“I could not disagree more with your other reviews. This place is fantastic, as I work in Broadgate Circus I go in to all bar one Appold Street at least twice a week and have never had a bad experience. The staff are great, the two managers are a breed apart in terms of service and making you feel at home. This little gem is far better than anything else in the area.”

“W eent here last friday, one of the best nights I've had in a long time. Away from the cheesy-ness of upper street but not trying to be something it's not. the staff are some of the best in london, working hard but enjoying the good music too, really makes a difference. strongly recommended.”

“A dazzling display of old victoriana which has survived the increasingly naff looking pine, leather sofa and one big room makeover to which so many old Islington pubs have been subject makes this a real gem. The real ale pumps are, well, real, and the place oozes charm. Having said that, if you want a bacardi breezer and/or a fight, you should definitely look elsewhere.”

The Dogstar, Brixton (Bar)
“I'd kinda given up on the Dogstar after enduring some grim nights of lads on the pull and spewing-down-your-trousers Cla'am totty, but things seem to have really turned around recently. The place seems to have chilled out considerably and looks to be attracting a slightly older crowd. It's all gone a bit sofa-tastic inside but there's still a bit of room to shake a leg. We went there for the first time in years last Thursday and had the best time we've had there in years! It was a club called Offline and it was great to see live bands, non-ego-preening DJs and some hilarious stand up. We loved it! Sundays are apparently getting better too, although I haven't been yet. Still not sure about the weekend either! ”

“Outstanding boozer. Call it an "old man's pub" if you like, but if you don't go, it really is your loss. Everything a pub should be.”

“Had a really bad experience at this pub.....a friend and I went in to eat, only to find (apparently) no serving staff, and a barman who couldn't care less when we indicated we needed service. The waitress finally surfaced, and we asked again for menus and attention. We waited, and waited...and waited. In the end, we walked out and went to the excellent Sophita Thai restaurant up the road. Both waitress and barman calmly watched us leave without a word. No stars at all for this appalling pub.”

“Lovely pub, especially in winter time with cosy nooks & crannies, and board games available to play infront of the 'fire'. Food looked wonderful, but I was very disappointed to find that my shot of Talisker was watered down and was served in a dirty glass. I would'nt have minded if it had been any old whiskey, but if someone is buying a high quality single malt, it's condescending if nothing else to recieve one that is watered down. However, a Dorset bitter on draft was smooth and that it was warm in the winter was quite comforting! Service was not quite there but very pleasant. ”

“A real hidden gem. By far the coolest and comfiest pub in the area....loads of couches, open fire, funky artwork etc etc.... The staff are genuinely friendly, the food and beer excellent. If you are around on a Saturday, be sure to check out the resident dj's, who play an awesome classic rock/soul set. ”

“I have been to this bar about 4 or 5 times now and every time has been brilliant! I have been when they have live bands/singers and they have always been fantastic... a real joy to listen to. I have also more recently been on a friday night and it was one of the best nights out I had had in a long time. Me and my friends were "chatted" up a little at the door whilst we waited and once we were in there was a lively and welcoming hustle and bustle with great music (not live). You feel special when you are in this bar... mixing with men and women who like to take care in their appearance, yet not at all snobby/bitchy. I felt very relaxed and at ease. The waiters were all very nice and served us quickly even though the bar was PACKED. We were the last to leave at gone 1 in the morning!! I have also been on a couple of Saturdays which have always been consistent, but Friday is the better of the two. Sunday is a nice time to go and chill out for a couple of hours with your boyfriend (or girlfriend). The toilets are also very nice and clean. The downstairs one is better than upstairs. I live in London and have been to LOADS of bars/clubs/resteraunts on all levels and in all areas. Although this is not the best place for cocktails (Lab bar is by far the best) it has remained consistantly good and I always bring a new friend here for a drink.. they are always impressed!!”

“Cozy but spacy; quiet but atmospheric (not including portebllo market avo's); good grub; on quieter nights, the manager likes to go a little old-school with the toons - i'm talking gangStarr, de la soul.”

“Not as good as it could be. Bouncers were less than welcoming, also I felt a little uncomfortanble in jeans. Only bottles on offer and a bit pricey. Music is good and atmosphere OK.”

“The most remarkable little pub that defies its surrounding. A seemingly normal pub from the outside, yet inside ones pre-conceptions are blown away by the eccentricities of the decor. What is most striking is not the theme, but the apparent lack thereof, although somehow it still works! Top quiz on Wednesday nights - fantastic bar staff. This pub has to be seen to be believed! ”

“As a venue Agenda is a bit lacking in atmosphere but get passed the endless shirts and ties to the dancefloor and the music is excellent with a definite 80s emphasis. I heard tracks I had not heard in years. The crowd are out for a good time and pretty much everyone was in a party mood. No hassle!”

Fountains Abbey, Paddington (Bar)
“Living in Belfast and visiting London every now and again It was one of the friendliest pub's I went into coming out of Paddington station I agree it is not a locals pub and I found it to be mainly tourists and hospital staff from St Marys hospital but the week I stayed in Paddington I was made to feel welcome in the Fountains Abbey. The staff were pleasant enough and the Manager David was always pleased to see me spending my money (LOL).”

“Nice place to come and talk - as opposed to scream over the music. Even on busy nights like Thursday or Friday you'll find some space for your pint and their gorgeous nibble plates - and when you're jolly enough play a game of pool downstairs. ”

“Enjoyed friday evening here visiting friends from London, glad to see that outside the west end people can look good but behave well when they're a bit drunk! Very friendly staff with a lot of patience for customers asking for weird foreign cocktails - like us. Definite date on my next visit.”
