Edinboro Castle, Camden (Bar)
“This pub has a good range of beers, decent food and a nice sized beer garden, making it potentially one of the best pubs in the area. This is shown by the large crowds who reflect the continuing yuppification of Camden - this is one of the few pubs in the area where you see pin stripes and well gelled bankers hair. Unfortunately this is also one of the worst managed pubs ever encountered. The bar staff are incredibly slovenly and would all be fired after the first night in any other pub. It is seriously not uncommon to remain unserved after half an hour, while the barmaid stares vacantly at the till for 2-3 minutes, or chats on her cell phone at the end of the bar. This is one of the few times I've been in a bar in this country and honestly wished they'd hire some foreign staff, and at the very least someone who's been taught to pour a beer. Even two at once - oh such daring.”

The Castle, Battersea (Bar)
“My absolute favourite pub in Battersea, or maybe even London! Charles and Mark, the landlords, are so friendly and make the place feel like a second home. Dean and the other bar staff always give me a huge welcome, and the service is second to none. One of those rare places that as a female, I would feel happy going to by myself - you can sit and watch the other punters, or equally make new friends. The clients are friendly, funny and big drinkers. This pub errs on the side of not being too wanky, and has a mix of locals and newbies. We have friends who live North of the River who rate the Castle as their favourite in London - high praise indeed. And for you smokers - the outside area is huge and undercover. Charles kindly puts the heaters on when it gets a bit chilly (yes, I know it's not good for our carbon footprint blah blah etc etc but I'll probably be dead from liver failure or lung cancer to worry about the future too much). Just the best!!”

“I love this restaurant, so chic, and the staff are really nice. A great ambience, food delicous and right in the centre of Theatreland. We saw Sienna Miller in here eating for England, how does she stay so thin?”

“This summer I have spent many a weekend driving round SE England in search of the perfect ploughman's lunch. Being frank I've been disappointed with every offering delivered up from the country pub kitchens visited thus far. So imagine my surprise when, just minutes from where I work in central London, the most awesome example of this dining delight arrived at my table. The Chandos' ploughman's rocks for being just £5.50, coming with a mountain of cheese and pickle, fresh warm bread, an healthy side salad, an apple and perhaps the world's largest pickle onion. Hats off to all those involved! This venue is now officially my new home from home! For the record my partners cheese and basil baguette with chips was superb - as too were all the dishes around us that were being eagerly devoured. The Chandos was until recently a dark and smokey affair - now it is a fine alternative to the overpriced sandwich shops and dirty fast food joints.”

“Definitely a place for celeb spotting. Pretty relaxed laid back watering hole it has to be said. Dare I say dreary. We spied a few famous mugs around the place. This joint is definitely the place to wear an understated Collete Dinigan dress, cocktail in hand and if the smoking ban not in place a ciggie holder hanging from your mouth. Classy but understated.”

“I cannot understand the attitude of some people when they suggest that this pub has no ambience and no service. I found the access to the Sun Inn as a wheelchair user very good, the service I received was excellent and cannot fault. The food is tasty and I shall be returning. The only critisism I have is the access for wheelchair users to the lower garden is non exsistant.”

Mango Lounge, Kensington (Bar / Club)
“Hi held my wife's 30th birthday here. All I can say it was the best venue we found when considering price, friendliness of staff and atmosphere. Oli, the owner helped convince us and I must admit at first I was a little concerned he was promising far too much. The guy actually bent backwards to make sure we had a great party. Happy hour was cancelled due to council regulations, so to make up for it he gave my guests free champaigne cocktals. He provided nibbles for free (chips with dips and chicken). When I say he provided, I mean he didn't even charge us for them. The DJ was friendly and even let me use the Mic to make announcements to my guests. We had such a great time that people said it was the best party they had been to. I strongly recommend it. We had seen other venues and they were often saying they wanted minimum spends of £1500, in other words anything less and we'd have to make up the difference. That could have turned out expensive especially since we weren't really sure how many people were going to turn up on the actual night. Well Oli didn't charge us anything. He actually gave us the venue exclusively until 11pm, until which some friendly locals added to the atmosphere. The drinks were very reasonably priced for a cocktail bar. I liked the owner (Oli) so much we swapped numbers and remain in contact to his day. He's a very likable chap and his friendly nature is reflected in his staff's attitudes. In short, an excellent venue, I strongly reco”

Assaggi, Notting Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“This neighbourhood restaurant serves traditional Italian food for which people come back in droves. In Italy it would be inconsequential or simply "correct" as the French would say. The welcome is however special with the Maitre D taking time to explain every course with enthusiam and gusto. The prices are high but worth paying for a consistently decent meal.”

Baroque, Ealing (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“I booked a table for 10 people on friday for saturday at 7.30, unfortunately half my guests were an hour late however there still 2 empty tables so its not like the place is that popular. The mid thirties blond and highly strung female in charge of the restaurant became very rude and sarcastic when I informed her of my guests delay, firstly asking whether I actually told my guests of the time and then remarking that obviously they did not wear watches. She threatened to charge me for unused seats which is a complete joke as a threat and also threatened to cancel which I politely accepted. Neither my guests or myself will ever go there again and that night we spent over £300. Its funny how a couple of years ago we used to go there for the exceptional cocktails and really friendly staff almost every saturday. Its dying a slow death and unfortunately this member of staff is the cancer. By the way I used to manage clubs and cocktail bars in the west end for 15 years and I never saw or experienced such a smelly attitude to customers who could have easily walked out before spending any money. Maybe afew years ago she could use her blue eyes and her blond to charm drunk morons, not any longer dear.”

“I was totally surprised to find these "opinions" about one of my favourite bars in London. The way you fit in the crowd, or whether you are bothered at all with the people around you that do not SEEM to agree with you, shouldn't nevertheless change the fact that the food and drinks in Zigfrid are rather good not to say exactly for my taste. Yes, in life there are some people that take my appetite away but let's face it - life is a zoo in a jungle and there's no need to be a "social racist", right? Getting into this was actually not necessary at all as I have never seen a majority of Essex boys and West End media girls in Zigfrid or I just don't know how one looks like or perhaps I am one of them myself... phhh, I sincerely hope no one is missing Zigfrid because of what the previous guys (or even me) wrote as this place has a lot to offer (too).”

“I visited this restaurant recently, whilst staying with relatives in Pimlico. Beautiful food, ambience and the drink flowed well. A bit pricey but well worth it. Mr Turner knows his stuff. Then again this is what you would expect of Mayfair. The staff were attentive friendly and certainly did not bear the hallmarks of some of the stuffy regimented enclaves of Mayfair. Top Notch!”

The Famous Cock Tavern, Angel & Islington (Bar)
“God what a nightmare. Came here to meet friends. In a tizz as I thought I had got the wrong place. Waited 15 minutes before I was served, by the rudest, chav looking barmaid, with an ability to freeze lukewarm water at 50 paces. When I ordered a drink she looked like the front of a toilet door. VACANT!!!!!! Shan`t be going again. Get your act together or get out of Islington!”

“Lovely grub, people slightly pretentious. Then what would you expect from the Hampstead Hillbilly set. Ha Ha. Its like the OC in here only cloudier. Did you know the late Ruth Elliss used to come here with David Blakely. She was the last woman to be hung in Britain, and he was her paramour. Tsk Tsk.”
