The best time to go is Friday night when th restaurant is jam packed. East is East is heaven for non-vegetarian indian eaters. The average curry dish costs £5 and is amazing. You need to try at this place... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“Really depressing - the staff were constantly arguing or disappearing out the back. The regulars acted like somebody had just died - go to Scarletts down the road instead!”

The Salisbury, Tottenham (Bar)
“This is my local pub and we are fortunate to live only a 5 minute walk away. It really is the only decent public house in the area but it is a real gem. The staff are friendly and it is big enough to accommodate large groups even on a Saturdsay night in it's vast back room. The ambiance is great and there is an eclectic juke box to fill the grand surroundings. The late opening 1am Thurs-Sat to Saturday is a real boon. The only drawbacks are the overpriced food (Delicious Sunday Roast but £8.00 for a mean portion) and the lack of a beer garden. I love my local me.”

“Are you kidding??? the drinsk are good, but it is like drinking in someone's closet, and the ratio of dodgy Russian ladies of dubious employment to actual drinkers is alarming. There are many better cocktail bars than this dive, and it is not priced accordingly.”

Hoa Viet Restaurant, Peckham & Camberwell (Bar)
“Great Vietnamese food, and more traditional Chinese dishes if anyone's not feeling too adventurous. Food's just like in Vietnam and the wine is cheap and drinkable, as well as having great Vietnamese beers. Well worth a visit.”

“This is superb on matchdays with fans from all over the world. It has even been know to find waya fans in here on Europen nights. The price is one of the best for lager in the area and is a nice pint. The toilets must be the best at any footy ground.”

“A lovely intimate bar that's great value (cocktails £4-6 as of april 2005) and does simply the *best* long island iced teas in the world, *fact*. I challenge you to talk sense after 3. Mojitos, mules and cosmopolitans are great too. Get there early if you want a seat.”

“A charming venue in Herne Hill - good for a long, lazy meal, or tapas menu at the bar with a cold beer. Perhaps the highlight is the the welcoming staff. Sure, it's small and there are some early hitches to iron out. But the staff more than compensate for this by making you feel like they've been looking forward to your visit.”

Island Queen, Angel & Islington (Bar)
“Having lived in Islington for 5 years and now living in Stoke Newington I cant help but feel disappointed with myself for not venturing around the corner to one of the most stunning pubs I have been to in London in the 10 years I have been living here. Coming from Nottingham, a place well known for its historic pubs I'm used to fantastic pubs filled with history , charm and atmosphere. That was until recently when I finally went to visit The Island Queen, Noel Rd Islington. You cant help but be impressed by the magnificent Victorian windows that go as high as the enormous ceilings. The horseshoe bar seems dwarfed by the grand mirrored walls which you cant help but sit and stare at. It was a Sunday and indeed a sunny day and at first we were reluctant to sit inside a bar even though we were really relishing a Sunday lunch to nurse our hangover from the previous night. But once we entered the pub we were smitten. Serving a varied selection of Sunday Roasts, Bar snacks, a great selection of wine and not to mention the fantastic beers on offer (im hoping to try the raspberry leemans on our next visit) The bar staff were friendly and all smiles and who wouldn’t be working in such a beautifully decadent environment. Instead of s Sunday roast I opted for the fish fingers on ciabatta with lime mayo and a round glass of rioja and sat back reading the Sunday papers. The furniture all very inviting and comfortable with the added bonus of the music being subtle and understated. I could ”

“I went here a few weeks ago for dinner and was pleasantly surprised - having just moved to Clapham recently I hadn't tried any sushi here yet. I had the sashimi platter which was very simple (as it should be) fresh and tasty. The steamed crab dumplings starter is really nice, extremely flavorful. The cocktails were lovely too. All of this made up for somewhat standoffish service, and the table next to us had a very interesting looking flaming scallop dish which I will definately order next time. Overall, I've had trouble finding quality sushi in London and find this place more than satisfactory, I'll definately go again.”

“I wouldn't recommend this pub to my worst enemy. Horribly rude staff with no regard for customers. My friends and I called in close to closing and on the stroke of 11 had our pints confiscated and were practically thrown out the door. Do not go to this pub.”
