Mr Lawrence 389 Brockley Road, Brockley, London, SE4 2PH (Map)
This is the BEST bar in South East London. Fact. It's right near Crofton Park train station, it has the Rivoli right over the road, AND it has it's very own off license next door. How cool? Wooden tables,... More

The White Horse, Brixton (Bar)
“Love: the great decorations, the massive portions of pub grub, the 25-35 age range, the fab tunes, the sexy people
Don't love: the walk from Brixton tube station, the wait at the bar (staff aren't too quick), the toilets”

The World's End, Camden (Bar)
“This is THE Camden meeting place. This is where you go before you go on to somewhere else because (a) it's right next to Camden town tube station, (b) it's inexpensive, (c) it's expansive, and (d) there's loads of sexy rock & roll boys and girls there. The ultimate pre-gig swift-pinter.”

The Phoenix, Victoria (Bar / Restaurant)
“Even though this nifty little boozer is just a couple of minutes walk from Victoria it's backstreet vibe means it has an 'in the know' popularity. I've been there during the day for a meeting (great wifi) and it was lovely and quiet. We felt really relaxed and the homely decor made it feel like some country mansion kitchen. And then came the lunchtime rush. Obviously a favourite with many a local worker. At least it gave the place a different kind of atmosphere. A great pub for all times of the day”

Gaucho Piccadilly, Mayfair (Bar / Restaurant)
“As a younger female working in the city, I was worried that Gaucho would be too macho for me. I was pleasantly suprised, it is sexy, sophistocated and a great place to be taken on a date.
I cant remember recieving such friendly and attentive service and the Ceviche and Steaks were beautiful”

“Slightly more expensive than your average pub food but well worth the money. Fantastic feed! 5* for the food alone.”

The Victoria by Paul Merrett, Barnes & Sheen (Bar / Restaurant / Hotel)
“I decided to go back to The Victoria recently after a disastrous first experience.
Had a much better time, although still not impressed. The service was slow and the staff cold and seemingly unconcerned. The food was OK, but I expect more than OK when they charge 7 pounds for a cheeseboard!! Atmosphere typical of a gastropub i.e. none.”

Underworld, Camden (Bar / Club)
“I love coming here. It's the ultimate grungy indie, gothy, rocky, dancey, kind of club. No windows, awful toilets, grumpy bar staff, and loads and loads of top tunes. Fantastic. Filled to the brim with tasty crumpet too.”

The Camel & Artichoke, Waterloo (Bar)
“Shhhh, keep it a secret. This is possibly one of the best pubs in London. It cant be too much of a secret because it's always busy in there. SO much better than the other pubs around Waterloo (aside from the White Hart and the Kings Arms). A great place to settle in with a big crowd upstairs if you get there early enough.”

The Three Bells, Heathrow Airport (Bar / Restaurant)
“Obviously, because everyone is excited about flying out of London, this pub/restaurant has a great atmosphere. Loads of space for bags and lounging around. It feels like someone's front room almost. And the food is better than expected. All wines by the glass too so you don't miss your flight. We ate there and almost missed our flight because we were so relaxed.”

Zizzi, West End (Restaurant)
“Two pieces of advice here: (1) only ever go if you have some kind of coupon, voucher or special offer to take advantage of; (2) get there very early. With the Royal Opera House right across the road it gets very busy, very quickly and the food, although very good and full of great flavours, takes ages to to arrive.”

The Mitre, Notting Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“Friendly and knowledeable staff, fantastic winter main courses and two of my favourite foods combined in a dessert - marmalade and custard in the bread and butter pudding. And the lamb! Is it because they are so cute that they taste so good or is it the genius of the chef, combining flavours of lard, bacon, peas and jus to baste the succulent lamb in?”

The Riverside, Vauxhall & Oval (Bar)
“It's all about the location and the decor in this place. It's a bugger to find but as it's right next to the river, it's a great place to bask in the Thames-side sun in the summer (or shack up inside with a roast in the winter). It's bright, and airy and absolutely massive, with loads of different seating options to keep all and sundry happy. I came hear with a couple of Irish lasses and we ordered a bottle of Malbec and had one of the funniest nights of our lives. A really chatty kind of place.”

Dingwalls, Camden (Bar)
“What a find this place is. I never really knew about it until I went to see The Filthy Dukes play live there. It's set up in such a way so that everyone gets to see the stage with lots of different levels for people to stand, or rave on. The bar is a bit of a scrum and the cloakroom is a joke (leave the coat at home) but there's plenty of room in a gig and the sound system is fairly decent.”

The Ice Wharf, Camden (Bar / Restaurant)
“During the summer I can see this being a hot bed of activity what with such an expansive outdoors area right next to the canal. During the winter months though, it's just a good place to meet up for some cheap booze (good guest ales on tap) before nipping off to Dingwalls or Proud Camden for a gig.”

Wahaca, Shepherds Bush (Restaurant)
“Brilliant! Simply brilliant. This chain has been winning award ever since it arrived in London and it's easy to tell why. It's the whole experience of the restaurant that real draws you in. Even down to the little touches like creating it's own mini-magazine and handing out chilli seeds for customers to take home. The variety on the menu is mind blowing with Mexican street food made the way it's supposed to be made. True value for money. The pork scratchings are SO addictive too.”
