Cubana 48 Lower Marsh, Waterloo, London, SE1 7RG (Map)
Cubana is a wonderfully atmospheric place that has become my "Local" since I moved to Waterloo. The friendly bar staff dressed in guerilla costumes make Mojitos with lashings of rum that are out of this... More

The Salisbury, Tottenham (Bar)
“Me and my partner visited the Salisbury on a Sunday hoping to leave having been suitably fed and watered. The Czech lager was decent. However, that was the only thing that was decent. The large Victorian pub, which I must say has potential, was probably as cold as it was in Dickens' time. Is the publican so poor that he/she cannot afford to heat the place ? We had to keep our coats on all the time that we were there. And don't get me started on the quality of the food ! The traditional Sunday lunch that was advertised is, in a nutshell, CRAP! Undercooked vegetables accompanied by overcooked potatos with dishwater for gravy. My partner had the lamb which she could have better utilised as a leather chamois. I had the chicken, which was marginally better, but not much. Stringy, dry and tasteless are the immediate adjectives that spring to mind. In fact we were so disappointed that we came home and cooked. If the publican of the Salisbury actually reads this review, my advice is sack the chef and get a decent heating system!”

The Pilot, Chiswick & Brentford (Bar / Restaurant)
“After becoming one of the converted, that to the new "gastropub" phenom, I thought I check out one of the more notable in my area - The Pilot. Firstly, I liked the fact that you can book a table, even if you're NOT eating, so that quiet social drink can still be obtained. However, I was eating, and the food was definately better than average (altho not as good as the Devonshire Arms nearby). More importantly, the desserts were top notch, and I would without hesitation, head back there for the Sticky Toffee pudding alone!
Great staff too, as they did their best to find some candles for my housemates birthday cake. Well worth a visit if you're sick of crowded smokey pubs with no room to sit.”

The Social (Arlington Square), Angel & Islington (Bar)
“The Social serves some of the worst food in London. I was there on Tuesday 13th Jan '04 and had the 'Slow Roast Lamb with potato and parsnip mash'. It was horrible - just a load of ASDA tinned lamb (probably) tipped into some luke warm mashed veg and stirred a bit. AVOID.”

Little Italy, Soho (Bar)
“Avoid this.. having been there recently on a few occations based on a friends reccommendation, this place sucks; if you are over 50 and want to find other people around 50 years of age, and dance to 50's music or italian boleros then do it. Also do it if you are willing to pay around 8 quid for a tiny drink. Otherwise avoid... the bar staff is unfriendly and agressive & they come to take away your glass before you have finished your drink. Very much a "TGI Friday" experience; get as many in to eat, throw them out, get next bunch in etc. Can't believe I actually went there twice... :(”

Bar Mojo, Enfield & Barnet (Bar)
“I live local to this bar, its a great place for people that want to either dance the night away or just to meet up, relax and drink the magically created cocktails made by Sam the Bar Man!!
Sofa's, big random pillows, cocktails and great music supplied by Dj Truce, Dj Fresh and Tp which gives the place a great atmosphere.
Saturday nights are hosted by Extreme Fm and can get really busy and the vibe is electric.
Expect Vocal Garage, RnB, Hip Hop oh and a tad of dancehall on Fridays and Saturdays. If you havent been, go with some friends and experience a top London Bar.”

The Queen Mary, West End (Bar)
“Ahoy there boys! I first discovered the Queen Mary a few weeks ago, and I'd like to say it's one of the best bars/clubs/pubs in London. Get rid of all the pre-tense snobbery of Soho, or the strand. Just strip off and relax in the soft and friendly atmosphere. The club is something else! A great place to meet the guys. ICE BERG! RIGHT AHEAD BOYS!!”
