Melati 21 Great Windmill Street, Soho, London, W1D 7LQ (Map)

Although it looks like every other restaurant, the food in Melati is absolutely fantastic and very reasonably priced. If you want really good Malaysian food, then this is the place. Try the Singapore Laksa,... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“My wife and I chose this restuarant because of its wonderful location, we thought it woould make a nice spot for an anniversary meal. We found that the service was unacceptably negilent. We waited for over 30 minutes for a waiter to take our order (drinks and food) and another 20 minutes for the bill. Another table waited even longer for their main meal! This was a midweek evening and the restuarant was not even filled. Unless you enjoy being ignored and wondering if you have gone invisible, then I would not bother with this place. The appalling service overshadows any merits that this restuarant has to offer.”

Kanchans (Gants Hill), Ilford & Walthamstow (Restaurant)
“Went to Kanchans restaurant in Ilford for a family meal at the weekend. The service and attitude of the staff is disgraceful they were rude and unhelpful and could not wait for us to vacate the table even though we had pre-booked. The food was average but the fact the staff had no concept of good customer service means none of us will be returning to this place again.”

“Lovely interior, shame about the service. Waiters were not as attentive as you'd expect and the food was nothing special. Personally a trip to China town would have been appetising.”

“Save your money. Go elsewhere until the owners sort this place out. Management utterly rude and unprofessional. Manager needs to be fired and replaced. An additional unexpected guest in our party was humiliated and refused entry even though the restaurant was half empty and the waiting staff could see no issue. When politely asking the reason, the manager became aggressive and threatened to bar us from the place! We left our meals unfinished and left without paying service charge which he said he didn't care about because service was "optional anyway". How about non-existent. Ridiculously patronising and unacceptable behaviour. Food is so-so - people go for the buzzy atmosphere, late opening hours and nice waiting staff. Give it a miss - so many better places these days.”

The Triangle Bar & Restaurant, Finsbury Park (Bar / Restaurant)
“If you’re in need of a night out at a fabulous place with guaranteed fabulous food and atmosphere and lashings of individuality, you need to get to The Triangle. This popular little hideaway is an absolute gem of a restaurant that nestles snugly between Crouch End and Finsbury Park and the moment you walk through the door your every sense is stimulated. A unique and absolutely stunning bar/restaurant run by Aziz Begdouri, I had the pleasure of being introduced to the place 5 years ago, when it first opened, and, quite simply, I haven’t found better. The décor is warm, inviting, a seamless blend of art from all over the world, lush plants, fountains in the windows (yes, really), a roaring fire in the winter and in the summer a simply exquisite garden that features a kind of. …well, I don’t even know that there’s a word for it, you’ll just have to go and see for yourself. Oh, and did I mention the upside-down bedroom on the ceiling…?”

“Great place, only been there once and i'm dyin to go there again, why sit at home on a sunday complaining of a hangover when you can get straight back up on the horse and do it all again. Strippers, titty cams, bag of cans and drunken women. What more do you want?”

So Bar Richmond, Richmond & Kew (Bar)
“So Bar Richmond is such a great little place tucked away just off the high street and out of the way of all the high streets bimbling squawking teenage traffic on their way between Edwards or Henrys. Our instant relief in finding it off the well worn track was provided by a cool understated mix of boho chic and frugal white modernism. The bar’s good vibe comes initially from the gorgeous vivacious team there who will ensure that once you are tucked into a little cosy corner somewhere, their attentive table service will ensure you don’t need to clutter up the bar or get under their feet! For such a compact bar there’s a huge choice of drinks for most tastes and the popularity of the cocktails has a lot to do with the 100% fresh fruit content as well as the range. Nevertheless, their resident mixologist should always be ready to customise for you. It’s a shame it isn’t bigger and at busy times you might need a little patience. But then you wouldn’t be able to lounge so pleasantly and cosily, away from all else.”

“Woke up in the morning after only 3 hours sleep and my mate brought me my medicine - a caffeine tablet and a shot of sambuca. Coming from Sydney, I had never seen anything like this place it was unreal, from being served a minimum of 3 drinks in a plastic bag, to seeing everything from comedy, porn, golf to vomit, plasticbags on peoples heads, and beer races and then coming outside and realising it is only 4pm and daylight. What a quality day. I would recommend it to anyone. Bloody ripper! Worth way more than what you pay for!”

Blue Bar, Knightsbridge (Bar / Hotel)
“Great decor but uncomfortable seats that are too laid back - you're either leant forward like a nervous child or leant back away from the group! Service good, staff eager to please and attentive without being intrusive. Ridiculous prices including a service charge....£27 for a glass of laurent perrier and a tanqueray and tonic would be laughable if i hadn't already paid for it. Pleasant, relaxed vibe, clientele a mix of tourists and businessmen as expected. Nibbles are worth mentioning - nice selection of crispbreads and crudites were brought over immediately. Worth popping in for one drink en route elsewhere (we went to Petrus, which was excellent), but not worth staying for a second round.”

“I went to this restaurant tonight with a USA guest. We were assigned a table that was so tight we could not fir in to the chairs. At this point the restaurant was a quarter full. We complained and were then assigned to a table at the back of the restaurant and were afforded no service. We left but the lady assigning tables refused to speak to us. As a local i was very embarrassed and will never go again.”

The Norfolk Arms, Kings Cross (Bar)
“I went and tried the new Norfolk Arms and was pleasantly surprised. It seems that whatever teething problems there were have been sorted out and the staff were really friendly and informative. They explained the style of the place, the food and even recommended some fantastic dishes. The Seafood soup was to die for! The pigeon breast with chocolate and raspberries was just naughty. The chocolate fondant was seriously amazing. I would highly recommend going to this pub and ask the staff for recommendations. The whole evening was great and my friends and I are definitely going back seeing as they change the menu regularly.”
