My friend and I went here for a special occasion recently and while it was nice, I have to say the vegetable dumplings should be avoided at all costs. They weren't the gyoza-esque bites we were expecting... More

Quo Vadis, Soho (Restaurant / Club)
“While the food was amazing - (i would certainly go back for the crab linguine which was divine and the chocolate fondant which was delish), the service was not. It's a pricey restaurant and for that i expect great food and even greater service. Apart from messing up my friend's main course by bringing the wrong dish out, the waiter decided to clean the table's crumbs straight onto our laps. why he did this we will never know as the restuarant clearly has one of those 'fancy'' crumb sweepers but he did and it annoyed us no end. The crowd is also a little stuffy which is a shame because the food is something i'd want to go back for.”

The Mitre, Notting Hill (Bar / Restaurant)
“What a transformation! Quality from the moment you walk through the door, quite a step up from your average 'gastro pub' (though it bills itself as a British Brasserie). Great food, well kept ales and an interesting wine list. Not cheap but certainly not rip off expensive. Very impressed.”

“Very good value this place, not one to take a client to admittedly however I very much enjoyed my steak fajita, opting for large is something my stomach still punishes me for however!”

Ruby Blue, West End (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“I booked the restaurant for my 30th birthday and got seated in the bar! It was cold as doors were open either end of the bar, high-vis jackets worn by security parading around (not very sophisticated), staff were rude when we asked to be moved into the restaurant (where we had booked a month in advance)! A place to go if you want your night ruined.”

La Ratatouille, Marylebone (Restaurant)
“We just come out of La ratatouille. Funny enough it doesn't figure anywhere on the menu! This place doesn't try very hard to convince you. Everything is simply but executed with laziness same goes for the host who we found to be without any emotion or wish to serve us. The waitress was however very polite but the overall experience lacked the spirit you often come to appreciate when dining in a French bistro. As for the food, we doubt it was executed by french staff at all. Escargot was decent, pork rillette tasty. The salmon au beurre blanc poorly done, salmon almost overdone and the beurre blanc lacking texture. We thought of finishing by testing the creme brulee which was a complete disappointment, overcooked, leaving a split cream and egg mixture. I had to visit the washroom on our way out and it would be fair to say that a little refurbishment is needed. Overall the place was clean but a lot is needed for us to send any guest to La Ratatouille in the near future.”

Bar Soho, Soho (Bar / Club)
“I was at Bar Soho at teh begining of December for a last minute night out. I just want to say the cocktails were amazing and they play music to cater for all. There is a small bar upsatirs that was playing house music and teh main room was play comercial chart tunes. The girls and I have a great night (happy hour is 50% off) drinking wine and cutting some shapes on the dancefloor.
Watch out Bar Soho as we will be back in 2010.”

Hakkasan Hanway Place, Bloomsbury (Bar / Restaurant)
“I took 4 foreign friends last night to Hakkasan. It was also my first time visiting this place. Definitely the last one too. Table for 5 was booked 10 days ago. We arrive at 10.55 expecting to be sat down straight away. But unfortunately our table was not ready so we were taken to the bar. We had to wait until 11.40 to have our table ready. We could not start to eat until 11.55. Almost an hour after we expected. Bill came over £500.00 None of us had wine. All had water. A real rip-off. There are more than a dozen better Chinese Restaurants in London. Truly no recommended. Even if you are just considering to visit this place for the experience. Please note that if you are disable (using a wheel chair) this restaurant does not offer any facilities for accessing to its basement premises. Very bad.”

Fish! Kitchen, Barnes & Sheen (Restaurant)
“A good local addition to the dining roster in the East Sheen and Richmond area with an appealing range of dishes from hearty fish and chips to more exotic choices such as lobster or swordfish. The fish is fresh and artfully presented. Dessert isn’t the best but a modern, clean decor and friendly service make this a worthwhile spot for dinner out.”

Roebuck, Hampstead (Bar)
“Went to the Roebuck with a large group of friends for Christmas lunch. Hugely disappointing. Portions were stingy and the food poorly cooked - verging on inedible. As the food didn't arrive until gone 2pm and we had hungry kids with us, it was too late to send the food back and go somewhere else, so we struggled through, but under different circumstances, i would have walked out.
The veggie option was limp pasta in tomato sauce, the roast beef came out as shriveled rump steak that was tough as old boots. The roast potatoes were covered in black bruises, the carrots and sprouts, i can only assume, were left over from last year. For £10 a head i'd have felt ripped off - but The Roebuck had the cheek to charge us £20 a head for two courses. Disgraceful.
When we spoke to the Manager, our complaints fell on deaf ears. She was unconcerned that we'd had such a bad experience. When we saw people being served huge plates of lovely looking roast beef with yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings (for £11!), she explained that they had ordered off the Sunday lunch menu, but we'd ordered off the Christmas menu, which is provided by Youngs centrally. If we had a problem we should take it up with Youngs. So tough basically (though not as tough as the steak we were served...).
I'm taking it up with Youngs - but thought i'd warn you too. I won't go there again - that's for sure.”

Jewel, West End (Bar / Restaurant / Club)
“Call me superficial, but I love this place, it´s definitely the spot to be seen in Covent Garden!..
Even though I like the decor, service, etc. The best thing for me is 1.- I know that when I´m there, people will not be pushing me all the time (because the place is packed) and 2.-Guys are not going to annoy me more than what it´s necessary, and the ones that do they´re too handsome and sophisticated by general rule for me to get annoyed with hehe....
So ladies, if you would like to meet interesting and beautiful guys, wear your best dresses and meet me here, you´re not going to regrett it.
By the way, I´m also attending their Crystal Ball on NYE, in case anyone would like to join...”

The River Room, Westminster (Bar / Restaurant)
“had my company christmas do here. It was awful. we were crammed in as they had closed of part of the area we had paid for. The area closed off was the seating/chill out area so for 250 people there were 8 seats. Food - most people didn't see any let alone eat anything - drinks fridge ran dry and so they were serving warm beer.
location is great but hospitality was worst I have ever had . Would never go back and would not recommend to any companies out there.”

Quebec, Marylebone (Bar)
“I've been a Quebec regular for about 10 years. I used to live 5 minutes walk from it, and still return to what feels like my local. My straight friends love it, as do the members of my family that have visited. The bar staff are pretty good. The ones that aren't don't survive long. Personally I think that James has got the balance about right. Yes, some of the older guys see everybody under 30 as a rent, but that’s not unique to the Quebec. Personally I feel that the Quebec achieves something none of the other bars do, they don’t set themselves up to be anything other than a traditional bar catering for an older age group. I’ve seen Darren and his colleagues deal extremely diplomatically with people that really are out of order, and I think without exception the bar staff will pour my drink once they know it, without the need to for me to wave a flag or otherwise attract their attention. I've looked in a lot of places to find a bar like the Quebec. It isn’t perfect, but it’s close”
