“Beware of the table service in the cocktail bar, especially if you're onto your second or third drink: Because you can't see them mix it, the bar staff seem to think that they don't need to use any alcohol. Pretty cheeky, at £7 a pop. The waitress grudgingly took them back, to which the chap behind the bar gave us a look that illustrated his irritation that we'd noticed he'd scammed us, rather than expressing any surprise or apology. Sadly, the music policy was equally disappointing: although all 4/4-based (good), the tempo, mood, and style had no structure, nor any hit of an overall direction, and consecutive tunes often jarred. (one minute techno, the next disco? This is not what good warm-ups are made from.) It sounded like an aged jukebox was randomly selecting from a stock of hundreds of "best of dance" albums. Suddenly makes you realize the importance of a well crafted background soundtrack: when the tunes were silky and groovy, as one might expect for this kind of venue, the vibe noticeably picked up, but instantly fell as the next tune came in. And, expecting there to be massive crowds on a Saturday night, we even arrived early. But at 9pm, there were still plenty of tables around. Even the booths in the cocktail bar regularly became free. Hardly surprising, really...”

East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich (Bar)
“Formerly notorious corner boozer, now cleaned up and gentrified in the manner of the surrounding area. The EDT (as SE22 locals know it) is still down to earth enough for a BIG screen for the football, real ales and a smattering of older locals. Downstairs is pleasantly pubby and scruffy, upstairs has a fine restaurant serving tasty pizza and pasta at entirely reasonable prices. The late licence at weekends is a welcome bonus for those who can't face the journey to nearby Camberwell for an after hours tipple.”

Milk & Honey, Soho (Bar)
“Quite simply the best bar in London. Fabulous drinks, courteous, intelligent staff, ambient music (mainly blues), cool "speak-easy" decor and the comfiest chairs (in the Red Room, at least) of any bar I've ever visited. But. It's a bar for grown-ups. That's a selling point to me but if you go to bars to get drunk and shrieking, pick up members of the opposite (or same) sex or regale the room with not-so-sotto-voce conversations about that deal you've done or how you once snogged the sister of Madonna's manicurist then it's not for you. Thank God. ”

The Bridge House, London Bridge & Bermondsey (Bar)
“A very welcome respite from the over priced Conrans on the front at Butlers Wharf. The bar is open normal pub hours, with wood floors and interesting use of colour around a well lit room. The more formal dining Room is available Thurs eves to Sunday eves, and is more sumtuous with carpeted floors and very comfortable tables. It would be great for corprate team building dinners Monday to Thursday I think the management are missing a trick. Excellent quality food is served in both the bar and the dining room at really good value for money prices. The staff are a good mix of fun / busy and are attentive to detail. A great bar, and (for me) a great local.”

“lovely little bar - even if you don't like table football this bar has plenty to recommend it. It's pretty cosy, but has a really charming slightly dishevelled air about it. If you're into polished chrome and black leather than maybe it's not for you - but if you'd rather hang out somewhere that feels a bit more relaxed you could do worse. Music tends to be latin-ish but not in a clichéd way. Food at lunchtimes is great, really fresh sandwiches, salads and platters at a good price (certainly for the area). From my experience staff are friendly and laid back. Well worth a visit - and if you like table football the 3 (I think) old school tables should keep you occupied while you drink. ”

“What a great find! If you need to sit, drink a coffee and catch up on your sunday newspapers or if you want to warm up for a night out in Soho, the cocktails are fabulous. Unpretentious, relaxed atmosphere and feels tourist free. Long may it continue.”

Babur, Forest Hill & Honor Oak Park (Bar / Restaurant)
“Get past the dodgy plastic Tiger on the roof and you'll find a great restaurant. They regularly have special seasons (Winter Game, Seafood) and will provide fantastic dishes that you'll probably never find in your standard Indian restaurant. If, for some reason, you find yourself in Honor Oak Park give them a try.”

“A relaxing bar with great outdoor seating that doesn't leave you eating fumes. If the weather ever forced you to sit inside though, it's a funky, yet uncomfortable for slouching, communal bench seating. Definately give this place a try.”

Bridge House, Maida Vale & St Johns Wood (Bar)
“Being such a picturesque area you would be forgiven for thinking there would be hundreds of great bars and pubs located in and around Little Venice. Alas there are very few places to enjoy a drink while surveying the canal boats as they work their way back and forward along the canal Fortunately there is The Bridge House - a very nice gastro pub perched one Westbourn Terrace Road. And The Bridge House isn't just nice because competition is scarce, it is in fact very tastily decorated, offers a good selection on wines, spirits and beers and good gastro pub grub. The staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable when we visited on Saturday night. Dishes on offer included Mushroom and Pinenut Risotto, Smoked Haddock Fish Cakes and Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli - all around £8. Chilled dance music washed over us as we reclined on an odd selection of mismatch tables, benches and comfy chairs. The other diners and drinks seemed to be 'cool' variety and seemed to be treating The Bridge House as an extension of their own homes. People came and went but the place never seemed hectic. Well worth a visit.”

“If you like to listen to pop and meet young hot bartenders this is the place for you. The crowd here is mostly young early 20's guys, not very cruisy! All around good time.”

Cafe de Paris, West End (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Cafe De Paris is a really funky night if you like gorgeous surroundings and gorgeous people. the drinks are a bit pricey (but where isn't in london?) but the dance floor is huge and always packed with a funky feel and bongos in the background. the upstairs mexxanine is wicked for a more glamourous feel with its own mini bar and seats overlooking the dancefloor below, but to feel truly glamourous you have to be able to blag your way into the VIP room to the side of the bar - wicked dj and chilled atmosphere.”

Hops! Bar, West End (Bar)
“You would do a lot better taking a stroll up the street and checking out the 'real' london bars. This place came across fake, beer tasting poor and unfriendly service. The high prices didn't reflect in the art as this was poor too. I think it survives by catching out tourists.”

“Just about one the best bar/club in East London. Perfect for relaxing in the sun on a weekend morning to read your paper, and then 8 hours later it can boast a music line up to rival anyclub in the UK. A must visit.”

Picture of Fabric, Clerkenwell, London

Fabric, Clerkenwell (Bar)
“Things have changed at Fabric over the years. Once it was the underground club that everyone was talking about, now its kind of like your local Weatherspoons, but in the dark. With really loud music and expensive drinks in plastic cups! It has the biggest collection of varied people, who really dont know what to make of one another, Rude boys and girls, baggy trousered dancers, 40 year old women on hen nights, the lot! But if you havnt been, go this weekend, you wont find a club anywhere who have spent so much time on attention to detail, to make your night one you wont forget! unless you do way too much!”

Market Place, Fitzrovia (Bar)
“It certainly does get very busy any day of the week it begins to get busy by 7, when the locals finish work. The place is wonderful though if you get there early enough to enjoy it. The decor has a relaxed Swedish feel to it being all wood with lights under the bench like seating. There is some seating out door and because it's just off Oxford St in a quiter part you're not completely choking with fumes. The staff are friendly and personal and the food is good and homely.”
