Recent bar & restaurant customer reviews in London

Westbourne House 65 Westbourne Grove, Bayswater, London, W2 4UJ (Map)

Westbourne House is rather stylish and relaxed. A feat many london bars fail to achieve. However the service leaves a lot to be desired, more panache is required if the venue is to live up to its early... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“How is it possible for an Italian restaurant to get pizza wrong? Attilios know how! When they saw their customer not eating their pizza (i.e. me), did they come and ask how was the food, even though the owner was watching from just 3 metres away (but proud enough to paint his own face on the wall twice!). Am I writing this because I am bored and have nothing better to do - NO! I called over the owner and said I was very upset that the pizza was undercooked, he said I make a new one if you like, I said no need, if anything please give me a glass of wine. He did that, and then had the cheek to charge me for it! I have never had a terrible pizza before, I did not know it was possible! Next time, although it galls me to go to a chain, I'll go to Carluccio's! NB the lighting in there is awful.”

Solea, Fulham (Bar / Restaurant)
“I went to Solea for the first time on a tuesday night with my girlfriend. I was really pleasantly surprised. The staff are great, really relaxed atmosphere, nice people, great service and such value for money. The food was outstanding and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Plus they have a little cute courtyard outback with a few tables for the smokers ;-) Definitely going back there.”

“Wow such good reviews for such a bad restaurant. The service was awful, the worst I have ever ever had. We kept being told off by the waitress for simple things like pouring water in a wine glass. Even the table next to us were being told off and we were all there to celebrate an occasion. Food was less than average. For the money we paid I was expecting fine dining. The amount of food we got was fine dining (tiny servings). Nothing special, if they charged £5 for the main dish I wouldn't of complained, but it was a set menu for £40 and they served rubbish. You the reader deserve better food and a better experience, stay away.”

“This restuarant is amazing! Stepping into the interioris a step back into a world of history and culture. As you feast on the wonderful taste combinations and soak in the warm relaxingatmosphere you may also feast your eyes on the history of Sheba and Soloman in ornate artwork and tapestry. The warm welcome and inviting smiles help make this a great experience for all. Children are welcomed as family!”

Nobu London, Mayfair (Bar / Restaurant / Hotel)
“Much fuss is made about the difficulty of obtaining tables at this swanky iconic restaurant in London's Park Lane, however, book sensibly in advance (1-2 month's and we had a table for 30) and one of the best food experiences in London is yours. The food created here by the restaurants nakesake, Nobu Matsuhisa, is imaginative, innovative, and above all downright tasty! The service was excellent, with all of the courses (9 in total) being served smoothly and timely, and despite the exclusive outer/media persona all of the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. Get yourself on the guestlist (or book a room) for a few after dinner drinks in the fashionable Met Bar housed downstairs (both restaurant and bar are housed in the Metropolitan Hotel) to finish the night off nicely. Altogether a fab night out, shall be returning soon.”

“Great pub! Love the atmosphere and the food is perfect. Maybe a bit hard to find if you're not local but i think this simply makes it more exclusive! Highly recommended.”

“I too have been to the hide bar on several occasions - and found it very much to my liking. The food has always been excellent (Ignore Alek, he was obviously having a bad day) and the selection of alcohol on offer is awesome. Tuesday night is a particular favourite when they have a tasting evening which is always well worth attending. The staff are friendly and obviously take pride in their craft. All in all it’s definitely worth taking a trip to Bermondsey Street to check out.”

“I booked a table for 20 in this huge place some weeks before my birthday. We turn up to find people sitting at our reserved table who refused to move. The staff were no help and refused to move them, we asked for the manager, who never came. Squeezed into an area near the door, waited an hour for our drinks and so promptly left. With so many great venues in the City, i would advise you give this place a very wide berth.”

“What a bloody good place the gun is. I had the partridge which was excellent & ended up finishing off a good claret, relaxing in an armchair in front of a roaring fire. Not many places in London you can do that.”

Mother Bar at 333, Shoreditch (Bar / Club)
“The worst place in London. £8 to get in. Super expensive drinks (£8.80 for a double vodka and splash of coke in plastic glass) and the place closes at 2am on the dot. Its terrible and you will have the worst night.”

The Hide Bar, London Bridge & Bermondsey (Bar)
“After about half a dozen successful visits I can confirm that the Hide is a very decent spot for a few weeknight beverages, with lots of attention to detail both in the drinks and the environment making it stand out from more run-of-the-mill bar offerings. The owners are obviously very fussy about what they offer their customers, with an impressive range of interesting beers, great cocktails and an extensive wine list where even the cheaper end is good quality (pretty rare in my experience!) Definitely a valuable addition to the fast-growing enclave of bars and restaurants around Bermondsey Street and certainly worth a visit if you want to try somewhere a bit different.”

The Bridge Lounge & Dining Room, London Bridge & Bermondsey (Bar / Restaurant)
“The food is nice, but the place is always a bit dead during the week and the weekend. It's a bit quiet, which is good if you want to have a meal without being disturbed. Bad if you want to socialise. I went to the Bridge last Saturday and we were the only people in the bar for three hours! It also seems a bit stuffy. I can't help but think the place would attract more customers if it loosened up it's image. It's poshness is liable to alienate a lot of customers who are just looking for a relaxing night out.”
