The Church Electric Brixton, Town Hall Parade, London, SW2 1RJ (Map)

Great times! I visited you almost every Sunday I could in the early 90's. I actually made it on stage with the strippers twice. My dad loved it too. Great memories that I will always cherish. More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

Love Walk Cafe, Peckham & Camberwell (Bar / Restaurant)
“The best omelette I have ever tasted! Ordering an omelette in a cafe is always a risk, as any omelette-lover knows. It's all too easy to be ripped off with a sloppily-whisked mess that's soggy in the middle and hidden by cheese. The manager of Love Walk Cafe has the perfect omelette down to an art. Fantastic service and a wide choice of teas all add to the delight of being a customer at this friendly cafe. It's everything you need from a cafe experience. I was stranded in Camberwell having accidentally turned up hours too early for a hospital appointment, and the staff could not have been more accommodating. This cafe has a warm atmosphere, fantastic food as well as hot drinks and cake. The Love Walk Cafe is easily my new favourite cafe in South London.”

The Lounge, Balham (Bar / Restaurant)
“I celebrated my 30th birthday at Lounge. They were able to accommodate my party of 40 by letting us have the whole top floor. I've been here before for parties and so had no hestitation booking it for my birthday as I knew how wonderful the service was. Philippe and Manuela, the lovely owners are so welcoming and hospitable. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do and they are very relaxed and friendly, while doing a great job of serving up delicous food for a large group very efficiently. They do set menus, so you can avoid the painful bill splitting at the end as well. Would definitely recommend. Great taste of Spain in Balham”

“The place has a great atomsphere and would be a good place pre-show dinner or shopping trip lunch but would visit during the evening more so because of the nice nightlife aura it has. Maybe best for an easy going foursome or small group.”

The Maynard Arms, Crouch End (Bar)
“had a few bad experiences in the past here, but a new manager took over just before xmas and what a difference already! the place seems cleaner, more organised and a lot more cosy in the evenings with the lights dimmed, candles out and big leather sofas in the windows to watch the world go by. also you can find a very decent pint of real ale here, something sometimes missing from this new wave of gastro pub. food menu is extensive and seems good value, pitched somewhere between the bottom feeders at wetherspoons, and the overpriced villiers terrace. probably has the biggest beer garden in crouch end too, bring on the summer!”

“Do Not Go! Prices are ridiculous, bar staff rude and they cannot make cocktails for love nor money! I had to wait over 15mins for my drink as they "forgot" to give it to me after I had paid. It was the most disgusting Mojito I have ever had, when I spoke to the lady behind the bar I got an arrogant surly response! You could find a much nicer bar!”

“I have been dining at Isolabella for many years now and for many reasons, firstly the friendly service, the fact that it is a beautifully layed out, classy restaurant and of course it's food. Traditional Italian dishes infused with a hint of Portuguese cuisine. I definitely recommend this restaurant, 5 stars.”

Archipelago, Fitzrovia (Bar / Restaurant)
“Exotic little place in Fitzrovia with unusual yet ethically sourced food in London's Fitzrovia. A lovely little intimate setting to enjoy exquisite dishes inspired from the farthest corners of the world. We had a great night out and have now listed this as a favourite spot to eat and take out of town guests for a memorable meal. I dn't know what Micheal was thinking about with his review, all the things he hated about the place, is what makes Archipelago! Who wants to go the same restuarant template that you get in most high streets! If he wanted a quick dinner, i'm sure there were plenty of take-aways around the corner. I'm glad i don't work with him, i want to have fun and to relax at my xmas party, i would love to have it there!”

“I sat down for a coffee with my friend and mentioned to the owner that he should add a chess set to the games they have. Five minutes later he appeared with a chess set. He had actually ran up the street and bought it from a charity shop.. Now i go in there when i can to study. Its a fun place. Good coffee and cakes.”

““Probably one of the best cafes in London, if you like good music, drinks and people.. I like this cafe as it's not just another boring style cafe full of mannequins. We always have a good time here, because of the good atmosphere. The place does what is says on the can, it has all the elements for a relaxing environment, without poncing it up. The date cake is too die for. LIterally!”

The Water Margin at the O2, Greenwich (Restaurant)
“I went in with my family on Friday and it was amazing. It was the first time in years my family have actually been in stitches, laughing with each other, so Water Margin must have done something right! The food was really tasty and the waitress was very sweet and managed to put up with my brother flirting with her (sorry again to the poor girl!). What started as sub-conscious gluttony turned into a full blown competition between my brothers - 'who could eat the most'! It was hilarious because they genuinely didn't want to stop eating and if they could have taken a doggy bag they would have! We all really enjoyed it and might even make it a frequent family spot!”

“Went with friends at the weekend mainly for the cocktails and live music, but we ate too and had a decent, fresh and inexpensive meal - tuna cake starters were good, but the sirloin and sesame tuna mains we had were great. Ropa Vieja Cuban hash was a bit heavy, but solid food - service was good, tho' the place was busy, the cocktails were the best i've had and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Really good night out.”

The Oval Lounge, Vauxhall & Oval (Bar / Restaurant)
“We went here with my son and wife and her in-laws from Greece. Atmosphere was good with muted (but not dim) lighting and low music volume and staff were attentive. Got a mix of starters with a houmous/salsa and pitta plate, warm bread baskets with oil and balsamic vinegar, halloumi coated in a lovely crumb, and spicy parmesan fritters. Mains ranged from steak and chips to an elegant scallop dish with courgette and carrot pasta/strips in vanilla butter, very delicate and scallops well cooked, although the vanilla butter may be something of an aquired taste. The father-in-law who is an incredibly fussy eater was happy with plain chargrilled chicken and chips, (a chicken burger without the bun!). Topped off with creme brulees and mango tiramisu it was a very good meal...Wine list has a good region and price range, definitely the best place in the area for dinner.”

“Champaigne tasting event on 21st Jan 2010. I had an awful experience with a manager who has never heard of customer service. turned up without a voucher and he had a strong intention to send me home because if I didn't have the proof I paid. He said, without a voucher, there is a chance i hadn't paid (eventho my name was on this guest list) = shocking. asked to talk to his boss, said he didn't have one. asked for his full name to which he said he didn't have any. then 'he learned' that 'the owner' of the place is here and he approved letting me in. once got in quite dissapointing. the place is a bit soulless. a big plazma screen on the wall running images of a view of lonon. why? bizzare. lights bad and the place generally looking clinical. great views but you wouldn't stay there for a drink really - so many exciting places to go to down there.”
