Brixton Bar & Grill 15 Atlantic Road, Brixton, London, SW9 8HX (Map)

Finally a bit of laid back class in Brixton! Plan B''s all well and good but if you want a great atmosphere and somewhere to chill i can''t recommend this place enough. Bit pricey for things like GNT... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“A very upmarket bar, quiet small but seems alrite to start the nite off in. I went with about 5 mates bought a round of 6 bottles of "Sol" lager cost me over £25 quid, so we stuck to the vodka shots. The upside was there is alot of talent in there and the crowd seem a bit older and more mature.”

“I went to this restaurant under a recommendation from a friend and was very upset by the end of the night. We received appalling service and our drinks order was wrong THREE times. After getting the wrong cocktails off a waiter who had obviously been out all weekend, we decided on a bottle of wine, only to discover that it was to be left in an ice bucket on the bar. Our glasses were hap hazourdly re-filled with the wrong wine!! Food was not really as described on the menu, microwaved and definitely over priced for what it was. Will definitely not be visiting again.”

“Ahh, the old Sloany Pony! A fave for the Parsons Green/Fulham crowd, especially for a long, lazy, boozy Sunday lunch! The food is wonderful and good value for money, but the drinks are very overpriced (£5.25 for a glass of Chenin Blanc!) but when you''re chilled out on the sofas or out in the beer "patio" you almost forget. (Yep, the teenage Sloanes do get on your nerves but you can easily ignore them!)”

Barrio Cocktail Bar & Cafe, Battersea (Bar)
“I stumbled across Barrio when I moved to Battersea, and now I won't go anywhere else. The location is fabulous - more Chelsea than anywhere else, with outdoor seating, perfect for the last few weeks of summer. The staff are lovely - they are quick to recognise you, and take care of you when you are there. And finally the cocktails are divine - I am not much of a tequila drinker but their margharitas are the best I have had in london - they don't skimp on the tequila or the lemon, so they have a definitive kick about them. The music is funky, the crowd are trendy. I am moving away from Battersea now but I will continue to go back to Barrio, its the best cocktail bar I have found in London so far.”

“I''ve never been anywhere before where the landlord (small man in burtons suit with a point to proove) has a whinge at you for playing pool until I visited The Duke of Cornwall with some friends. Soured my opinion of this place”

The Railway, Barnes & Sheen (Bar)
“Since the last review, The Railway Tavern has received its long awaited overhaul. The results are an improvement but not spectacular. The pub has been refitted in the gastro-pub stylee. It is run by some 60''s mod throwback who thinks he is running the most happening bar in town. If you consider a coal-affect fireplace and overpriced dining with Sheens''s middle agers is your bag, then join him.”

“Don''t bother with the food because they don''t. This is a pub to drink in, at the prices they charge and with the reputation it has built, they don''t have to bother with cooking. The Plough is a classic ''pub'' pub. Brian, the govenor has a policy of hiring double-fit barmaids, hence I''ve been drinking here for years. Lovely in the summer and no crap music. Good for dates, if you can keep your eyes on the girl you have taken.”

Freud, West End (Bar)
“Wicked little bar which benefits from the fact that there''s only a small chalkboard at the top of the steps to advertise it''s existence. It''s the kind of place you only find out about through word-of-mouth. The interior is scruffily basic (in a good way), the lighting suitably dim, and the clientele laidback with a good mix of nationalities in there. It gives it a continental feel...you forget you''re in London. Which is nice when you''ve been grafting all week. It''s also one of the only bars in the Capital I''ve been to where you can strike up a conversation with strangers without getting a funny look. I can''t reccommend this place enough.”

“Could have been a fabulous place-great music and decor- overshadowed by giggling cocktail barmen struggling to serve a mature and sophisticated clientele. So very average, so chapel market.”

“A gastro pub if ever I saw one. Pricey, but you get what you pay for, the food is fantastic. Rumour has it that plenty of Chiswick based celebs visit.”

“Don''t bother going here. There are better places. This was my first experience and probably my last. Music was average (indifferent ramblings by a jazz duo over standards - the kind of jazz that makes a lot of people hate this music which is a shame.) I was somehow expecting more than this, maybe even a whole band (now there''s a novelty). The "venue" is a public bar with no atmosphere. Information supplied by the venue said, "book a table". So we did. Got there, and the barmaid had no idea what we were talking about. So we just sat at the back and left afer we''d finished our (regretfully alreay paid for) drinks. Won''t be coming back. One more thing. Please don''t put "book a table" on your lealets if you have no intention operating a system like this. You should have put. "Come in, find a seat - we have a Jazz duo most nights", Puts a slightly different slant on it. I shall stop here as I''m getting more and more pissed off the more I think about it. By the way, I know what I''m talking about - I''m a musician. Sorry folks. I expected better.”

“I think the review above must have been submitted by the owners.... I''ve never actually been into this restaurant but I do walk past it every day and given I see the food sitting under hotlamps next to empty tables. Would you blame me ?”

“I heard the advert on Jazz FM about this bar, so I thought I would give it a go. A lively place, the cocktails were delicious and it was full of women. I am not sure if it is like that all the time, but I am going again.”

“I went to the Jazz cafe and was extremly dissapointed. The food was all very spicey and was very average. We ate upstairs in the balcony to say it was hot is an understatement. paying £15 to get in and then a further £15.50 for a very dissapointing meal to find I was eating in a sauna was not what I was expecting. I would expect this from a back street club when paying only £3.00 entrance. Where is the air conditioning? I am sure there arelaws on how hot somewhere can be. On asking for the bill I got prsented with a bill for £200 as me and my three other friend had already paid for the somewhat overpriced entrance and food this was a bit of a shock. I do wonder if they try to charge people twice on there departure hoping they have had too much to drink and not actually bothering to check there bill. When queried it was reduce to a much lower figure. Then finally I will speak about the the toilets. Bus station toilets would look grand compare to the toilet at The Jazz Cafe. For a venue which holds I think 390 there was only two toliets which were both filthy no toilet roll and do look like they have had been painted for 20 years.”

"Very rude management. Asked to leave the table when there were no queues. Then the manager was very arrogant and told us that if we wanted to leave a negative review we could do so. Poor customer service..." Which venue is this?
