“Smug. Bland. And ridiculous. I went here for a friend's birthday on Friday and one of our party had baked a special birthday cake. But when they tried to bring it into the pub, they were barred. The reason was that as an organic pub, no non-organic food could be consumed on the premises (due to their organic certification). We countered that saying the cake hadn't been made in the pub kitchens, hadn't been sold by the pub and that their kitchen was closed anyway. But no. We then asked if we could at least cut the cake and sing happy birthday inside. But again no, non-organic food could not be cut or sung over on the premises. In the end, we had to go outside and serve the cake in the freezing cold and rain. Nice. Otherwise, the service was surly, the food overpriced, the atmosphere ordinary and the cider terrible. If you want a good pub that serves organic ales, go to the Charles Lamb down the road.”

“I don't know whan you were in the pub, but I drink in in here for 2-3 days every month and the beer is good, the staff are great and the atmosphere is fine. I presume that the previous reviewer is one of those those poncy idiots who reads the Guardian reviews and thinks they are accurate. I've been drinking in bars since I was 15 (now aged 48), I've also ran bars myself, and the "Friend" is a good place.”

“I hate Halloween nights out so when my friend asked to go to her party on Halloween I used every excuse to not go, especially as it was over in Clapham & I live in east London. Anyway I got nagged into it so went, I got there & the place was kicking., like packed, my friend had got a basement room there, they didn’t even charge room hire apparently, and it was packed, on all three floors, it was a real buzz with everyone having a great time, some great costumes too. So I threw myself into the party what a great place, the place has a vibe so contagious that even I will go back again. Everyone drunk on beers and cocktails and not one fight, even the staffs are friendly & helpful, if only we had bar social where I live.”

“I love this place! It has an atmosphere unlike any other bar in London; completely unpretentious, killer music - so good NOT to have to listen to the same old generic, boring, background, clubby house music that you hear in 99% of London's cocktail bars. Talking of cocktails - they're also killer! The menu is a bible and happy hour is just the best way to start off the night. Also recommended (although deadly if you have work the next day) are Sunday's where it's 2-4-1 all night long! The only thing I would say is that you will have to wait in happy hour but it's worth it - you're getting free drinks and you can see that the staff are working so hard to serve you as quick as possible. I would recommend this place but I would really like to keep it a secret for myself!”

“The Bloomsbury Ballrooom is one of the most diappointing venues I have ever had the displeasure of frequenting. The booze is really expensive. I don't mind spending a bit of money on a decent drink but I take exception to spending a fortune on cheap down-town rubbish. The decor is gross. I have no idea who Shaun Clarkson is but he seriously needs his head checking. Shame. this venue had real potential. My grandma told me about when she worked for the liverpool victoria back in the day and how wonderful the ballroom was at victoria house. Maybe the people who decided to give this place a face-lift should have concentrated more on revitalising what was already beautiful, rather than getting lost in an ego frenzy and trying too hard in making a disastrous hotch-potch of a project that never was.”

Marlborough, Richmond & Kew (Bar)
“Despite offering an impressive level of service and exceptionally good quality pub restaurant menu during the first 2 weeks of reopening, the level /speed of service dramatically declined soon afterwards (an observation not limited to my experience. On more than one occasion complete strangers also waiting for their food have commented to me, frustrated at the time -up to 1hour- it was taking for their food orders to arrive -the poor service is a 'known fact'). The quality of the food (once it finally arrives at your table) nowadays ranges between average and below average. This is a huge shame given how wonderful the general pub atmosphere and amenities are, and how strongly the pub began when they reopened.”

“It seems unbelievable that the world famous Coleherne has closed. Earl's Court was once at the centre of the London gay scene and the place is now a shadow of its former self. Those of us who remember the bar before its refit in 1995 will remember how wonderful it was to visit along with the neighbouring Brompton's Bar also now closed. It seems that a part of London's gay history has gone forever and it is a great shame that this venerable institution has gone.”

“Have heard great things about the hot new club on Fulham Road and decided I would try it out for myself. My girlfriends and I were not disappointed. We had a great night, music was fab and the staff just a breath of fresh air. You must try the Kiwi Cosmo cocktail which is just delish. Smallish venue but great atmosphere.”

“I took my husband out for cocktials on saturday. We started off at the Lobby Bar at One the Aldwych. I wish we had stayed there all night instead of going onto more "trendy" noiser bars. What a fab place for a cocktail. The interior was cool, the bar staff were so professional and friendly. And I don't think that £10 for a cocktail in a 5* hotel is that expensive. There were plenty of places to sit and you could actually here yourself talk as the DJ was playing nice funky tunes, but at a low level. I'll definately be going back. I fab night.”

“Environment and overall design is superb! Drink prices are a bit steep for the poor cocktails that the inept bar staff make, and slowly at that! This brings the star factor down a few notches. Would recommend many other bars before going to this one ever again...”
