Giraffe never fails to deliver. What was a change of venue for a breakfast meeting with colleagues has now become a favourite haunt. Friendly staff, quick service and excellent hearty food. More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

Gloucester Arms, Kensington (Bar)
“After strolling the streets of Kensington with four of my friends looking for a meal that didnt involve a loan or credit card downpayment before a gig at the Royal Albert Hall we stumbled upon the Gloucester Arms on Gloucester Rd. On first impressions the atmosphere looked good, it was busy and boasted "traditional pub food" so we thought we had lucked out. The food was on the most part under a tenner for a main so we got a round in and ordered the food, 3 burgers and scampi and chips. Firstly the beer and we tried 3 different types were all very unpleasant and tasted far from normal. The staff were unfriendly and the service was far from good. When the food finally arrived we were all served about 5 - 10 minutes apart and was served on small side plates which was the first bad sign...... "have i ordered from the kids menu"? NO apparantly not. Now at £10 the Big Ben burger (served with egg, onion rings and cheeese) was small, had no egg and came with id say 7 sloppy aged chips, this applied to all four meals. When I asked the barmaid about the lack of egg the answer was "you should of been told when you ordered" "I wasnt informed?" Her reply, "oh well"..... That was unexpected. I've never written a restaurant review in my life but this shoddy, grimy, uncomfortable venue is one to avoid, mark my words. So to summerise, even for a beer this pub is not an option unless you stick to bottles and like i say food wise your better off getting a Burger King, it will prove better prepared, taste better and cost half the price”

“Big, hearty turkish meals or traditional breakfasts and well-priced. This family run cafe is friendly, efficient and so good if you're in need of a decent feed to perk you up. I go here regularly and never once have I left dis-appointed, un-welcome or hungry!”

“Love this place. Don't go often but when I do, it's always good. Very reliable Sunday lunch, always great. Nice to have the huge space they do too, inside and out so you can wander about and you're not sitting on top of the bar. Friendly, informal, looks good too. It's a pub I go back to.”

“Canteen is an easy choice and usually produces mediocre and relatively satisfying food. I do feel, however, that rhere are so many better restaurants in Spitalfields that should be tried out ahead of this one. I would therefore advise looking around before settling on Canteen.”

“First when I phoned for a reservation I spoke to a women that sounded very unprofessional, with only a small amount of information provided. I decided to take a chance anyway and booked a table for Saturday night for my husband and myself. We were greeted by a very smiley man that took us straight to our table, the place was packed and the noisiest place I have ever been, we could not have a conversation due to the noise from the bar. We sat at our table for about 10 minutes before the waiter came to our table to ask what we'd like to eat, we hadn't even ordered a drink at this time, but ordered our meals along with our drinks. The meal I originally order had sold out, the waiter kindly pointed to the women that had had the last of the pork, who in turn looked slightly embarrassed! Another 10 minutes before our drinks arrived. The meals took so long we actually considered cancelling, going home and watching X Factor! The meals come, we both ordered steak with garlic and butter sauce, i asked for my steak to be well done, but I'm sure it had a pulse! the sauce was peppercorn, but the waiter had disappeared so couldn't get it rectified. We called over a waiter and just asked for the bill, again he went missing so we left the cash and the restaurant!! Would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning!!!”

“Live locally and love Thai food but had never been to this restaurant before. Used the Booking facility on this website for the 1st time too, to book a table for me and my girlfriend and it worked! The restaurant was perfect, with fantastic service. Greeted and seated in the bar area where we enjoyed a couple of cocktails and then led upstairs to a window seat (as requested). The food was superb - faultless. Service continued to be great and to top it off at the end when we couldn't finish the mains, they offered to put the food in take-away boxes. Lovely. One of the best things about the whole experience was the view of the river, very different to anything else along the Thames. Looking out we could have been in Paris. very romantic and worth every penny.”

