“Although it took us tourists a minute to find, it was well worth it! The service was wonderful and friendly. The show was great- hula hoops, singers, strip-teases, and contortionists! The crowd was an upscale bunch, but they were friendly and in good spirits. We all got up on the stage and danced at the end of the show to the mix of big band and 50's music. The experience was made even better by a very generous server who sat me and four friends at a table even though he wasn't supposed to do so unless we were ordering food. When we made it clear that we couldn't afford to buy a three course meal that was 50 pounds a person, he took pity on us and sat us at a table. Although the table had an obscured view of the stage (there was a mirrored pole blocking center stage) we still got a heck of a show, and lovely waitresses dressed in corsets with feathers in their hair serving us drinks. Five stars, great night out! Definitely recommend this place!”

“The price of the food was a bit high, but as it is a touristy area, we didn't mind. However, service was slow, the food was cold when it arrived, the beer was warm, and the waiter serving us was rude up to the point of asking inappropriate questions. He only later apologized when he realized he wanted a tip. I would not recommend going here, as there are other restaurants with higher quality staff and better food in the area.”

“Last time I went was the last time due to this experience: I went in with a friend. Sat down and read through the menu, which was one side breakfast and the other lunch meals. We were the only people in the restaurant and we waited and waited while four members of staff stood behind the counter polishing cutlery, arranging glasses and generally clanking and bashing around. Eventually one came over, poised to order he jumped in first "sorry you can't sit there is reserved" no apology or politeness, it seemed absurd as the restaurant was empty and the exact same tables were everywhere, he asked us to choose any other table then walked off. We did this reluctantly. We had now been in there for 15 minutes, in all this he still didn't ask if we wanted anything. So my friend went to the counter and asked if we could be served, they all glared and the same man said 'you have to come to the counter for service' and carried on clanking cutlery at a deafening volume. By this point we felt totally unwelcome. After deciding to try and weather this bad experience we stayed however and got back up to order, both going for the breakfast only to be told by a really abrupt waitress, 'we don't do that during the afternoon' ..I explained it is unclear as it's on the menu and I'd had it before mid-afternoon. She just replied with 'well we don't' do it now'. All the while the other staff members just glared. Not once did they apologise for the confusion or ask if we wanted a drink or if we would like to choose anything else. We were so upset we just left. I live local and sadly know that many of my friends have had similar service. It's a real shame as the Oval lounge could be so much better. It has the advantage of being the only restaurant/bar of it's type in the vicinity and therefore seems to forget that customers have feelings and are the ones paying. Trying to be balanced the food is decent, the sunday lunch outstanding but it's loud and cramped and hot in there. There is one lovely, super-attentive waitress who is totally out of place amongst the rest of the sullen, hassled looking crew. Avoid this place it doesn't deserve your custom.”

“A regular to Drummond St and this particular restaurant for very many years. The food always good, value exceptional. However, over the last few years prices have risen considerably so the ‘value’ element has disappeared. More annoying is the introduction of a Bill (admittedly a while back) containing a list of the items from the menu but no prices. A tick indicates which items you have been charged for. Then a total appears at the bottom. Queried the bill when visiting with a friend this week. The waiter brought a calculator, tapped out some figures (contained in his head) and said “See, correct!” The difference between our(rough calculation) and his, was explained by the tip, added without our consent and missing from the space for ‘Service’ on the Bill. A pity. It was good while it lasted but I won’t be going again. And yes, it can be difficult to have a conversation as, like many modern restaurants, the décor does nothing to dampen noise, but rather the opposite, with sound bouncing off the Spartan floors and walls.”

“Love the layout and atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is excellent and there is a good selection of wines to accompany your meal. The menu is changed regularly and their special offers represent good value for money. I recommend it.”

“We were lucky to find that we'd arrived during the Pizza Happy Hour 12-1, 2 pizzas for the price of one. My companion had the appriately named Napoleon Bonaparte, ham mushrooms and black olives, whilst I had pepperoni. Excellent quality and pipng hot. The desserts were works of art.We had cheesecake and tart tatin, served on a slate, all washed down with a carafe of Merlot. £38 for the two of us. We'll be going back!”

“I was introduced to this place by a friend of mine who works in the locality. We both enjoyed a pie dish each and rated it highly. I chose the one with the venison and gammon and it was prepared beautifully, the meat was succulent and tender and the accompaniments were very good too. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the evening and we hope to return in the near future with friends.”

“We go there often for Sunday lunch which is lovely and very tasty. You do need to book early though as it does tend to get rather full. The staff are very friendly and the pub has greatly improved since the new management, who are working hard to make the best of this pub.”

“Really surprised that this venue hasn't been reviewed yet! Came here on Friday night and had a brilliant time. We had a meal in the restaurant (I had the ribs which were amazing)the food costs about the same as competitiors such as GBK etc but the quality is certainly there! Then we had a few drinks in the bar (can reccomend the cocktails -this lot knew what they were doing) and went on to bowl which was great fun. Could imagine this venue would work well for a special occassion or a nice date!”

“Was at this bar last week Thursday and had a really nice time celebrating a friend's birthday. The staff had put up balloons to help us celebrate without us even asking which was a nice touch. The music was good and everyone was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely consider going there again!”

The Popeseye Steak House Restaurant (Putney), Putney (Restaurant)
“Very disappointing. Lived in Putney for a while now but had never gone into Popeseye as I thought it looked dingy from outside. Checked out some positive reviews and thought I would give it a go. The interior of the restaurant is very plain, not necessarily a bad thing if the food and service is very good, however it wasn't. Informed on sitting down that this restaurant does not take card payments which precipitated a walk to the nearest cash point - (10 mins there and back). On getting back the waitress takes our order, I go for the 12oz fillet, wife goes for the 8oz sirloin. Meals arrive in quick time on chipped plates. Steaks are totally unseasoned, wife's sirloin is ok but plain. My fillet has fat running through it - unusual for fillet, again no seasoning. No enquiry from waitress if food was ok even when clearing table with plenty of waste on plates. Seemed expensive for what it was and left in a hurry and will not be going back. Not recommended.”

Elysee Restaurant and Roof Garden, Bloomsbury (Restaurant)
“We went to the Elysee last night (8th Oct) in a group. The place is great, wonderful food I have never kebabs that tasted so good, the rest of the group all loved their food as well. There is an unbelievable three piece band with a singer that sounded like a cross between Michael Buble and Stevie Wonder. It looked like a different band were going to start when the first band finished but me and my bloke had to catch our train. Just two words of advice, although low lighting is supposed to create an atmosphere it was so dark around the stage that we couldn't see the band only their little music lights so put some lights on. teh second piece if advice is get a reasonable price Cava on the wine list. Great food, service and music so I give them 9.5 out of 10.”

“Horrible place, do not go here! Queues of over 30 mins for the bar. Rude bar staff who shout at the customers and a gm on a powertrip who seemed to shout and be very aggressive with customers for no reason at all. Avoid at all costs!”
