“Probably one of the best cafes in London, if you like good music, drinks and people.. I like this cafe as it's not just another boring style cafe full of mannequins. We always have a good time here, because... More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

The Water Margin at the O2, Greenwich (Restaurant)
“I went in with my family on Friday and it was amazing. It was the first time in years my family have actually been in stitches, laughing with each other, so Water Margin must have done something right! The food was really tasty and the waitress was very sweet and managed to put up with my brother flirting with her (sorry again to the poor girl!). What started as sub-conscious gluttony turned into a full blown competition between my brothers - 'who could eat the most'! It was hilarious because they genuinely didn't want to stop eating and if they could have taken a doggy bag they would have! We all really enjoyed it and might even make it a frequent family spot!”

“Went with friends at the weekend mainly for the cocktails and live music, but we ate too and had a decent, fresh and inexpensive meal - tuna cake starters were good, but the sirloin and sesame tuna mains we had were great. Ropa Vieja Cuban hash was a bit heavy, but solid food - service was good, tho' the place was busy, the cocktails were the best i've had and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Really good night out.”

“We went here with my son and wife and her in-laws from Greece. Atmosphere was good with muted (but not dim) lighting and low music volume and staff were attentive. Got a mix of starters with a houmous/salsa and pitta plate, warm bread baskets with oil and balsamic vinegar, halloumi coated in a lovely crumb, and spicy parmesan fritters. Mains ranged from steak and chips to an elegant scallop dish with courgette and carrot pasta/strips in vanilla butter, very delicate and scallops well cooked, although the vanilla butter may be something of an aquired taste. The father-in-law who is an incredibly fussy eater was happy with plain chargrilled chicken and chips, (a chicken burger without the bun!). Topped off with creme brulees and mango tiramisu it was a very good meal...Wine list has a good region and price range, definitely the best place in the area for dinner.”

“Champaigne tasting event on 21st Jan 2010. I had an awful experience with a manager who has never heard of customer service. turned up without a voucher and he had a strong intention to send me home because if I didn't have the proof I paid. He said, without a voucher, there is a chance i hadn't paid (eventho my name was on this guest list) = shocking. asked to talk to his boss, said he didn't have one. asked for his full name to which he said he didn't have any. then 'he learned' that 'the owner' of the place is here and he approved letting me in. once got in quite dissapointing. the place is a bit soulless. a big plazma screen on the wall running images of a view of lonon. why? bizzare. lights bad and the place generally looking clinical. great views but you wouldn't stay there for a drink really - so many exciting places to go to down there.”

The Barracuda, Ealing (Bar / Club)
“Me and a few of my mates heard that this place had recently been taken over by new young management and thought we'd check it out. We have since been coming here every Tuesday and Friday nights. The atmosphere is excellent, everyone out to have a good time and there's always different DJ's so the music is good, i mean they had Mighty Mo from Heartless crew here on Xmas eve! Drinks are very reasonable and cheaper than the other clubs nearby. Drinks promotions such as buy 1 get 1 free until 11:30pm and various £2 drink offers all night definitley make this place value for money. I mean some of these prices are cheaper than bars/pubs during the day let alone for a night club. Open till 4am and bar serving till later than any other place in Ealing that i know of means you can party for longer getting more for your money. I use to go to Priory but since this place has re-opened and for as long as the new management keep doing what they are i'll pick Barracuda over any other night club in Ealing.”

“Loads of room between the tables at this restaurant so it makes for quite an intimate affair, but not so much that you feel removed from the buzz. The steak was amazing and the banana split was a sight to behold. Very good wine list too. A tad expensive but a bit of class in west London”

“A big venue that was busy on a Friday night when visited before Christmas. Girls are numerous, friendly and good looking. Podiums are great fun and seats at the top in front of the bar are perfect for viewing. Private dance is worth a punt at £20 and the girls get naked! Recommend if you're in the West End although not sure what it would be like if less people in there - may feel very empty.”

“Meal mediocre and not that good quality for the price and also the drinks expensive. I have now been to this establishment twice the first time on a Sunday evening which I have to say was fine. Unfortunately we visited last Friday and they had trouble in their club downstairs and the only access out of the Brickyard is through the restaurant/bar. A guy who was causing trouble was lead through the restaurant by a violent bouncer. Maybe they should consider another exit out of the club or failing that be a bit more selective in who they let in the venue. We spent a lot of money that evening as you can imagine with the meal and drinks so didn't expect such a situation to arise. I found the way the situation was handled very unprofessional.”

Fego Caffe, Maida Vale & St Johns Wood (Restaurant)
“I had reserved a table at Fego for Sunday brunch. I had booked for four persons, however, we had a last minute addition (my partner who came off a night-shift at Guys and St Thomas Hospital). The restaurant was busy but our table would easily have coped with an extra chair at the table. Not according to the manager unfortunately. He made it very clear that this was against the company's policy and that he could not accommodate an extra person. There are two ways to pass on this kind of message to a customer: 1) I am terribly sorry sir, however, we are just unable to accommodate you just now, however, if you can wait perhaps fifteen minutes, we can reshuffle some tables and get you guys seated. 2) You should have booked for five when you called up originally. There is nothing I can do at all. The manager of Fego Caffe had opted for the second approach. I was flabbergasted. It would not have taken a rocket scientist to work out that one more chair at a a table was not going to ruin his breakfast sitting. I tried to reason with the manager however, as my blood began to boil somewhat it became apparent that I was either trying to rationalise with the irrational or Fego takes the view that St Johns Wood's generalised reputation for snobbery is an appropriate platform for a rude reaction from the manager if a potential customer makes a request for anything other than what he had originally asked for. In these times of austerity, I would suggest that people support the more customer-friendly foodie places on the High Street (Maison Blanc, Cafe Josephine) rather than pay money to a company that is unwilling to show even an iota of goodwill or understanding to the very people who keep it in business. I cannot comment on the standard of food, however, if it equates to Fego's level of customer service, I don't suspect it will be up to much.”

“I had a really good night with my boyfriend and wanted to finish it off by having a cocktail. Saw this place walking around so ventured in... The place was full and brimming with energy and the bartenders were a loud bunch acting up, tossing cocktails, throwing ice around and chatting with their mates. I thought what an amazing place...then after waiting 15 minutes of being overlooked for people behind me even though I was directly in front of the bar...at the bar I finally made my order for a "Frozen Strawberry Bellini" and a "Whisky Sour".... I finally got my drink after he mistakenly placed it in front of not one but two of his mates before I shouted out "over here" I stupidly tipped him but hey I work in a similar field and so I always tip... wish I didn't because the "cocktails" were absolutely foul... my "Bellini" tasted like cheap strawberry cordial mixed with beer/flat prosecco...my boyfriends "whisky sour" tasted like some vaguely alcoholic cheap soft-drink... I tried to drink more than 4 sips but felt sick. We returned our unfinished drinks straight to the bar and walked straight out... trying to get the rancid taste out of our mouths with chewing gum....never again. I can see why people go there if they are regulars who know the bartenders... but as a newbie with taste-buds looking for a nice cocktail...to be blunt...it's nauseating. Avoid.”
