, then there's Normandy! I am rather surprised Time Out has given it such raving reviews. The manager overheard us commenting on how slow the service was and came to apologise as they were extremely busy. They must do take-away as the dining room was mostly empty. The medium rare steak of one of our party was charred. The manager, straight out of the Faulty Tower School of Catering, cut the steak over our friend's shoulder, thought that it was perfectly cooked and then proceeded to show the meat to other guests to get their opinion. No answers... Awkward... and embarrassing... He was happy to make another one but it would come out exactly the same way. It soon became too tense for comfort and the manager walked away from our table. And so we walked away from his restaurant. Shocked that places like this still exists.”

Ego, Crystal Palace & Norwood (Bar)
“I had not been to Ego for about two years, until just recently. When I previously went it was quiet and not the same as it used to be when it was known as Southern Pride. However, I have just recently gone back in the last few weeks and Ego has since been taken over by a new manager, Steve. And I must admit that it was so much better. I went to Ego with a group of friends, and we all had a great time. The music was so much better, it was a mixture of classic R&B tunes along with great new tracks, and some Hip Hop. I think that this is not every week, but once a month? Ego has live PA's, and has had the likes of Kelli Le Roc. There is a really nice conservatory, which leads out onto a nice garden, so smokers do not have to leave the venue, which is also a very big plus for smokers. I think Ego caters for all. The staff are extremely friendly which is always nice. The atmosphere was buzzing that night and I could see that....this once busy and very popular venue, is now on the up. I would heavily suggest this venue as a night out. I know that it is a little out of the way, but it is well worth the visit and I am hoping that it will become as popular as it was when it was Southern Pride.”

SW9 Bar Cafe, Brixton (Bar)
“This place is overpriced and the service is poor. I strongly recommend against eating here in particular. The food took a while to arrive, perhaps due to the loud, continual bickering among the kitchen and waiting staff. Their expensive yet mediocre English breakfast came without any toast; when I asked for some I was told it would be an extra £2.50. I was also informed that toast used to be included but that the manager actually removed it recently in order, it was implied, to increase his profit margins. This seems to illustrate well the cynical nature of this establishment. There are better places - go to them instead.”
