The Baring 55 Baring Street, Old Street, Shoreditch, London, N1 3DS (Map)

This great little bar is impossible to find without assistance, in fact we found it by accident with the help of a guy in a local shop. The interior is fab, very funky and fresh with an awesome open fire... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

“The Bedford provides a consistently good night out. A fact that is evidenced by the large catchment area that it draws its crowd from. Recently visited again for the Banana Cabaret on a Friday eve for my 30th Birthday. Comics were excellent and the Monkeyfunk D.J.s afterwards provided ample entertainment for an up for it crowd. Negative points well if you have to, rather grubby toilets and Bar prices that go up after 11pm. Overall a great night out in South London. Oh almost forgot I love their chunky chips ENJOY !!”

“I've eaten here several times, the rib-eye burger is probably the best burger I've ever eaten - would definately recommend it. The staff are friendly as is the atmosphere. The prices are typical west end prices.”

The Falcon, Clapham (Bar)
“I have been to the Falcon on a few occasions, It’s a great little pub but seem to have no atmosphere, It takes about three weeks to get drink and I don’t think the bar staff know how to use their measures, watch them for a minute and they seem to take great pride in under pouring every time. I had an ok day out in the beer garden but once again there was a severe lack of atmosphere, some music would be nice. It is a nice little pub but I wouldn’t go there if you were after a big day of drinking and being merry, you will spend most of your day at the bar waiting to get served, there is too many other bars and pubs in the area to settle for second best.”

Loungelover, Shoreditch (Bar)
“I dropped into Loungelover at 11pm on a Friday night, dropped my sack of bagels off at the accomodating reception and headed for the Bar, as one does. The floor staff looked at me as if my head was on backwards. The oh-so-macho barmen took my arrival in better stride and mixed me up a couple of cocktails. They didn't know how to mix a treacle so I talked one of them through it and he made a fine fist of it, my daiquiri follow-up was a touch sour for my palette. Now I don't know about you but I'm normally happy enough pottering into a bar solo and having a chat with the bar if it isn't too busy. The guys behind the counter were affable enough, but I had no-where to sit and had to pay service (!) on my two cocktails, taking them over the tenner each. Ouch. Scanning the place, everyone was seated, very well-behaved, and intent on looking hip, without adding much to a self-concious, rather studiously cool atmosphere. Having said all that, it would make an impressive venue for a blind-date, because it looks great and there's plenty to look at. With the right people in tow, I'd be prepared to have another go at this place.”

“this place is terribly overpriced... you have to book your seats here, a bit of a queue to get in while the were checking all the party guests in. We had a leather clad booth that kind of resembled a padded cell that we had to step into. The table service assistant had no customer service patience at all - slamming down change trays on the table and eyes rolling when one of our party of 12 wanted another drink - no tips for her then - apart from maybe get another job love! Other then that - not a bad venue to drink a glass of wine at an over inflated price... great toilets those - best part of the place - having a wee was like an alice in wonderland moment....”

The Old Crown Public House, Bloomsbury (Bar)
“The Old Crown has great atmosphere especial on Friday were the bar turns in to a “Cotteye Ugly” style with shooter girls and dancing on the bar and window sill. During the day the food is very good selection and quality. The Reviewer Sebastian Lander has not been to the bar for a while because it does now serve Jack Daniels! ”

“This is a bit out of the way - but well worth the trip. The food is among the best I've had in London and the service was excellent. Really liked the decor too - light airy and a bit ott but in good humour. Highly recommended.”

Egg London, Kings Cross (Bar / Club)
“My first experience at Egg was when i had the flu (sorry) but it was a pal's birthday. Not only did Egg make me feel better but it was the best night ever! The venue is amazing especially with the outdoor kinda like a mini club space in Ibiza! The people are grande and i love the music! The only thing is it does get a bit too packed. Thank you God for finally giving us somewhere decent and trendy to go to after 6am!”

Ted's Place, Chelsea (Bar)
“Thursday nights at Ted's Place (for Trannies/ transsexuals and admirers) are legendary and good fun. It is difficult to imagine something comparable in terms of slease but also down market individual character. The admission price has been raised to £3 from £2, hardly an amount which breaks the bank. Non-stop music, and sex in the toilets. What more could you ask for?”

Agenda, City of London (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“As a friday night venue Agenda is top notch. I'll agree with other people that the bouncers are unfriendly, and when you do go in jeans, sometimes they will be harsh (because everyone else in the club is in a suit). Still, everytime I have been there I have been lucky with the ladies, the music is good stuff, the women are always stunning (well, the ones i get hold of anyway), and the bar itself is quite big. Most of the time it is free to get in. Would I recommend this place? Definitely. Go!”

“I visited the North Pole on fri for their much acclaimed "frank sinatra" tribute show and must confess it was superb! the food was cellent as was the service and the singer was brilliant. We headed down to the bar for cocktails after and the signature "Rat Pack Manhattan" was gorgeous. This is now my regular.”

Picture of The Clapham North, Clapham, London

The Clapham North, Clapham (Bar)
“Good atmosphere in the North; nice lighting and decor; if you can reserve one of the booths or comfy leather couches even better! The food is good, but unfortunately you get shortchanged on your spirits! Probably better off sticking to beer. Music is pretty good funky house, but there's no room for dancing. On the upside, it's open to 2am at the weekends.”

The Calf, Clapham (Bar)
“Great bar! Very accessible from either Clapham Junction/Common/North/South. Yummy food, good drinks - although does take forever to get served on a Thur/Fri/Sat night. Young, trendy, up for it punters! The Calf is a definite if you want a good night out in Clapham, without the pretentiousness of some of the other bars in the area.”
