Desi Tadka, Hayes & Southall (Restaurant)
“As soon as you walk in you will feel like you have stepped into Punjab....' Desi Tadka is an 'Old Skool' Punjabi restaurant, located on the Uxbridge Road in the heart of Southall which really does offer an authentic Punjabi dining experience.
The menu showcases the food culture and heritage of the Greater Punjab region spanning vast territories of present day Pakistan and Northern Western India.
Traditional lantern lighting, rural artefacts and bhangra dancing has made this a firm favourite with the local community.
The 'Afghani Murg' (chicken cooked Afghan style) is excellent. Offal is something that is not often seen in South Asian food outlets, however the 'Magaz Lamb' or lamb brains is a popular special, as is the 'Keema Kalegi Gurde Kapoore' (A regional speciality dish of minced lamb cooked with liver, kidney and lamb breast -is a must try.
Seasonal specialities like 'Makki di Roti (Punjabi corn bread) and 'Saro da Saag' (spinach with mustard leaves) feature on the menu too. The 'Amritsari Machhi' (regional fish speciality) was a masterful blend of spices that we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Complete with achaars, parathas and lassi, this is Punjabi hospitality at its best. Laid back and informal yet ever so friendly and compassionate, this intimate family run eatery transcends the barriers of history, politics and cultural differences. Desi Tadka truly does offer the bold folklore, rustic traditions and colourful tastes, - from the lost Kingdom of Punjab.”

“Excellent food. The most amazing mixed grill in Brick Lane. Those lamb chops were just perfect. Worth a visit if you like your curries and a cold cobra beer.”

The Penny Black Restaurant & Bar, Chelsea (Bar / Restaurant)
“A really good find. The service is exceptional and from that a good restaurant can flourish. The meal was very good and substantial which is a nice change from the great-but-need-MaccyDs-afterwards brigade. The wine list deserves a specific mention as it is very well written, comprehensive and brilliantly offers every wine by the glass. We will return to try their Sunday brunch or perhaps a roast beef or two.”

Tagine, Balham (Restaurant)
“First recommendation: BYOB. Sainsburys is just over the road so pop in there first for an on-special wine and then bring it with you to Tagine (I’m pretty sure they didn’t charge us corkage, or if they did, it wasn’t much). Lovely mixed sharing starters with bread and then a monstrously large lamb tagine for the main. The 6 of us shared one dessert, we were that stuffed. A really lovely, warm experience. The best restaurant in Balham by far. Love the low chairs too.”

The Craft Beer Co., Clerkenwell (Bar)
“Probably the best range of beers anywhere in London. The pub itself is bright, very birght, due to the white walls and mirrored ceiling. There are stools and leather banquettes along one wall but it never seems crowded (not when I’ve been; always managed to pilfer a seat or two). Some people like to spill out onto the pavement outside when the weather is nice. Ladies: a high quotient of chaps here, just so you know. Best of all though is that range of beers. Truly astonishing. Probably about 30 or 40 on tap. Most of which I’ve never heard of, and I love beer. A beer lovers’ secret London hideout.”

“Was very cosy and nice like the old style pubs not many left around although had some very loud, rude, and threatening customers in there drunk at 2pm. They knew the owner and he was happy to let them sit there abusing customers. A shame don't think I'll go there again.”

“Really fantastic. We had a fabulous traditional olde English pub lunch that was very reasonably priced in the most atmospheric pub, tucked away in a tiny street in Knightsbridge. Owner was a real character too!”

“I have a friend living close to this pub so I have been there quite a few times in the last year. I find the atmosphere excellent and very welcoming. There is always something going on at the weekends like DJs playing good music and the way the pub is set up I could be sitting at one end of the pub chatting and at the other everyone is up dancing to Abba or 80s soul which I love! My friend has drunk there for 12 years and says it's the best it has ever been. I love going there in the week sometimes aswell to play darts or watch the footie. I'm very impressed with this pub and the way it is run. The landlady - I think her name is Pam - seems to have put a lot of time into making sure that everyone is happy which is why i think people like me enjoy the pub so much. I have not been a one to drink in a pub like a Wetherspoon or one of them yuppie sort of pubs with no music and people sitting in there own little groups; I could do that at home with. Couple of cans! This pub has got it right a bit for everyone and also a lovely garden aswell. I'm not a big drinker but if i didn't live so far away i'd proberly be there most nights the wife would kill me lol!”

The Penthouse, West End (Bar / Club)
“ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME & MONEY!!! Would give minus stars if I could. Went there last night with my BF for New Year 2012 celebration. Firstly there was misleading address ?! We were directed to Covent Garden Hotel, and may I mention we were not the only ones! Staff at Hotel Reception were amazed how many 'confused' party people were turning up there that night. After much exhausting searching we were finally queing up in chaoticaly managed line, awful. We were told the dress code should be smart & glamorous, but there were so many people let inside wearing trainers & street clothes. After 1/2 hour wait in queue witnessing the rudeness of admitting staff we had to climb 7 flights of stairs to get to over-stuffed 'dance-floor' if you can even call it that! No place to keep the overcoats, no place tu turn around or breathe, let alone dance! The setting: ceiling so low that I don't recommend people over 6ft to attend if they want to avoid looking hump-backed. Single mirror attached on the wall 'for ornamental purposes' & glitter lights worse that on x-mas tree, they call it a BAR, are they having a laugh? Waiters bumping into you with glasses and instead of appology you get: 'you shouldn't stand here'. P.S. Good place to go if you want to quit smoking... climbing up & down 7 floors will surely make you think twice ;)
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO MY ENEMIES”

Love Walk Cafe, Peckham & Camberwell (Bar / Restaurant)
“I came to this cafe from first day of opening. That time the food was very good, service very friendly, you were happy to go eat breakfast early; good coffee and cake. For the last 2 years I have been a regular customer (I work at Kings) I don't know what happened. In the early morning I loved to drink coffee but the person serving on the morning shift has a funny way of making you feel welcome. His coffee is rubbish and how he speak with his colleague is very rude. I came nearly every morning for my coffee but last time I had to face arguing with with the manager and him (I'm thinking she is his wife). I left with out my coffee I don't go any more. Service is very rude.”