“We are a group of normally easily pleased 55-62 year olds who often travel and holiday together. We were in London for 'rugby and shopping'. We spotted the restaurant on the Saturday morning and the ladies decided that we should book a table for our eight, plus two friends who live locally, for the evening. We informed the restaurant staff that the majority of us would be choosing from the 'set' menu recommended on the display board outside. We arrived a few minutes before our friends, and were seated and served drinks (A couple of bottles of wine and some rather expensive beers). It was not until after our friends arrived and were also served drinks that the problems started. We were presented with the menus and informed that four of the main course choices on the 'set' menu , "were off". Had we known this before ordering the drinks, we would have gone elsewhere. However, being reasonable people, we persevered, with more than half of us having to resort to the Ala Carte menu (No discretional discounts offered- and we were informed that the starters we wanted from the set menu would be charged at ALa carte price). We all ordered the same fishcake starter, but we got several different versions of it. Some cold, some warm, some overdone, some underdone, some soft, some leathery. All were on a bed of noodles of varying temperature, and all had a dollop of chilli dipping sauce, probably straight from the bottle. Main course was a disaster. Best dish was the cod, haddock and chips chosen by three of us. Fish, hot and well cooked, but the oven style chips, dry and tasteless. Two salmon dishes, one hot, but the other needing to be sent back (Cold). Calf's liver, a particular favourite of his, was chosen by one of our party, to be told as some of the other main meals were being brought to the table, that the restaurant had run out of mashed potato, and had to make do with chips (as it turned out, similarly dry and tasteless). The quality of the rest of the meal also left much to be desired and much of it remained uneaten. The other four 'meals' consisted of what appeared to be microved meals one might buy at the local discount freezer shop. A chicken joint covered with what looked like condensed soup. These arrived with the now expected variance of temperature, two of them needing to be returned because of lack of heat. None of these meals were finished, with more left than eaten. Whilst tackling the main courses, after said returns etc., we were asked if we were happy. We were far from happy. Spoilt the whole evening.”

“This is my meeting place for a million different reasons, meeting hot dates, girly gossips, parents over, business meetings, solitary lunches and somewhere to take the kids when i'm babysitting but FM is the ultimate hangover destination! I love the pizza there - it's the best pizza in London that's for sure!”

“I'm not sure what it's like at night (although I have heard it has some top jazz), but during the day this is a great place for a bit of wifi, a coffee, and some cool surroundings. The layout is quite modern and really bright. Great for gazing out of the window.”

“Two reasons I love this pub: the massive beer garden out the back (deceptively narrow this pub); and the fine selection of ales on tap. Yeh, even girls can like ales you know! I also like how the interior is quite plush. Nice one Young's for bringing South West London yet another stylish pub that locals like myself actually want to hang out in.”

McQueen Lounge Bar & Club, Shoreditch (Bar / Club)
“There's no denying that the cocktails are some of the best cocktails in Shoreditch, but the decor and the whole 'City' vibe is just a little out of place in Shoreditch. This bar needs to be about half a mile down towards Liverpool Street, Moorgate and Bank. It's meant for suits and people who get the Essex train into London for a night out. Brown leather absolutely everywhere - come on people! Looked good in the 90s. The previous incarnation - Tabernacle? - was much better. What happened to the disco floor downstairs? Now it's just pictures of naked ladies and shot girls wandering about. Trashy. Still, good place to satrt an evening for a quiet cocktail.”

“Possibly the best new bar in all of London, and easily the best hidden gem bar in London. The cocktails are amazing - real alchemy sh*t, these guys know their stuff - and if you like quirky bars with hidden dens and Victorian charm, you'll love this bar. Old school vibe in modern central London.”

“I had a most enjoyable evening here the other night with a beautiful woman. We finished up here after closing all the other bars in the area and this bar had the right kind of atmosphere for us to carry on. It stays open late so it's popular with student, foreign visitors going out in the Leicester Square area and anyone who works in the hospitality industry. So quite an enjoyable mix of folk and a funky mix of music. £3.50 a piece or a bottle of beer - not bad for the area.”
