“The Cellar was almost empty for my visit and no surprise given the poor value of the food. £6 or £7 for a hunk of bread with a hint of chicken filling and £3.50 for a bowl of greasy skinny oven chips. Not a patch on how I remember it from a year or so back.”

Chimichanga, Muswell Hill & Hornsey (Restaurant)
“An early evening visit to Chimichanga in Peterborough proved a disappointment. The enchiladas looked great when they arrived (very quickly) but were hot on the outside and cold inside, microwave sprang to mind. The sizzling tiger prawn fajitas were much better and the piña coladas proved the saving grace. The service was adequate at best and the atmosphere cold.”

“We had a great party at Imbibe. The staff were very helpful in all the organisation and on the day everything went smoothly. It is a great venue enabling us to have an afternoon BBQ in the lovely garden and we created a kids corner. For the evening we had a band followed by a DJ with lots of dancing. We had lots of great comments from our guests on the venue, food and the party. We would definitely use Imbibe again for any future parties as it was such a success. Great venue in having the outside space and lovely bar with room for a band in a central location.”

“Just plain awesome. What a fantastic place to go, any time of the day. I've been here for breakfast and stayed working on my laptop for hours. Great juices and food during the day. Plus awesome tunage playing all day too. Then as the evening draws in, the 'cool' factor goes through the roof when Book Club is inundated with lots of really friendly, interesting people. When the downstairs gets moving it's a total riot. But not a wasted riot, a jovial, genial, pleasant riot. And lads, it's FULL to the brim with lots of beautiful ladies.”

Il Cantuccio di Pulcinella, Clapham (Restaurant)
“My pasta was so salty, I was crunching undissolved granules. I glugged down so much water, feeling embarassed about it & making a fuss with my partner there after our lovely day out. Her pizza looked great whilst it was openly being made near the clay oven but she told me it was nothing special. I eventually asked the waitress to take my plate 10 minutes after I'd stopped eating. She asked the usual "was all ok" and I apologised and told her it was so salty I had to stop. I could see her speaking to the chef and looking over at me. My pallate had been wiped out by the salt and I genuinley couldn't eat another thing. Just like when we were sat there waiting almost having to Mexican wave to order, they steadfastly avoided us on a 30% full Saturday night until I caught the waitress' attention as she scuttled past out table. No apologies from them, no discount or nicety, nothing. As we snaked through the restaurant, they didn't say anything to us, not even a goodbye. They just stared. We felt strongl”

Picture of Janet's Bar, Kensington, London

Janet's Bar, Kensington (Bar)
“As stated above, most definitely the best bar in London. My friends and I came across this amazing little gem of a place by accident and have been going back every week since. I'm not alone in this either- the number of regulars, all of whom Janet herself knows by name and face, just goes to show what a fantastic spot this bar is. The cocktail list is well worth a look- it's extensive, varied and each delicious creation is definitely worth the price tag. And the prices are good when one takes into consideration where the bar is situated- at the hub of South Kensington. There's also a great selection of wines and spirits. To the satisfaction of those gathering at Janet's Bar before going to Boujis (favourite nightspot of Prince William etc., which is just across the road) on weeknights, Janet is now serving £3 shots of a yummy vodka and liquor mixture. We also get given free popcorn, PB and J sandwiches, nuts and hot dogs! The interior of the bar is one of my favourite things about it. The walls are covered corner to corner with photographs taken over the years. Souvenirs of parties gone by such as party hats, streamers, banners, posters and ornaments lining the shelves add to the eclectic, unpretentious all-American vibe, and the owner Janet embodies this entirely. The bar is open until 2.30am, long after all the others in the area lock up. You also never have to wait around to be served, and your drinks come promptly. There is live music every night- three different singers play to a relaxed yet well-dressed crowd. I always meet new people every time I go. If you haven't yet been to Janet's, you should know that it's definitely worth a visit (or twelve). Even if you come during the day, you can get a coffee and muffin for £2.50. The staff are friendly and efficient, the drinks are good, and the atmosphere is constantly vibrant.”

“Was looking for a lively place for our last night in London and we were recommended Zebranos in Soho. Figured it would be a laugh as we'd heard some interesting things about soho...but this place was actually really decent! Food was great. Drink was flowing. Prices weren't stupid. Two thumbs up!”

Janet's Bar, Kensington (Bar)
“Anyone who has not enjoyed a night at Janet’s Bar should make a beeline for South Kensington ASAP. With an eclectic and well-loved interior- you’ll find party hats, personalised menus, flags, streamers and other such paraphernalia- Janet’s Bar gives off an unpretentious American vibe. For an after-work or pre-nightclub drink you are utterly spoilt for choice: there’s an extensive, mouth-watering cocktail list (you’ll want to try them all) as well as a good selection of high-quality wines and champagnes, all worth the price tag. Five nights a week a talented guitarist serenades the vibrant crowd, wherein chic young professionals mingle with dapper businessmen. The location is perfect for the stylish twenty-somethings who are looking for a place to hang out before going to famous nightclub Boujis (just across the road). On these nights you can get a delicious vodka shot flavoured with liquor for just £3! If you’re lucky you might get to meet Janet herself. She’s a gregarious, American blonde bombshell who will always make you feel welcome and comes in frequently to chat to her loyal regulars, all of whom she knows by name and drink. The bar is open until 2.30 am, long after the others in the area close up, and the service is always incomparable. Whether you pick a seat at the bar, at a table, on the terrace, or choose to rub shoulders with other fashionable partygoers, you will never have to wait around for your drink. Overall, the service is brilliant, the ambience is laid-back and fun, and the clientele smart. If anything, the regulars at this great central London bar speak for themselves. If you go once, you’ll keep going back!”

“The service here is absolutely excellent - although i found the staff to be very unfriendly. After about 9pm the place got really packed (too much for my liking)- so the best time to go is before then especially if your'e eating. The food is average - I found all the food to have a really bitter taste for some reason. The bread and butter pudding was nice though as well as the Irish coffee which was extremely strong. The noise in the bar is very loud, so conversation might be hard, but again, best to go before it gets too busy. I LOVE the look of the place - it is so artistic with its windows, low ceilings and nice wooden touches all over the place.”

“Was just walking down The Strand and decided to go to the Coal Hole for lunch with a friend. I found the service to be really slow, and they didn't have any of the beer I wanted (that was on the menu) in the chilled form. I wasn't so impressed. Not only this, but they didn't have the peppered steak pie that both myself and my friend wanted (and was also on the menu!). When we did finally get our order the food was good - but still, don't think I'd go back there again.”
