The Northcote 2 Northcote Road, Battersea, Clapham, London, SW11 1NT (Map)

A decent upgrade from the previous incarnations. It still has the odd TV for the footie lovers out there but on the whole the decor is much more modern, and rustic. I reckon they've added more table to... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“I love this venue. It's got everything - a bar with wifi, aquarium and Wii; a fancy restaurant that has a cracking special offer deal every night of the week; a swanky cocktail bar with views of the Sainsbury's car park; and, my favourite bit, a cinema that allows you to take your drinks AND your dessert in with you.”

“So it's not a bar, nor a pub, nor a restaurant, but it is a nice place to hang out. The special machines they have make it really easy to 'try before you buy' and you're actively encouraged to just hang out in this wine shop. Spend an hour in there choosing a lovely white and then tootle off to Victoria Park to drink it.”

“A tiny place with lots to offer on the food, drink and comfort front. I love the open fire, old style decor and general feel of the place. Good food, served with a convincing smile.”

“A good place to go for a ocuple of drinks, but not a sit-around-all-nighter. The Thai food is supposed to be good, but I haven't tried it - it just seems a bit out of place in a oub like this. Not bad, but there are other nicer ones nearby.”

“Open fire, a vast list of good wines and beers, lovely bar staff and generally a great atmosphere. A bit 'local' at times; everyone does seem to know each other. It's one of the few dog friendly places, so a great place to go after a stroll on Primrose Hill. Good food - especially the pitta bread, olives and hummous for a generous snack. It does get very busy at times so unless you get there early in the evening you might find yourself propping up the bar.”

“Book ahead. This place gets full in advance and whenever I walk past it's heaving and wafting lovely food smells. I've taken visiting friends here a couple of times, and they've loved it too. A real family-run, traditional Greek atmosphere; lots of lovely touches, like olives on arrival; very friendly, funny waiters and food that tastes amazing but doesn't clear your bank balance. They could actually get away with charging a bit more.”

“Love this place, especially on a sunny day when you can grab a table on the patio area and watch people go by. Agree with some of the other comments about the staff - I've had mixed experiences, either you get a really friendly one, or you get a miserable guy with no personality and a bit of attitude. Not a huge problem though, unless you're looking for someone to hang out with. Great beers, pub grub, like fish finger sandwiches (delicious), and burgers, also comedy nights mid week. Recommended!”

“Low scores on this one because although the food was lovely - great sauces, spicy condiments, etc - the decor and atmosphere really wasn't up to much and we waited for ages after asking for the bill. The Quajito cocktail is delicious also. Not a bad place, the rest of the service was excellent and it's reasonably priced, but as it's meant to be Michelin-starred it didn't have the pizazz I was expecting.”

“It was my birthday party, we were around 20 people and we booked a table. I must say I was impressed how large drink list they have- champagnes, vodkas, wines, wow...the music was very good, it was mixed of everything it wasn't just a house music but little bit of everything not in many clubs you get it. Also if you like to order your favourite song you can do it. There was a food menu so we got some snacks but we asked some extra dishes from the restaurant and they got us everything. I am really impressed, people are nice and friendly. oh and toilets you must see them, I think all girls wanted to take some photos to show their friends next day. The venue was amazing and thank you so much for organising my birthday bash!!!”

“What a find! This ex-snooker hall seems a little incongruous down a dodgy back alley in Streatham but once inside you get the shock of your life. Wow! It's amazing. A group of us came down here on a Thursday night (the new Friday) to catch some comedy (the compere was hilarious) and we had a blast. Table service, great British food, great selection of booze, and loads of cheerful faces. I'm definitely going back on one of the Jazz, RnB or Latin Funk live music nights.”

“Without a shadow of a doubt my favourite veggie restaurant in London. Also my favourite venue for food in central London. The food here is just divine – and healthy! Perfect location to drag yourself after a hard days shopping (or even working) in central London. Do not miss out on sweet potato wedges – you will seriously regret it! Try the corn bread too. Wonderful organic wine also. You can’t book and may have to queue but it is well worth the wait.”

“Perfect for a post-work (much needed) G&T. Great pub, always buzzy (but still fairly easy to get a seat) with lovely decor - you feel like you are in an over-sized living room. Upstairs is super cosy too. There is also a great selection of food, a couple of real ales and a selection of board games! What's not to love?!”

“Seriously the best vegetarian food I've ever had in London. Actually, some of the best dishes - vegetarian or not - are served here. The menu is innovative and creative, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is warm. The recent renovation has made the room look modern without being too stark. Non-vegetarians will love this too - the food is so delicious that you really don't miss the meat!”
