We walked out without tipping the awful waitress we had. The service was awful. Waitress had no idea what she was doing. More Atmosphere: Value: Quality:

The Triangle Bar & Restaurant, Finsbury Park (Bar / Restaurant)
“Why is the Triangle one of my favourite restaurants? Because when I go out for a meal, I like to eat food that is imaginative, interesting – and, of course, tasty. What I particularly like about the menus is that they are not tied to any specific theme or nationality; each dish seems to have been carefully and individually thought out so that the style of cooking, herbs, spices and accompaniments have been used to bring the best out in the ingredients. My last meal there, for example, I would imagine zigzagged across the globe in terms of origin – crispy spring rolls with chilli dip, goat curry with mango rice, the famous Triangle Baileys cheesecake, accompanied by a New World wine and Chinese beer. Because I can meet friends for Sunday breakfast at 11 am – and the Triangle’s Moroccan version of a full English breakfast has to be tried to be believed! Then, if the weather is nice, we can go for a walk in Alexandra Park, or go blackberry picking; if it’s miserable, or we haven’t yet run out of conversation, we can stay on, maybe having a dessert and/or light starter with a glass or two of wine. Because of the extra touches, often of his own invention, that Aziz introduces into his dishes; for example: water melon in the stir-fried noodles, parsnip crisp garnish, mushrooms marinaded before cooking so they taste "like mushrooms used to taste"; the delicate long strips of salted cucumber.”

“My brother recommended the restaurant (Upper Street) after dinning there with his mates a few weeks back. I read most of the reviews I could find before booking a table for 9 people last Saturday (15th Dec) - I was a little bit apprehensive. Anyway we had a mixed bunch of adults and children and we all had a nice time. Half of our group was at least 1 hour - 2 hours late (African Time!!!!) so we stayed there for about 4 hours in total. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. The food was varied (buffet area) but I did not sample enough to pass a balanced judgement. The meats were very good/good and they kept it coming even though some of us were very late in arriving, they fed us continuously for 4 hours. The drinks like previously mentioned by other reviewers were overpriced for a glass packed with ice and a dash of pop, also maybe the £20 charge should include seafood (wings, sausages and drummers don’t cost that much surely??). Anyway I enjoyed myself and so did the others, the ham and lamb shank were tasty, so was the garlic beef. The children loved their dessert but I guess kids are easily pleased with a couple of scopes of ice cream and wafer stuck in.... I will go back there again. I need to say though - maybe people should mark clearly which Rodizio Rico they went to and what time. We arrived between 2-4pm so it was not that busy so we didn’t have to wait for more meat or get extra drinks in. The place was not that busy as it was in between lu”

Brixton Bar & Grill, Brixton (Bar)
“BBAG is a very cool place to hang out if you’re cool enough to handle the laidback pace and 'make the place your own' approach of the management and staff. The staff have a respectfully stand off ‘Mi casa es su casa’ vibe about them which is just perfect after a hard day at work the last thing you need is someone else’s staff hounding you. I've always felt relaxed and at home down there. The Tapas is a perfect way to chill and have a few nibbles either while waiting for the generous main courses with friends or just something to get your teeth into while waiting for friends to arrive. I never visited the BBAG before the new management took over in 2006. This should be noted and makes all previous revues prior to this date null and void. The food is alchemy of local produce from local suppliers. The selection of continental lagers whispers of a quite refinement of choice and the Cocktails are made in a truly slow and deliberate manner by caring professional Cocktail makers and shakers. The music selection in the front comes courtesy of the music professional DJ/proprietor and in the back, more private area, DJ’s are provided by a mixture of private party goers and the proprietors DJ friends. Who could ask for more from the infamously creative music scene of Brixton? ”

“Frankly, this pub sums up everything thats going wrong with Youngs pubs. Full of braying rugger buggers, despite no rugby being shown. The view is great, but I think that adds about 30% to the price of the food, which is nothing more than average gastro-fare. ”

“I have to say that I was very shocked last night when attending Barrafina in Soho. My partner and I sat in the window area near the end wall next to two people furiously completing paperwork. It took several minutes to figure out that both of them were members of staff and several more minutes to figure out that they were retrospectively completing the fridge temperature monitoring charts. I actually sat there and saw them complete the whole of Octobers chart before they cottoned on to the fact that they had an audience. They weren't embarrassed (as they should be) but were brazen in the fact that they said to me, "We didn't have time!". What sort of establishment was I eating in?”

Bertie's Bar, Wimbledon (Bar)
“When I met my friend I was suprised as she led me towards the Prince of Wales opposite the train station, only to be led down stairs to Berties, I had never even noticed this bar! Nicely laid out with a mix of big comfy sofas perfect for curling up on and enjoying a drink and banquet seating. The drinks were cheap and the bar staff friendly. Only one fault was the airconditioning.... way too cold for aircon in Mid December..... crank up the heating when the bar is a bit quieter, and it would be the perfect place for a cosy drink.”

“We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening for my husband's birthday. There was nothing wrong to say about the upstairs service; the food was great, the staff very helpful and quick to serve. However a very different picture at the downstairs part which becomes a night club at weekends. One of us had mistakingly touched one of the ornaments and was thrown out of the place by a rather angry and pathetic bouncer. The 15 of us (who spent over £600 that night) will definitely never visit that place again, which is a pity but I would argue that however nice the restaurant is, it can be a rather dangerous place!”

Picture of Jazz After Dark, Soho, London

Jazz After Dark, Soho (Bar / Restaurant)
“Went to jazz after Dark on Wednesday night to celebrate my girlfriends birthday, we were a group of ten so we booked in advance to get a table in the music area. It is a lovely cool place with a great selection of tapas and an amusing cocktail list. They had a house band playing, a New Orleans jazz vocalist with pianist, bass and sax they were very entertaining. Suddenly to our amazement in walked Amy Winehouse with a group of friends – she is really lovely she chatted happily with everybody. They ordered jugs of cocktails and tapas just like us – to our joy the house band invited her up to sing. She sang two songs and she left the crowd overwhelmed. We are all huge Amy fans and to see her in the flesh and to speak to her is a real thrill. We all agree she is a gem and a true artist, not only that she is also so nice and down to earth. This was certainly the best Birthday my girlfriend ever had. Greek street was awash with onlookers and about 20 paparizze trying to catch a glimpse of Amy. Next day it was the talk of the town with headlines “Amy has secret gig in Soho jazz club” the Mirror was the only newspaper kind to Amy the rest of them just wanted to slag her off (very strange). We are so happy that we choose Jazz after Dark on the right night by the way admission is only £5 on Wednesday. Where else can you find a lovely venue for such good value?”

Geeta, Kilburn (Restaurant)
“Went out for an Indian, assumed that food would be good due to local competition, severely let down. Ordered Kofta curry expecting some a lovely lamb kofta kebab in a indian curry sauce, was shocked to recieve processed meatballs looking identical to the Ikea meatballs we eat from time to time. We also ordered a Lamb Tikka Masala. This was nice an spicy (as requested) but it wasn't lamb tikka and the masala sauce was not a thick creamy sauce as I've come to expect. The only plus point, the rice was seasoned and flavoured well with Cinamon and cardamon. Very dissapointed, would avoid and take a slightly longer walk and spend a little more at Ruchi on Kingsgate Road, been there a couple of times and never dissapointed.”

“Great neighbourhood restaurant but even if you have to travel a long way I very much doubt that you would be disappointed. Warm welcome and wonderful hearty, nourishing food. The co-owners Walter and Pascal are great hosts and I would be happy to treat the restaurant as my twice daily dining room. If only I could!”
