“Coming from an Indian background and a few of my family members are involve in spice and catering services in India. I know what I am expecting when I am in Indian restaurants the balance of spice should be spot on for your taste buds. I moved to Lancaster Gate a few weeks ago and tried most of the surrounding Indian restaurants, I regret to say none of the restaurants met my taste buds criteria until I visited Noorjahan 2 last night. The food was mouth watering and my taste buds were in ecstasy, and the service was swift, prompt and excellent. We met the person responsible for making our taste buds jump around he is called Harun, a very nice gentle man. Harun thank you for a wonderful evening and we will see you soon. Anyone who is reading this review are dared to try and send their taste buds to HEAVEN...”

La Buvette, Richmond & Kew (Bar / Restaurant)
“Great find in the centre of Richmond, owned by a couple of gents with serious London restaurant CV's. I came across this intimate place by chance with a friend. Excellent value lunch deals on authentic bistro cooking. We had to eat inside as it was packed in there pretty courtyard on a Wednesday lunch time. The evening looks a little more expensive, but I imagine worth booking. Lunch cost us about £50 for two including house wine, 3 courses and service ! Not bad considering the level of service and food their offering. Long live the independents.”

Janet's Bar, Kensington (Bar)
“At £6.50 for a gin & tonic, you can forget it. When we asked to have the bill of £29 for 1 x gin & tonic, 2 x rum & cokes and a daiquiri broken down the staff tried to justify it with free music and the fact it was a singles bar. We didn't know it was a singles bar and if you're charging £6.50 for a single G & T, it's not free music. It's got a nice boho vibe but the drinks came in plastic glasses.”

“Was there 2nite, been ages and there is a reason why it has been so long. Dont bother. Worked in a few bars in my life and i would never dream of serving a dog the way in which the bar staff pull a pint. Maybe its me but hey 3£.50 a pint? not a please or thank you and dirty smelling toilets? Have a drink and see for yourself. ”

The Vineyard, Angel & Islington (Bar)
“The Vineyard is a nice pub to go to in the summer and has a nice interior. There are also tv's to watch football on but the food was awful. I went there when it was called the Garden and it was ok but when I went a few days ago with my wife she had a plastic flavoured dish supposedly stroganof and I had a steak pie that had very tuff pastry.”

The Canonbury, Angel & Islington (Bar)
“I'm so sad to hear the Canonbury has closed (perhaps it has re-opened since the last review of May 2007?). I lived and worked at the Canonbury between 1986-1989. It had just re-opened after being completely overhauled and had the look of a winebar. It was a struggle to get the patrons to return after it's history as a long-standing tenency but people eventually did return. It was really a wonderful place; the gardens were always jam-packed from Thursday nights to Sunday afternoons with families and young people and there was a stream of really good staff come through during my years there. I happened to be in London in the summer of 2005 and was so very sad when I went, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, only to find it almost completely deserted and the interior, dark and run-down; completely gutted once again (this time a return to a traditional pub). Times change! Upper Street is so different form the cool, bohemian place I knew so well. It's now awash with up-scale shops and fancy cafes that seem now to be the place to go on Saturday afternoons. I really hope that at some point the pub will reopen and regain it's vitality as a friendly and welcoming neighbourhood meeting place. ”

“Great family boozer with a friendly atmosphere. Also great for watching sports if there's a big game on. Thai food is excellent whether eaten in the bar or restaurant, the chef is really good with daily specials and some seasonal specialities.”

Still Luigi's, Dulwich (Bar / Restaurant)
“Myself and 15 others went to Luigi's for a birthday celebration in Jan 08. We booked the dining area downstairs to ourselves - we had a brilliant time! The staff were very polite and friendly - great customer services and the food was absolutely delicious. The background music was good also. There is always room for improvement and I would recommend that the restaurant be redecorated to suit the vibrant atmosphere and lively personalities of the staff. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend.”

Gaucho Piccadilly, Mayfair (Bar / Restaurant)
“I was part of a party of 14 that dined at the Picadilly Gaucho recently and whilst I have always found Gaucho in Richmond to be first class I was very disappointed with the Piccadilly restaurant. We had a shared menu and the portions were very small compared to Richmond, chicken came out undercooked and pink on the inside - 20 minutes later with the rest of the mains completed out came more chicken - black! Desserts followed but again portions very small. Ended up having a dispute with the management as we were not happy with the bill of £48 each plus drinks for a poor meal. What added to the displeasure was the inordinant amount of time we had to wait for our food - we were seated at about 10.15 and mains arrived at 11.45.... Overall would not recommend this venue for larger parties and based on personal experience if you want to pay £48 a head and leave the restaurant full and happy then head for Richmond!”

“Sunday carvery used to be great, but it's gone right down hill, the food is now rubbish, the tables were not cleaned in between use, the woman carving the meat was useless and didn't have a good attitude. I won't use the place again! ”

Studio Valbonne, Soho (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“My two friends were celebrating their 18th and 21st birthday at Studio Valbonne. We had a guest list and were dressed accordingly. However they only let half of us in! Said there were too many of us and too many guys on the guest lst. There were 12 girls and ONLY 5 guys so this was such a disappointment. Staff in-house were friendly and tried to help but on the door were really rude. I would recommend this place to groups of girls who are no more then 4 (Inside: looks like yours standard club. However too many chicks with fake tan running around). Half of us also paid £20 to get in, but had to come out again and they refused to refund us. I wont be going back. Your 18th and 21st birthday is an important night which you will remember for the rest of your life. Thanks! Studio Valbonne you ruined it for a group of very good people.”

“Yes, the Phoenix was a great pub. I used to live nearby and i was a local. I came back last Tuesday for a pint, something to eat and have a nice evening with a friend to find that the food was overpriced for the quality which i would say is a 3 out of 10 and the staff was rude. Thank to God the beer is still very good, otherwise i would say it is not worth to going there. It is a pitty as i thought before it was one of the best pubs in south London.”
